McDonalds vs Starbucks Coffee - McDonalds announces plans to give Starbucks a bit of healthy competition in the coffee business.

I just read an interesting article about McDonalds plans to give Starbucks a little competition in the coffee business. I think this is a great idea since it will most likely bring the prices down. I think McDonalds makes a darn good cup of regular coffee, so they should have no trouble competing with Starbucks in the specialty line. They will even have the barristas to serve the coffee and all the accoutrements that you would find in the top coffee bars. How do you think they will measure up? Do you drink McDonalds coffee?

Here Starbucks is so expensive. And usually people who go there just want to show they have taste, in my opinion. They can order a cup of coffee and work on their laptops for a whole afternoon. I prefer to McDonald's because I can't waste my time like this way. Fast food is good for me. And I think McDonald's coffee is fine.

You have echoed my thoughts exactly, youless. It's all a show for status. When I want coffee, I want REAL coffee.

I agree with you on that one! The "in" thing to do! There is a Starbucks attached to a barnes and Noble book store and it is nausiating (is that spelled right?_ to go in there and see all these people dressed so crummy and dirty and sloppy looking, but they have their laptop in their lap and frothy flavored coffee in their hands!

I think this is a great move for Mc Donalds to improve the taste of thier coffee...because i think they have one of the worst coffee... and starbucks one of the best... Mc Donalds store are located all around the world and their prices are quite affordable so it would be nice if great tasting coffee will be made available and affordable at the same time... i look forward to seeing this happen...

Regardless as to whether you think their coffee tastes good or not, aseretdd, McDonalds is not a company to be sneezed at. They generate a huge amount of business, and they are very supportive to charities all over. I am a coffee purist who doesn't go in for the specialty coffees_most of which don't taste at all like coffee-so I will continue to enjoy my coffee from McDonalds.

McDonalds is a multi national company that help generate a lot of employment in my country so i don't really think that they are a company to be sneezed at... it is just in my opinion that competing with starbucks would help them improve their coffee which is somewhat inferior since their specialty is really more on the burgers and fries... and starbuck's specialty is really coffee... hot and cold...

I usually don't go to either place. But, hey, I don't mind paying $4 for a cup of coffee to go with my $1 menu special buger.

Now that's just plain ridiculous, sigma! $4 for a cup of coffee! That would be my allotment for a whole months worth, lol.

I did use to like McDonalds coffee, but having to drink the coffee that is made at the McDonald's here sort of ruined it for me. Here they make it way to strong and even with large amounts of sugar and cream added to it, has a really bad bitter taste to it. Not sure if that is because they add to much grounds to it, or because it isn't as fresh as they say it is, but it is rather horrid. As long as the coffee isn't from my area I'll give it a try, but would prefer not to ruin my entire coffee by trying to get McDonald's coffee here again.

I do think it has something to do with the area I live in. The town is basically a trucking town, and most if not all like their coffee really, really strong and this has carried into the way the McDonalds here makes their coffee. Even when I have friends over they won't drink my coffee, cause they say I make it to weak, but in my opinion it is just right..lol So it's basically just a persons preference in this topic. I had coffee from a McDonalds in Nevada, when I use to live there, and I really enjoyed the coffee, even after burning my tongue..lol! So I do know that McDonalds can make coffee that even I would drink. :)

They make great coffee at the franchise I usually go to, jeweled. Maybe your experience has been colored by going to the wrong place.

That is a good news. With McDonalds getting into that so called branded coffee market, we, the consumers, hope that the price of such coffee would go down and more would be able to enjoy it. I hope McDonalds would also provide free Wi-Fi access to its customers similar to what Starbucks does here. I f that happens, it would be really awesome!

While the article made no mention of Wi-Fi access, shakeroo, it will still be a step up from the status quo.

Wow - where do you live? I would love a Starbucks with free wi-fi! All the Starbucks here (and some McDonalds) have wi-fi, but you have to pay for it. You have to have a Hot Spot account.

Only if I have cream and sugar.. Sorry,I really don't care for McDonalds coffee, I usually drink it black, but if they start doing flavors like starbucks does, I just might find a new favorite..:)

I agree, annettenasser, that there is nothing wrong with McDonalds coffee. It's good and it's hot. That's all that matters to me.

i don't really drink coffee... i usually go for iced chocolate and i know that star bucks make a really good iced chocolate... but i don't really go to starbucks often as the price is quite expensive for me... so i agree with you that if mc donalds start to give a little bit competition to star bucks, then it will be a good thing and it will bring the price down... hopefully it will happen soon...

I have had McDonalds coffee. I do not see that they have anything special. I have never had Starbucks, so I cannot compare. I think that they all have to fight for the business, as people are just not able to afford to spend what they use to.

The only difference I see, Thoroughrob, is that the majority of people who frequent Starbucks are not real coffee lovers. I am a coffee lover, and don't want the taste of my coffee masked by all the extra added flavors. I do wish McDonalds the best in their venture. I just heard on the evening news that in a taste test done in Seattle a professional coffee-taster chose McDonalds over Starbucks.

Funny you mention this as I just returned from McDonald's and have a cup of their coffee sitting right beside me. In my opinion, there is no contest comparing the coffee. Starbuck's is too strong therefore I don't drink it. Only had it once or twice and that was enough to last me a lifetime. There is a group of us who meet in the morning for our coffee clotch. Generally there are 7 of us, mostly men so I love it..lol. Many good laughs, jokes and a fun time. Only a couple of the guys still work so there's never a big hurry for the majority of us to leave. I started the entire group about 20 years ago and the group grew and continues to grow. This morning there were 10 of us. I think McDonald's will do well if they offer a specialty line of coffee.

I like McDonalds coffee. Unfortunately, ours has been closed for several months for remodeling. Remodeling, Heck, they tore the thing down, dug a big hole, tore up the road and have built a new one It was supposed to open before Christmas, but ice and snow prevented it from happening. I wonder if they are going to make the coffee shop upgrade there when it does open. Probably not, as we are such a small town, and we have our own downtown coffee shop and another specialty shop or two. I would try it at least once.

Who knows, GG, maybe they will have them in all of the franchises? Only one McDonalds? Your town must be very small indeed.

I think in most of the times when two or more companies are fighting for a common thing, the prices are bound to come down. it is my idea.lets hope there will be price down as well as quality improvement also.

I think it's a great idea myself. McDonalds does have very good coffee, in fact that's one of the things they do best - certainly better than make hamburgers...lol. I think you're right that it will bring prices down; I hope so anyway! Annie

I personlly do not drink coffee. My husband does though. I think it will be great if McDonalds does this new coffee venture. Starbucks is no where near where we live, but the arches are everywhere. Hopefully this will drive down prices. I'll be looking for this. Hope it happens soon.

It was a joke - based on few years ago when a woman went through the drive thru and ordered a cup of coffee and later spilled it while driving and it burned her and she sued McDonalds for the coffee being to hot and the lid not secure and she won. Pathetic as is sounds, sad but true.

Wow, this sounds great! One less stop to make on the road. If they can make something up like a carmel machiato (I have no idea how to spell it and can barely say it) then I am in.
