What are your favorite dips and dippers? Do you make your own or buy pre-made?

I love to eat dips and dippers, things like salsa and chips. We have a favorite dip that we always have on New Year's Day, artichoke dip that we have with tortilla chips, and I make that one myself. I also love to make guacamole but often buy it already made just because it's easier. How about you? Do you have a favorite dip or dip recipe? Do you make your own? What do you use for dippers? How about sweet dips, such as marshmallow cream and cream cheese? What do you dip in those? I need some variety. I'd love to read about your favorites and hear your great suggestions. Thanks!

Dips are always good for vegetables. I often use many varities of plan old salad dressings in a little cup to dip my carrots, cucumbers, etc. Now for a salsa dip for tortilla chips, I don't like them really think and chunky, it has to be more juicy for my taste buds. However, strange as it may seem, the chunky salsa combined with a cheese dip is quite fine with me. Go figure! I have also purchased the already made quacamole and like it pretty fine! I have attempted to make quacamole as well. Robin Miller on the Food Network has a good recipe that you can squish together in a food storage baggie! Real Easy! Sweet dips I can do without, I like my fruit plain. However, I could be pursuaded to dip a marshmallow in chocolate!

I know you know how I feel about my chocolate - and dipping a marshmallow sounds yummy! I like the idea of squishing the dip in the baggie. Sounds fun as well as easy and tasty. I'll have to look for that recipe for sure. I'm going to have to branch out with my salad dressings and think "dip" sometimes. I love chunky blue cheese dressing but just never think to use it as a dip. Now I'm getting really hungry and just remembered some cheese-stuffed jalapenos that I have in the freezer. Bet that would go with the blue cheese dip, you think? Thanks for the suggestions!

I just remembered a dip that I make a lot of, mix one package of taco seasoning with a 16 oz container of sour cream and one block of softened cream cheese. Spread in the bottom of a pan, top with a thin layer of salsa, top that with mexican cheeses, top that with what ever you like, olives, black beans, corn, tomatoes, green onion......it is sooooooooooo good with tortilla chips. I made that for the Mexican Buffet for Drew's rehearsal dinner last Friday night :) It did not last long at all!

I use ranch dressing to dip most things in I like to dip carrots and chicken strips and french fries in ranch dressing.
I like to dip chips in melted cheese that is really good. I don't really care for salsa dip all that well I do have it once in awhile though.
I like to put cream cheese on bagels but have never dipped stuff in it.

Yes, I didn't mean to leave out the veggies (I know, I could have had a V8, but don't knock me up the side of the head!). I like carrots in ranch dressing, too, but don't really ever think about dipping the chicken or french fries. I'll have to try that. Of course melted cheese on anything makes it better, right? (Love it!) You know they have the flavored cream cheeses in the store and those should be good with some dippers if they're not too thick. Thanks for the suggestions!

That sounds good! Hidden Valley Ranch has a spicy salad dressing that we like. In fact, I had that last night with salad and threw some baby carrots on top to dip while I was at it. Really good.

We love tortilla chips and eat them all the time with either guacamole, salsa, or bean dip. I almost always make my own dip....occasionally I buy jarred salsa. I sometimes dip baby carrots and celery sticks in peanut butter.
I used to love spinach/artichoke dip but haven't had it in ages.

Oh, yes, I forgot about peanut butter. Great idea, plus I always have peanut butter on hand.
My artichoke dip recipe is just artichokes, green chiles, mayonnaise, and parmesan cheese. I've seen the spinach/artichoke dip at Sam's Club, but I don't think I've actually ever had any. The spinach in it makes it health food, right? Good! Thanks for the suggestions!

Oh, my goodness that cheese ball with the shrimp or crab sounds wonderful! Sounds almost like a cold version of crab cakes, which I absolutely love. I am going to have to try that for sure - and soon. Thanks so much!
I've been known to put hot fudge sauce on a plate and dip apple slices in it. Don't tell anyone - that one I do when nobody's here to catch me, mostly because I don't want to share!

I love those, too. Don't think I've ever had batter dipped, but that sure sounds good. Yes, sometimes ready made is better and this is probably one of those times. Thanks!

