At what age would you give your child permission to get a Tattoo? Why that age?

Argh! Probably at 18... By then, he would be an adult. But I have YEARS to go for that anyway... ;)

I will tell my kids the same thing my mom told my brother. When you are 18 you can do whatever you want. He wanted to get his ear pierced but needed my mom's permission. She said when he was 18 he could do it since he wouldn't need her there anymore. So he waited. He still got it done. He never did get the tattoo he wanted, though. At least not yet. He is 27 now.

Well my brother and I grew up in an environment where tattoos and piercings were the norm. We both wanted them, but my dad, even in all his tattooed glory told us that until we turned 18 and knew for sure that this was pretty much permanent, he wouldn't okay it. I waited until I turned 21 and am glad I did because now at 31 I have 4 that have meaning to my life. My brother just celebrated his 19th birthday, but for his graduation gift in May, my father took him for his very first one.

I don't know.. 16 at a minimum.. but it all depends on maturity, trust, and making sure they understand the seriousness of the situation. Make sure they get something they won't regret.. it's all situational.

I have 2 girls both under 4 years old. They both love my tats but havent yet asked me about getting one. If it was to come up (and Im sure it will) I think I would tell them they need to wait until at least 16.
I give our oldest temporary tats all the time and she loves them. I think this will help her understand when the time comes that when she does get a real one, it wont just wash away.
