I'm in shock a little

I just heard some upsetting and sad news. I don't know many details yet but a student at my old high school (my daughter is still at the elementary school there) committed suicide IN SCHOOL yesterday morning! He was a senior and rode the bus with my older kids before we moved.
I don't yet know for sure how he did it but rumor has it he shot himself during class 1st period. I guess if he did use a gun we should just be thankful he didn't use it on others first.
I don't know what else to say really. This is just the first time anything like that has happened in the history of that school. I can't imagine how everyone is going to cope with it.

I don't know where you live but I haven't heard about this on the news, and I should have if it was in the USA.
Could it be the move triggered a deeper depression?

That is horrible and sad! What could be so bad to drive a 17 year old boy to kill himself? It is great news that he didn't use it on the other students first. Did his reasons have to do with a girl or didn't he get into the college of his choice? I will be interested to hear the reason if they ever find it out. What a waste of a young life and all the potential it contained.

That is so sad. But like you said at least he didn't go on a shooting rampage before killing himself.
I don't know if I'd be in shock like I would have been when I were younger had something like this happened at a school I went to. After all, ANYTHING can happen ANYWHERE, so why not this too? :(

It's getting worse...yes...
I still want the best for children and really hope situations like this don't become widespread or the common rule. It'd be very terrible.
Your point is very serious Sacmom, and society, school systems, parents, kids, should all work towards a solution. I can't guarantee success, but if it prevents others from following this horrific event (or even worse events), its WELL worth the attempts.

Oh that is sad. So your older children knew him? How are they taking this shocking news? So far, my children's school hasn't had any shootings and I hope they never will.. But times are changing..:(

I have at least an idea of where you are coming from, and this is me having gone through some of the changing times and real empathy for today's children having to deal with it. I can't even give real comfort either. I want to say it can be better... but I've seen the worst too.

That is so incredibly sad. It scares me when I hear stuff like this. I have 2 kids and I just can't imagine that their life would be traumatic enough that they'd want to kill themselves. It makes me wonder as a parent how to keep my kids from getting to that point. I wonder if he was bullied or had a rough home life? He must have been incredibly troubled and had no one to turn to. So sad.

I can't even begin to imagine what the kids that witnessed him do this to himself is doing through and I feel so bad for those parents. It just makes me think about my son and I hope he never has to witness anything like that. It makes you wonder what was so horrible in his life that would make him want to end it.
When I was in high school, a boy in my graduating class shot himself at home. It was horrible for the whole school including people that didn't even know him that well. Make sure your kids are taking it alright because it can be a pretty horrible event for them to go through too even though they might not have known him.

That is really sad to be a highschool senior and take your life. I know highschool can be hard I had a hard time in highschool but I just kept thinking it will be over with soon. I really feel for this boys parents. I have heard the song Mooch talked about How Does One Get That Lonely I forgot it was wrote about a true story. I hope everyone at the highschool especially his friends are able to cope with this loss.

Oh my gosh! That is awful. It is a good thing that he did not harm anyone else; but I hate to think what he must have been feeling or going through to take his own life. It must have been a dramatic experience for any of his classmates and or teachers that witnessed the event as well...that's just so sad...
