How 'health conscious' are you on a scale of 1 to 10?

As I life coach and writer in the healthy living field this is a question I often ask clients. With that in mind I was curious how you would rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 10. To give you some ideas of how I see it within that bell curve a rating a rating of 1 would be that you rarely, if ever give your health, diet and everything pertaining to health much consideration. This rating could include those who love to eat, drink, smoke and be merry and not worry about the consequences their choices are having on their current or long-range health.
Ratings within the 2 to 5 range could be those of you who have decided to make some changes towards healthy living such as giving up smoking, drinking, losing a little weight, drinking more water...but still love the richer foods and know that there is room to cut down on the amount of sugars, carbs and fats. Within this rating many are not into vitamin supplementation because they are unconvinced they are worth the expense or that supplementing the diet makes any difference anyway.
Ratings within 6-8 are those who consider themselves quite health conscious and are into reading labels, staying informed about the latest healthy living information, take vitamins, exercise when they can. People within this rating often offer suggestions and information about their ever expanding health consciousness and usually walk their talk about it.
If there is anyone who would put them in the 9-10 rating...I take my hat off to you and say you are where I aspire to be. You are the ones who are full fledged vegetarians...maybe even Vegans...you exercise, meditate and have your emotional mental, spiritual, energetic and physical aspects in harmony and you keep your life in balance...and good for you that you do. You wonderful testimonies to healthy, balanced living on every level. In my view you should also give yourself a star beside the rating if you are managing to live life that way over the long term. It is not easy to do in the fast-paced world we live in.
Anyway...in case you are curious how I would rate myself...probably in the 6-8 rating. I am health conscious, eat wholesome foods with a low fat diet and David makes wonderful raw, fresh fruit and vegetable juices and I drink two glasses with my knee enhancing powdered supplement GLH and MSM. I don't smoke or drink but I do enjoy a glass or two of white dry wine on special occasions. The reason I cannot w rate myself any higher is because I often throw my sleep patterns off by Mylotting or gaming into the night and sleeping later than I would like to when I do. Exercising consistently over time is something else that I have never quite mastered. Meditation and yoga are things I do...and they help to keep the stress down...but no I am not a 9 or 10 so far.
OK there is my self-honest assessment...care to share yours? No judgments here...just a friendly dialog between Cyber-friends!

This is a hard one for me. I love to eat junk- lots of it- I smoke and drink on occasion usually just when I go out which is pretty much never. But I love junk food- I can't help it. It's bad for you but I guess so is everything else it seems. I do actually meditate and take yoga just because I like it and it relaxes me. But that's about as healthy as I get. :)

Well skinnychick...you are doing some things to support yourself and that is something to give yourself kudos for. My hubby used to be the king of junk food...but has slowly changed his diet to a much healthier one after having some serious kidney problems...and having to have all his teeth removed. That was his wakeup call! However, we all change when we feel of a mind to and I am sure you will do what you need to as time goes on.
Thanks for your input and enjoy life whatever you do...that is the real key here in my view...quality of life!

Very true my dear! Someday I'll lay off the junk food probably sooner than later. But until then I'm going to live it up and love every bad bite! :)

I think I'm about a 5. I have lost 24 pounds or thereabouts and trying to lose more. I am concious of what I eat but not particular on counting carbs and such. I have just cut down on the junk foods and cut all soda out (well maybe have one here or there). I was exercising for a few months until it got cold and then I got lazy LOL but on occasion I do walk here and there. I do take vitamins from time to time but not daily. Thanks for the reminder.

You are welcome for the reminder and it sounds like you have a good level of 'health consciousness' going. Good for you on achieving a 24 pound weight loss...I hope you are proud of yourself because you should be.
We live in a climate that gets cold this time of year and I can appreciate motivation goes down. I hope you continue to take good care of yourself...sounds like you have a lot in place to do so.
Best regards on your journey...

Unanswered questions...sometimes we may never know. I am of the mind that what we put into our bodies either builds them up or breaks them down...but other than that I am not obsessed about it...and I do pay attention. Works for me! You obviously have an amazing constitution to have rebounded the way you have...so just keep on keeping on!

I am a Canadian male, 74 yr.and still working. I have 400 colonies of honey bees to care for in the summer, in Canada. In the winter I live in South Texas USA, where I grow Bananas and Rio Red Grapefruit.
I'm not religious but have a strong belief in God. I'm a Yogi and have a Yoga class in Texas. Been practising Yoga for 30 years. I began a Study of Nutrition and Food Preparation many years ago. About this time I developed a strong disbelief in the medical establishment.Consequently I haven't had a medical checkup for 30 years. I enjoy Good Health. I do yoga for 45 minutes 5 days a week. I never eat a Thing without considering where it came from, and the benefits and drawbacks of ingesting this particular food. I eat Honey instead of sugar. Haven't drank a Coke or Pepsi for over 50 years. I don't drink coffee. I can (and often do) wear a leather belt I bought in 1953. I believe in reincarnation and have had visions of some of my Past lives during Yoga Meditations. Worry and stress are not a part of my life. I sleep well and need about 6 hours a night. Been married for 52 years to the same woman. I rate my self (according to your scale) at 10!
I raised 4 boys and am a Grandad to 2 girls and 2 boys. My Avatar is myself doing a Seated Forward Bend.

