I have been taking a home remedy that taste nasty but has great health benefits. It is a mixture of honey and the red apple cider vinegar. It has actually helped in making my cold symptoms not so bad so I am not as miserable. Money is tight right now so no cold medication so I dug up a book that used to belong to my grandfather The Vinegar Book. It has alot of information in it and it seems that red apple cideer vinegar and honey can cure or help ease alot of what is wrong with you without the harse stimulants of drugs. all you need is a clothesspin..lol It is an aquired taste that is for sure. I do feel alot better atleast I can breathe..it says vinegar can cure what ails you..and that it was popular in the old days as a cure all. mix 1 cup of honey and 1 cup of red apple cider vinegar and take 2 tablespoons every 4 hours or as needed. Do you have any home remedies for colds or arthritis, joint pain, skin problems,?

Not having health insurance makes it very expensive to go to the doctor let alone get prescriptions filled so I have done some research and now use many natural and homemade products for several of my health issues. We eat a lot of foods with garlic in it as garlic is very healthy for your body. We also take cinnamon tablets and eat a lot of food with cinnamon in it as it helps keep blood sugar low and actually helps keep you from having to take meds for borderline diabetics. One product that we make is chickweed healing salve. We grow our own herbs (some of which are actually weeds to most people) and infuse them in coconut and olive oil. Add some beeswax, vitamin E and tea tree oil and you have a wonderful salve for itching, cuts, scrapes and also as a moisturizer for your hands. I have a friend that has psoriasis and since she is using this salve she says it has helped her skin a lot. I also make a lotion using habanero peppers that I use for sore muscles and swelling. It gives off a warm feeling first and then the peppermint I have in it gives off a cooling effect. Works better than icy hot and is soooo much cheaper. It is a shame that since antibiotics were discovered the old remedies have been forgotten as they really work and don't have a lot of the chemicals and side effects that current medicines have.

I know baout not having insurance. My husband doesn't have a steady 9-5 job with benefits he chose to be a carpenter when he gets some work. So that means no job benefits. And we live barely from paycheck to paycheck. So these home remedies I have got try where do you get coconut oil? tea tree oil? I have been trying to eat alot of raw onions and garlic along with taking the vinegar honey..my husband refuses to even let me breathe his way...With all the prices hikes lately nobody can really afford the prices of things they need. I do have high blood pressure,I am borderline diabetic(It runs in my family both sides).I also have psoriasis I hate it. it is not on my arms though it chose to stay on my head and face area. It drives me batty with all those flakes. My grandfather had it and so does my Uncle. Having it doens't do alot for self esteem. That sounds like a great salve. My husband hands look aweful he used to serve gas at a station and it has done something to them they are always so rough and it makes his hands break and bleed in winter and is so painful. so I am going to try this salve maybe it will help we seem to have tried everything else. Alot of people like the idea that they could pop a pill and not have to taste the product. Like vinegar and dandelion tea..which I drunk last year when I was retaining alot of fluids. I even dried a bunch but ran out. nasty stuff but it worked with no side effects like other pills for fluid retention. Stupid to have to keep taking pills to counteract the side effocts of another. Well thanks for the great information, I appreciate it alot. +

I bought tea tree oil from my local health store. I had been having a small acne problem, and a natural remedy site suggested using tea tree oil. It worked beautifully! And the cinammon capsules work too. My sister is diabetic and her doctor told her to take those. So since my dad is borderline diabetic he tried it, and it lowered his blood sugar too.

Yes, Tea Tree oil is a fungicide and also works as a preservative and that another reason we put it in our salve. I have a hand crafted gift shop with over 30 crafters putting things in to sell and I thought I would try selling my salve in there and people really like it. I am also making natural lip balm, and furniture paste/was from all natural ingriedents tool What I like about using products like this is that since they are all natural I don't have to worry when my grandkids come over cuz if they would get into my salve it would not hurt them. It is also something they let me put on their cuts and scrapes without a fight as it doesn't burn.

