I hear all this people who's star rate went down because some gave them negative ratings.
At first i never do negative ratings i think it's childish. And i don't understand why people do that.I'm mean you discuss on MyLot to have fun and make money and friends.
So why give someone a negative rating, because they don't agree with you?Is that your problem if so you're really pethatic and you should leave MyLot because everywhere in live you have people judging and disagreeing with you
Now it is a different situation when someone's being really rude to you or just offending you then i think it's ok to give bad rating.
But i think MyLot should stop having this best and bad ratings it's unfair.I could give everyone a bad rating or a best rating if i want to.
Sorry guys i needed to vent.I don't care if someone does that to me,but i hear a lot unfair bad rating with other members here.

I've wondered those questions myself, but what can we do? myLot doesn't care enough to ban the abusers. Certainly they notice when a user has a 9 tonight and a 1 the next night that something is going on. Trolls constantly pick on one person then follow that person around myLot stalking and harrassing them, marking them negatively because they are trolls.
Most trolls find their victims on hot button topics such as abortion, circumcision, religion and politics. My suggestion would be to stay away from those topics if you value your star.
I know a lot of people on here start out high at an 8 or a 9, but I got my star yesterday and got a UPS Brown 3. I worked up to a 4 overnight.
I always rate people + when I respond or read their responses with in a discussion. I only rate negative if someone is violently abusive or just goes way off track and makes a post so off the wall that it leaves us all scratching our heads when we read the post.

Thank you for your tips i will definately stay away from those topics.I don't mind getting negative rates but it must be fair. And as long as i know i haven't done anything wrong.
Well it's true obviously there's nothing to do about except for if MyLot moves the negative ratings and positive ratings, but like you said they will not do that.
Anyways i will keep away from the topics you told me.
Thank you for your response.

Your story is similar to mine. I was an 8 at 100 posts and then a 4 the next day. After that there was hovering between 4 and 5, eventually settling on 4.
Oh and if anyone thinks I deserve it, think again. I've submitted many quality responses and discussions, even have legions of best responses too. Yes I can be opinionated and I'm not afraid to be so, but I've also helped out many people with their problems, that too needs to be considered when thinking about star rating abuse.
Mylot has lost some decent members due to the star rating and its abuse.

Yes cause often people get negative ratings for giving there opinions and disagree with the other member.
I'm sorry to hear that your star rate decreased so bad.It takes more time to get back at the star rate you had before and like you said also i have best responses so why doesn't the star increase with the best responses?

While a very large portion of the discussions I rate will get + ratings from me, there have been exceptions as you mention. For members that get very rude, I don't have a problem with giving a negative rating. I have even gone so far as to report them to mylot when the discussion calls for it. I will also give a negative rating for members that decide to spam and post their referral links all over a discussion.
I have to disagree with removing it altogether though. I think it does allow MyLot to see when there is a problem with certain members and take action when called for.

I believe it's in the FAQ that if members feel they are being given negative ratings for no reason that they can appeal to MyLot and have it looked into. I don't give negative ratings lightly. It has to be a bad situation for me to do that & that's why I've only had to give a few of them. One case in particular was from a guy that made verrrry lewd remarks on a friends discussion, telling her to stand on the street corner to make extra money. That one got marked negative and was reported.

Thank you for your response. But wouldn't it be better when you give someone a negative rate that before it's given MyLot admin would look at the case first and then let them decide.
I think it's good what you do to report the abusers to MyLot admin when they go too far.

I think it's childish as well. I give a postive rating no matter what. Now if a person is rude or whatever I don't rate at all. I learned in the past that giving a negative rating not only effects that person it also causes my ratings to go down. So all in all it's not even worth it. I come to mylot to discuss things and at the same time to make extra money on the side.

I didn't knew giving someone a negative rate it would effect your rate too. That sounds really foolish and unfair.
I guess it's better to never guve bad ratings indeed.Just for your own good.
I mean like you said you come here to discuss make extra money and ofcourse have a good time. The star rate doesn't effect your earnings right?

Its really childish. I have nevber rated anyone negative in mylot. But I fell victim to it myself. I disagreed with one discussion. the person who started the thread told she is very offended and rated me negative. not that she rated many of My responses and discussions negative. due to this my star is down.

I would definately call that member childish.I mean it's just an opinion right. It's easy to say to be offended however people also lie a lot.
People don't have any guts anymore they're already offended if you would say you don't like someone's haircut.
It's your word against the other and that's the problem you'll never win the fight.

I think it is not a childish and it is only their right to rate someone that they think that someone is not fit to their taste. For me, I don't rate a negative to any discussion, I always rate it to a positive and if I don't like it, I will leave it blank or I don't rate it anymore.

I agree with you.
Some people are just offensive and mylot want the rating system to work, what is childish is down voting but I won't tell them they should leave this place. that's there choice.