My fav and my families as my Layer Bean Dip. Rfried beans, and literally anything else you want. I make it using a wide dish, so you get at least 2-3 choices in each bite instead of one cause it is so deep! I do a layer of beans, then a narrow strip of yellow cheese, a strip of olives, a strip of onions, a strip of white cheese. and alternate it across the layer of beans. This also helps sthose that don't like one thing or another - they like olives, but not onions anda they can still have some dip! You can add guacamole, or other things. I mix salsa into the beans when I run them through the food processor to make the beans mushy so they are a dip and this adds flavor, but I also have a dish of salsa on the side! This is a crowd pleaser - all the way around and only takes minutes to create!

If I am making for a small family gathering I do make my own chips - get the corn tortillas, cut them into triangles and deep fry them in Wesson and flavor them with salt They are GREAT!!! But for a large crowd, they get store bought!

That sounds almost too pretty to eat, but I'd eat it anyway - every item on there! I love Mexican food. Do you make your own tortilla chips to have with it, or do you use something else?

How long do you cook the flour tortillas in the oil? I have never made my own tortilla chips but it sounds great. Have a great day.

I mostly just like 3 tips of dips: salsa, guacamole, and bean dip.
With bean dip, I nearly always buy it. With salsa, most of the time I'll buy it because I like a lot of salsas I can buy and it just takes forever to make a good one. For guacamole, I will eat some of the store bought ones, but if I have time I will make it myself because it is just so much better homemade.
I like tortilla chips dipped and almost nothing else. But with bean dip, I'll also eat Fritos. And pretty much the only way that I will eat Fritos is with bean dip.

I like Fritos and bean dip, too. Bean dip's a healthy choice, too, don't you think? Thanks for the response!

My favorite dip id the onion dip by lay's and any type of potato chip. That is the best dip ever and i'm not really a dip person. I had that dip at a party I want to back in october 2007 and have been craving it ever since. Ifinally got my dip so i'm going to have some a little later. Salsa is also really good. To me homemeade dips taste weird so I don't like them but to be nice to the host I try it.

Well, I was gonna suggest the marshmallow creme, and creme cheese, but you beat me to it. I just dip strawberries and fugi apples in mine, but you could probably use any kind of fruit.
I just made some the other day, and it was yummy! Probably fattening, but yummy. :o)

Oh, but the fruit makes it health food, right?! Besides, a little bit of just about anything is a good thing. Mmm. I'm looking forward to strawberry season. I love fresh strawberries!

my favourite must be salsa. because it is spicy and sour all at the same time. and it goes great with chips.
i dont' make my own salsa, but I know people who make great salsa dips. The tomato little chunks and the vinegar and the tabasco (?) just makes everything wonderful.
I also like those olive oil and black vinegar dips for bread that they serve at authentic italian restaurants!

Yes, we've caught onto the olive oil dipping for bread, too, and like that a lot. Someday I'd love to buy a really outstanding olive oil from Italy or Spain or Greece. I'll bet what they have there is really super tasty. Thanks!

I like cheese, chocolate, mocha and mayo. I just buy it at the grocery. I don't make one. I am not a kitchen person actually. I have so many things attending within a day that cooking is no longer part of it.

Nothing wrong with buying your dips at the grocery store. There's such a wonderful variety available these days, and everyone's in a hurry at least some of the time. Sounds good to me!

My son was home for a month over Christmas and he finished more than a couple jars of salsa - and asked for a hotter variety, which I gladly bought for him. This is the kiddo who used to not be able to be in the same room with salsa because he didn't like to smell it. Now he loves it, so he'd definitely agree with you!

I love eating chips, veggies, breads and dips. My favorite chips are tortilla chips. Some of my favorite dips are bean dip, cheese dips, salsa, and I like to mix salsa and cream cheese. For my veggies I pretty much use ranch dressing. I like getting hawaiian bread and dipping it in to spinniach dip. Have a great day.

Looks like Mexican is very popular with most everyone. Hawaiian bread with spinach dip is something I haven't done in years, but I do think that dip recipe is an "oldie but goodie" that I'm going to have to revive. Thanks!
