Bible in a Year

January 6, 2008 3:42pm CST
I'm trying to read the bible in a year, using a plan given to me by a friend. Has anyone else tried or managed this? If you have succeeded, has it helped you in any way? Love to hear any stories on this.

We do not need a schedule for a year to read the Holy Bible. We talk to God through our prayers and God talks to us through the Holy Bible. And so we should be reading the Holy Bible continually or as the need arises if we are outright confronted with problems we don't know how to handle. If we put God as No. 1 in our life, it does not take a year for us to read the whole Holy Bible and as said, we should be reading the Holy Bible from time to time so that there will be no communication gap with God.

While I agree enirely with your comment, in principle, surely being committed to reading a section of the bible each day will improve my overall knowledge? I have done study through bible study notes for years, but by doing this, I will probably be reading parts of the bible I would normally not read. True- God is in charge of our lives and prayer and study are equally important. However, I do intend to improve my biblical knowledge over the next year. Let's see how it goes. Thanks for your comments

I use such a plan. And it is to read 1 chapter each of Genesis, Ezra, Matthew, and Acts. I have followed that and I would say that it is good. I still use that.

I think it is wonderful you are committing to spending time in the Word every day. My husband uses a daily reading (one year) plan and he is very happy with it- he has done this for quite some time now. Personally I do not use a plan. It just doesn't really work for me because I may not be able to read what the plan says to one day and then I am behind and then I get frustrated and then I give up. But, that is just me. I also have never sat down and said "I want to read through the Bible in a year." When I did it, I simply said "I want to read through the Bible." (It took me 5 1/2 months, btw). I do know several other people, too, who use the plans and like them and do well with them.
