The 24th of this month, Mike will be the big 40. I need some ideas of a party for him. Of course, we could do the traditional black balloons and that kind of thing, but I need something really cute.
I know there are some creative people (and some that are just downright evil lol)
so I need some help friends!
Remember though...this is the pastor-husband that we're talking about.

Put a sign on the fence, saying FINALLY REACHED 40, COME HELP ME CELEBRATE. Then have another sign saying, REASONS 40 IS A FAMOUS NUMBER. Then put a picture e of a football player at the 40 yard line, a picture of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, a picture of a guy sleeping wearing a night cap (forty winks), etc. That is all I can think of, but that will give you a start.

That's neat! I did find out today that I can use the community room at his office. This will make things easier. His boss has offered to distract him in another part of the school until everyone gets there.

well, make the cake look like a tombstone & have someone - preferably another pastor - do an eulogy over it....
best if it could be a suprise party - but hard
I had a friend that wanted a party - espcially a surprise party so bad she wasn't just hinting, she'd say things like
"How can I have a surprise party when I keep asking for it?"
Well, I managed to pull it off with the help of a BUNCH of friends, having the party at someone else's place and having friends bring her back into town in time for the party.
After the party was going I asked if she had ANY idea how hard it is to pull off a party when the GOH keeps asking for one?

That sounds like me. I did everything this year except plan the dang thing myself, and still didn't get a party. I hope that if I plan a huge one for him, that he will take the hint and return the favor. I don't care if it's a surprise or not. I just want to spend my birthday with all of my friends and eat cake.

What about items that all represent 40? You could have 40 of each item like 40 party favors, 40 guests, 40 candles, 40 balloons and so on. Hope he has a great birthday.

that's cute. thanks for the birthday wishes. i'll be sure and pass them on. There have been some great ideas from you guys. I knew there would be, that's why I posted this discussion. I'd been thinking for weeks and everything I was coming up with was boring.

A little boys' party...that is so awesome! to try and "Recapture" his youth! I could ask everyone to try and find something from yard sales and antique stores (that sounds really bad doesn't it?) that was popular in the late 60's-80's while he was growing up!
I wonder if Debbie and Grant could come up with a GI Joe cake?

that might be a really good idea. He is a huge Razorback fan and also likes sevearl baseball teams, so those are both ideas. Thanks for this. I hadn't thought about this. I know that there is a bakery here that does awesome cakes and has a stand up razorback cake in their book.

About a month ago the Pastor's wife of the church I belong to decorated up his van with Happy 40th birthday! The thing was it was only his 38th. This way everywhere he goes that day he will have to display that it is his birthday! Though you may get stuck cleaning it! UGH
Then you get those lawn ornaments and have them put in the front yard annoucing his 40th!

the year that I turned 38, they did that to me. My mother and husband and 3 of my friends took me to eat. Only they told the waiter that I was 40! I kept trying to tell them, nno I'm only 38. She kept winking and saying "It's ok honey...we won't tell anyone. Everyone has to hit the 40 mark eventually". I asked my mother to tell her what year I was born and without blinking my mother lied through her teeth and said November 17, 1964.

Have the first letter of his name and everyone coming has to dress up in something that the letter starts with. A lot of fun! Good luck and have a nice time.

that would be fun! With his name starting with an "m" that would be really cool. We could have mickey and minnie mouse, movie stars. People could even get creative and come as "moo" cows, I'm tired and getting kind of loopy...but this really is a great idea.

hi carpenter!!!
wow! happy birthday in advance to your pastor-hubby. maybe you can ask some close friends and church mates to make notes and to read them allowed during the party. i think that would be a really touching gestured. and like any servant of God, i think your husband would really need encouragement, words of comfort, and touching words.
God bless you both and your family! take care always! :-)

that's a great idea. I had thought about asking everyone that came to write down something about the first time they ever met him. There would be some funny stories...depending on who gets to come. I'm trying to get in touch with his best friend from high school that lives in texas. They haven't seen each other in almost 20 years.

I also think suprise party is the best. I think you should not tell him about any party in the morning when he goes to work. You should then decorate the house with red ballons with heart sympols and other ballons. You can also ask some of his friends or relatives to come for surprise party. Well you can then put some party snow when he reaches the house. Then you have some good food and birthday cake. Switch on the music that he loves at the home. I think most people loves surprise parties.

I know that I would love to have a surprise party! You are right, most that I know love to be the center of attention occasionally. I like to honor people on their special day, but it's kind of cool when the tables are turned.
Your ideas are good...but I want to have it somewhere else, because my house is not very large. I don't have many places for people to sit.

He wants a quiet birthday dinner with just me and the girls and maybe my brother and sister in law and their kids.
I'd like to do something a little special for him since he's always going out of his way to do something for us.

Spend alot of money of drinks casue he will mostlikly want to get drunk. But this would be nice to do. Have a nice dinner out with him and all his friends and all split bill. Then you go to the clubs and party the night away. Or the strip club either one is good i am sure for him.

I guess you couldn't have a stripper there then.I heard a lady at work say she hired a stripper for her husband.

no, that probably wouldn't be the best idea! He might have some friends that would enjoy it, but there are some older ladies in our church and my mother and mother in law who would probably run me out of town on a rail! LOL
That's not really his cup of tea...but thanks for the suggestion anyway.

I'm not even sure where I would go to hire a stripper. lol
are they in the phone book? Yellow pages?
Stippers are us?
My daughter was out with a friend from school a few weeks ago and they hhad car trouble and broke down in a part of town that is known for women of the evening hanging out on the street corners. Kris was afraid to get out of the car because she was wearing a skirt and tank top.
