When you are finished with your computer activities do you happen to still leave it on while you just turn off your LCD/Monitor screen? Or do you happen to turn it off once you're finished with it? How about do you put it on sleep mode/hibernation mode? I leave my power settings set to where it is always on and I set it where the LCD Screen monitor turns off after 30 minutes. I tend to leave it on if I am downloading something and also leave my two Messengers on in case I receive any offline messages or online text messages from the Philippines.

I don't like having my computer turned on during the night because I can't sleep. I rarely put it on stand by, unless I'm going away for more than a few hours. I just like to save electricity.

there is also the concern, at least for me, of the power lines being hit by lightening and frying the thing.

Ah, yes, that too. It so ironic I forgot after my dad telling me to turn it off during stormy nights. I just hope I won't forget when it's needed xD

I turn my off. I read that even when a computer is hibernating that is still draws power, so, it costs money in electric bills to leave a PC on.

I hibernate the computer sometimes. I also turn off the monitor manually if I am downloading a very huge file and leave it like that for hours. I dont leave it on overnight though,,,

I leave my computer on 24 hours a day every day. I will probably turn it off for on day a week just so that my computer can get a little rest but fro the most part my computer is always on and ready for me to use. I never know when I might need my computer so if I turn it off I just don't have enough patients to wait for it to reboot itself. Leaving it on is just more convienient for me.

I leave my computer on all the time, the only time really it even get rebooted is when windows updates or someone installs something on it. I dont have any power settings on on the pc, but i also have the monitor set to turn off after 30 mins or an hour i'm not sure which one it is. But i dont want it to die on me like the last one did so i have it turn off when i'm not at it ;)

I agree with most that it`s better to turn off at night, not only to save electricity but lasts longer, like a light bulb will last longer if U turn it off, the bulbs get hot and wear out faster...and it`s safer I think for scammers to get into your system because most of them work during the night anyway and how can they get in your system if it`s off?

I think it is a good idea to turn the machine off, not so much for the savings of electricity as I do not think they use much - but mostly to give it a break. the parts should last longer and there would be less dust accumulating inside it.

During the day, if I'm leaving for no more than a few hours, I tend to put it in hibernation mode. That way I can just pick up where I left off when I return. I usually shut off my computer before I go to sleep. I like to save electricity. I don't use instant messaging very often. People usually call me or send text messages through my cell phone which I leave on all night.

I have a laptop and I know that I should shut it down when I am not using it or when I leave the house but I never do. My laptop is on 24-7. With my brother beinng in Iraq, I don't want to miss when he signs on. I also talk to a lot of my other friends and family through instant messaging. I really think the main reason is I am too impatient to wait for everything to load up when I want to use it. I want it to be ready for me to jump online anytime day or night!

Yes, I always leave my pc on unless a storm is coming in. I also have it set for screensaver to come on if I haven't touched my pc in so long. Gets annoying tho sometimes, cause I will be sitting at it but watching tv and it go off. The screen I mean then I have to shake the mouse and it comes right back up. Did you know that it takes more power to turn your pc off then to turn it back on? Yup yup its true. So, to keep the bills down on the provider I leave it on!

At the moment.. I dont turn anything off. I leave the monitor bright lighted, and the cpu I also leave running as it would, if I were using it. Yet, in the past I have used the hibernation mode, and the mode that places the monitor to sleep...

Yes, the computer is on 24/7 because I need to check emails and other stuff doing the day and sometimes I get on it the whole day so it is left on so that it is on when I want to use it and that is most of the day and night...