Greetings Barehugs..and how lovely to hear from you again. I haven't been here as much during the last couple of months and sincerely have missed having interesting chats with members like you.
When I saw your Avatar from the first time I signed up I was curious about you, and your lifestyle. We have share discussions on a variety of topics...but never one where you so clearly stated how you live and what you do.
I would totally agree with you that you are a 10...and stand up and take a bow...as how you live is my goal. Thank you for reminding all of us that age is just a number and with healthy, balanced living you can be 'youthing' as you age...you are proof of that! Your flexibility in the seated forward bend shows that you are walking your talk...and stretching your stretch! I do yoga...but not in the disciplined way you do...and your flexibility in the pose is impressive!
Great addition to the topic as always...thanks!

Hmmmm.... I think I'll place myself at the rating of 5. I do try to eat healty as possible as I can. But sometimes, it can be a bit of a challenge for me. I know I should have a regular exercise regimen but I don't have the time and if I do, I'd rather spend it on other things. And as much I'm ashamed to say this, I am TERRIBLY LAZY when it comes to exercise!!!
And I can't break my habit of sleeping sooooo late.Like this very moment. It's 2 in the morning and yet, still here I am, typing away. Needless to say, I don't have a regular 8 hour sleep most of the time.

Ah a gal after my own heart...late nights...and sleeping later than I'd like too..yep that is a habit I would like to change too.
I am sure you get a lot of exercise with your little guy...from the photos I have seen of you...you don't have anything to concern yourself about. So you are doing a lot right...even if you only rate yourself a 5.
Good to be in touch again...

I would consider myself a 7-8..workout freak, takes protein shakes & vitamins. avoids sugars, fried foods, saturated fats, and excess sodium. I drink around 70oz of water per day which is the approprite amount for my bodyweight.

Hello and welcome to Mylot. Great to have a health conscious person joining our community. From what you say...I think your self-assessment in the rating department sounds right on! Good for you...I am sure you are an inspiration to those around you. Just as long as you don't 'guilt' them out too often. Been there and done that too...now I just trust people are walking their path as they see fit...and it is all within their right to choose.
Anyway, thanks for dropping by...and I hope you enjoy your Mylotting experiences...it is a great community!

I'm about a 5. I always take my medicine, as prescribed. I'm starting to eat much better as my PCAs can cook better now. I am trying to excercise more, by dancing and playing wheelchair sports. I don't drink or smoke, ever.

From the sound of it you are doing a good job and making progressive changes along the way. That is how most of us do it...a little bit at a time. I know from experience that radical changes often do not last. Your approach sounds good to me. Good job and wishing you continued success in your healthy living goals.

Hello Subha...and thank you for your response...and honest assessment of your situation. Just to let you know it took me years to develop a more 'health conscious' approach to living. So do the best you can...as your can and if you truly want to change you will! My suggestion to all clients is not to beat themselves up when they do fall back...we are all works in progress and do the best we can.
Good luck with your healthy living goals...and just keep on keeping on and you will get there.

Besides my agoraphobia problems... I never had any health problems... and I am not overweight.
So it is not something I worry about. I know what not to do... like I have never ate the fat of meat. I eat lean meat with no fat. I go easy on butter and eggs. But I do those things automatically. I don't need to think about it.
So I would rate myself as a 2. My motto has always been... you can eat anything, drink anything and smoke as well... as long as you do it all in moderation.
I am 56 and still kicking... so I must be doing something right. lol

When I read your response it reminded me that ratings, charts and gauges do not indicate very much of anything...other than as taking points. From the sound of it you are more than a two...but in the grand scheme of things all that really matters is what you have already stated..you are 56 and still going strong! What you are doing is working for you...and therefore why would you change anything?

I see myself as a 5/6. I am aware of what i eat, I have a good idea of nutrition and health and I take that in account in my life and the life of my family, but I don't go overboard either.
I choose mainly good fresh food, plenty of fruits and vegetables, but I will not deprive myself of something richer either. I drink either water or juices made by me, but I will indulge on something else every once in a while.
I make sure that I move but I don't enjoy scheduled mandatory exercise. I prefer to go for a walk with my dog, swim at the beach, ride my bike or Rollerblade with my kids than to go to a gym. I enjoy outdoor activities, I love camping and canoing rather than have a 3 day a week workout.
I enjoy relaxing with my family, talking, watching a movie, playing games and tai chi and meditation help me relax as well.
Yes, 5, 6 at the most. I like balance and I believe that there's space for everything as long as its balanced and used with common sense.

Hi Norhingbettertodo and thanks for dropping by. When I read your sign in name and then your comment I could not help but wonder why exercising might be "something" better to do...than "nothing better to do." (smile)It could assist you in where you would like to be. Just a thought. If not I am sure you will get around to it when the time is right...that is the way it works for most of us.

Your self-honest answer is appreciated. The fact that you added that much needed changes are in the works is a good thing. We all take baby steps on this road called life and hopefully the changes in the works will lead you closer to where you'd like to be.
Good luck with it...

Hi and thanks for your honest self-assessment. We are all a work in progress...the fact that you are trying is the key. Three steps forward...two back...that seems to be the way it goes for most of us.
