My favorite book in recent years has been "The Time Traveller's Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger. It's an interesting story, well written, and unusual. For somewhat more serious reading, I second the person that reccomended "The Kite Runner."

I really couldn't recommend you anything since my book reading is various and more esoteric. I did like the Eugenics Wars as a novel and it comes in 3 parts (The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh). Other than that I'm usually reading books on Smart Growth, various scientific journals & e-writings, political books & blogs, etc. You could also reread or pick up some classics just for old times sake. I'm currently reviewing Moby D'ck and the Leviathan along with other random readings I do.

I really enjoyed THEM, a new book by Nathan McCall. It's character driven so if you are an adventure novel person , it might not be for you. It's a fictitious tale of gentrification in an Atlanta neighborhood and it tells the tale realistically and fairly from both sides of the fence. The two lead characters in the book (Barlow and Sandy) are going to stay with me for a long time. I really appreciate that. I read a lot and so many stories are entertaiing for the time it takes to read them but they are forgotten as soon as I put the book down. This one stayed with me.

I'm really enjoying "The Other Boleyn Girl" by Philippa Gregory at the moment. I'm only halfway through it but it's a massive novel and I can't put it down! I thought I'd read it now because the film will be out this year and I hate seeing a film without having read the book first. It's a really engaging story and engaging characterisations. You know what's going to happen because of how it happened in history, but you still hope for things to work out. I think that's a sign of a good writer, that you really care that much.
