I was just talking to a friend about differnt types of food and she was saying how she didn't like mashed potato but wished she did as it is the best thing to eat for any stomach ailments, she told me in some parts od Europe they eat mashed potato for ulcers and many other stomach ailments. I have never heard of this before, being a potato lover myself, is it possible that something nice can be good for you...anyone else ever heard of this ?????

I had never heard of this before now either. I love all kinds of potatos too. I think it would actually make my stomach hurt worse though as it would be heavy on my stomach after eating it. All food makes my belly hurt for a little bit every day as it is. That is why I am not sure if it would help my stomach ache or not, but it may help alot of other people.

Your welcome.
Yeah. It just seems your tummy would hurt worse with the weight of the potato laying in there. Maybe it has something to do with the starch that is in the potato?

Potatoes as an alkalizing food can be very good for stomach. In some cases, juice for red potato is good for stomach ulcers...

I've never heard of this either. I just ever heard of that the potato is a kind of healthy and good food for people. And if you want to keep fit, you just keep eating potatoes every meal, only potatoes. But I don't know wheather it works for any stomach ailments. And I don't think it is a good choice to eat potato when you suffering stomach or ulcers, why not the pills?
But I like eat potatoes too, they're tasty...just the mashed potato, well, I haven't tried before...heyhey...
Good Healthy ^_^

No I have not heard of this one but maybe it is something to keep in mind. When I was pregnant and had quite bad morning (all day) sickness and the one thing I did find I could eat and keep down was mashed potato only so maybe this is on the same level as it is stomach related! And a natural way of healing which is even better.

I've never heard of that either but I guess it does make sense...many people consider it a comfort food...it has a soothing, comforting quality to it. Potatoes are very nutritious as long as they're not loaded with fatty butter and cream.

Not sure if it really works,
but I love the idea!
Just the other day I made
homemade mashed potatoes for the
first time in three years and my
spouse said that they were the best
he'd ever had!

I don't know if it helps you tummy to heal or not, but I do have a lot of stomach problems. When I am having trouble I usually eat mashed potatos, green beans and dry toast. It seems like this is the only thing I can keep down. But I don't put a lot of butter in the mashed potatos.
I really think that it depends on the person though. Usually when someone is having stomach problems, they somehow know what they will be able to handle. Sometimes for me it is only dry toast.

Yes, mashed potato is good for digestion because your stomach and colon don't have to work hard to break it down. The fact that it's mashed (instead of a whole potato) means you've done a lot of the work of breaking it down, which means it's in a state that is more conducive for processing and absorption.
Potatoes are also highly nutritious, so they're an efficient way to maintain vitamin/salt/electrolyte levels when you can't tolerate an array of normal foods, as a normal healthy diet calls for.
You don't have to put a lot of fat and milk in your mashed potatoes, so it doesn't necessary have to be heavy. Just put enough to get it into a pastey/creamy state and do your stomach a favor. I would even avoid using milk since bad stomachs can be sensitive to lactose. I'd use water instead.

I have potatoes almost every day so it is nice to know now that is the reason I'm still alive. haha
I suppose the reasoning is that the potatoes must be boiled and not fried or roasted.
I wouldn't have thought that mashing them or leaving them whole or in halves would have made any difference to the diet.

I know that when I don't feel well, I want two things... Campbell's Alphabet Vegetable soup, and/or mashed potatoes! The soup has an enzyme that really helps for colds and flu, and the potatoes are gentle on the stomach. I just use a bit of salt and mash them with Mocha Mix instead of milk because I can't have dairy. I would live on potatoes, if I could... I love the flavor, they have lots of nutrition, and they're only as bad as what you put on them!