I do agree with the fact that if someone is rude and offensive it's ok to give someone a negative rating however there are people on mylot abusing this and everyone who disagree with them in a polite way get negative ratings. Now i call that unfair and childish.I mean we're adults isn't it time to accept that someone doesn't always share our opinions.

Actually I think they should change the star rating. Instead of having it reflect other's ratings of you I think they should make it reflect your participation. In other words the more responses you make, discussions you start, ect. the higher your star goes. The less you participate the lower the star. It might help motivate ppl to participate more.

Right now I don't really see the point in the whole rating system b/c ppl mostly use it to either + if they agree with you or - if they don't. The only time I've ever - someone is if they were abusive or down right hateful and then I also let Admin know about it.

Yeah i think they should stop the rating system and then if someone is abusive and rude and offensive then let admin decide about the situation.

I agree with you.I atfirst thought it did have to do with the participation but soon found out it wasn't.
Maybe they will change it someday.I think it would be a great idea and it's much more fair to everyone.

I also think it is childish to give negative rating to the discussions. Most times I give a positive rating to the most of the discussions. If I do not like a discussion most times I just leave it rather than giving it is a negative. I also think it is rude to give a negative rating to the discussions.

Thanks for your response.I have never gave someone a negative rating even though they were rude or offensive or not agreeing with me.
But it does mean that we have to reply to discussions which we only agree with the other person.Or just pick the discussion which we know we won't be rated at all.
Maybe they should make a section with no ratings at all.

I agree with you for the most part. i think that everyone on mylot is entitled to have their own opinion. I think that is what is great about mylot because we are all different people from different backrounds and different countries. But it seems to me that there is a small number of mylotters that are negative about pretty much every conversation. Now I am not going to mention any names, but I think that the rating system in that case is a good one. But for the most part I agree, really this is nt Mylot high school and we should all have the ability to be civil with eachother.

Yes for we are mature enough to know better.Of course i don't mind if someone disagrees with me but it must be in a polite way and not in a rude way.I think we should respect eachothers views and if someone disagrees just think ok he/she thinks differently and it goes into one ear and goes out the other ear.

Whenever I see a 10 star rating I immediately find myself thinking less of that person. A myLoter with a 10 star rating is a pussie-footer who watches each and every post, and each and every response, buttering everyone up (always thinking about keeping that 10 Star) To me this is not only dishonest its despicable. To be dishonest is to destroy myLot for everyone. Check this out by viewing those myLotters who routinely post the best Posts and the most interesting and best thought out responses. Its a fact that the Best Posters and Responders have lower ratings! I like rating system and I think its one of the good things about myLot.

You have a point there i didn't think about this before.
It's possible that those who have a 9 star have lots of best responses. But like someone else in this topic said maybe it's better to put some other rating system as for participating in discussions.
But you do know that there are also members who are abusing the system right?
That's why i started this topic as it doesn't seem to be fair.
Its also not fair if members only want to keep their 10 star rate by responding to every discussion they see but i think there are not many of them.
I myself only response to people if i think i can give them advice or if it's a topic which i find very interesting.

There are some members with 6 and lower stars with tons of best responses too, and some quality responses, and quality discusions! That's what should be emphasized here. That and look at the peoples responses, best responses and discussions. I said it in other discussions like this and I'll say it again here.

It is childish and usually members do it because they don't agree (this is against the rules), or they were completely decimated in a debate (against the rules), or they just don't like the person (also against the rules).
Its terrible. And its still going to happen. The worst part is some people actually support the nonsense thinking the star system is still fair. It is not! It's BROKEN!! The stars are supposed to tell you who submits the best quality in responses and discussions. The stars as they currently are tell you who avoids the tougher discussions and who is not afraid to really express their opinion. Its not working as intended, therefore its broken. It should be overhauled or at least there should be some BETTER EFFORTS toward what can be negatived and what cannot. Negative ratings for someone viciously attacking another should be done, negative ratings for someone writing a semi dissertation on why religion is false(or any other 'hot topic') should not happen.

Thank you.I agree.People are braking the rules. It seems like they don't care about it.But i also wonder why MyLot doesn't do anything about it though a lot of people are complaining about it.But it's hard to check wether someone gave someone else a negative rating because he doesn't agree or like him or wether he was offended in a rude way.It will be your voice against the other.

I agree with this. I try to stay away from the people who right "I rate every post" like there trying to scare you or something. I only rate negative if the person is personally attacking. I dont care if you have a differant opinion then me thats why I'm on here to learn diff points of view.

I got a great tip from a member.Avoid some sections here in MyLot that's where they are the most active. You can read it on the first page of this topic.
I try to avoid those people especially in the religious section because there i had that problem.
It's great to see different views and it's ok to disagree with one another. The world would be boring if we all would think the same.

I especially enjoy the "religion" discussions. Not that I'm out to discourage anyone from their chosen Faith, but because this is where I get the most enthusiastic rebuttals. If this is a discussion forum, why back away from discussion?
