Did Lucas name Luke after himself?

I was wondering if George Lucas named Luke Skywalker after himself. Your thoughts?

Luke S. was a nickname Lucas had at school and it was a deciding factor in the hero's name.
Don't ask me where I know this from... I have read sooo many interviews and sooo much information on SW in the last decade. It's just in my head from somewhere... I think it was a TV show.

No idea. I did hear that he would show his kids pictures of some of the creatures in star wars and they would give me ideas of the names for them.

LOL, never thought about it, but yeah I probably did. He's the type of person that would do something like that :-D