I really don't know of any home remedies for my household, but my dad used to drink a hot toddy when he had a cold. It consists of honey and a little whiskey mixed. It seemed to help him break the cold symptoms. I wish I knew some for headaches and arthritis. I do know that I drink a little milk when I have heartburn and that makes my heartburn go away pretty quick.

Wow. I drink alot of tea. I don't get migraines but I do get headaches every so often. I have never tried the ice either. I will have to try that next time. Someone said they eat a teaspoon of mustard also to stop a headache and they said it workes for their whole family. Thank you for the valuable tip.

Here's some herbal teas that may help with headaches; feverfew, ginko, lavender, milk thistle, parsley, peppermint, rosemary, wood betony. Herbal teas that may help with arthritis; alfalfa-peppermint, chamomile, cinnamon, dong quai, feverfew, ginger, juniper berries, nettle, white willow, wild yam, wood betony.

I don't know anything about arthritis but I do know about headaches. I get migraines but if I catch them early enough I can prevent them from getting full blown. As soon as I feel a headache coming on I drink a cup of hot tea, then lay down in a dark room. I put a small ice pack under my neck and one on my forehead (you need to lay on your back). Someone told me the throbbing comes from the blood pulsing through your viens and since they are constricted you get the throbbing. The ice seems to make the throbbing stop and the headache goes away. Maybe it will work for you.

I'm nursing a cold now and I might have to try that. However since having problems with my gall bladder last year I can't stand apple cider vinagar anymore. When I was having pain from my gall bladder I found out that if you eat raw radishes and take a table spoon of apple cider vinagar everyday with water it will dissolve any stones or clear out any bile in your gall bladder. It really saved me a lot of pain. I did have to get mine removed but it was because it hadn't been working half the time like it should. I have a low immune system due to having ebstein barr 6 years ago. I starting to take garlic pills and I found I wasn't getting sick as often as I use too. I've had allegry issues and couldn't get the medicine I needed and used a cuetip and to put saltwater up my nose. It really works. I use tea tree oil on my scars now. My skin use to be so hard to heal but tea tree oil works wonders. Also tea tree oil works on toenail fungus. I eat yogurt for a yeast infection and drink cranberry juice and eat blueberries for a urinary tract infection. I get coca cola surup for a stomach ache. I eat pineapple for arthritis. It may sound odd but I really think it works. My glandmother who's over 70 has pineapple juice everyday and she doesn't have even half the aches and pains I hear from everyone elses grandmothers. I drink a lot of herbal teas to keep healthy. I've used vanilla extract for burns. There are just so many things you can do.

I will have to try the pineapple juice my knees and hip and joints have been killing me with the cooler weather we have been having. I am going to try the saltwater and q-tip before I go to bed especially since I find it harder to breathe laying down. My mom is a diabetic and it takes her forever to heal so sounds like the tea tree oil is good for everything. I will have to get me some garlic pills I didn't know if they worked or not and didn't want to waste money if they didn't but if they help prevent colds it is something to look into. I hate to admit it but I do have toenail funus on my big toe. Thanks for all the ideas. I am writing all these down for further use and so I don't forget them. I have to remember vanilla extract seems i am always burning my hand when I am taking things out of the oven.

Elderberry juice is the best thing for diabetic. The garlic pills really do work and you can get just a cheap bottle that will last a long time. It's also the best thing for high cholesterol.

Whew, you are tough to take that! I like home remedies as well, but for the life of my cannot remember much of any. I know it's not really a remedy, but taking a teaspoon of chili sauce and mustard together speeds up the metabolism by 10 percent. The recommendation is to take it every morning so it will help burn calories throughout the day. Might need another clothespin for that! The other is that lemon water is very very good to flush out a person's liver. Since I was born with some liver problems I really should start drinking some of that. I guess lemonade doesn't count! : )

Believe me I have to gag it down... it is some vile stuff even with honey in it. But is working. It also helps me breathe easier. I need my metabolism speeded up that is for sure. I need to check that out. It can't be as bad as vinegar.lol,Actually I need my liver flushed Doc said I was getting to much fatty infiltration through my liver and it was harming it and lemon water is also a fat flusher. I have tried those little plastic lemons and those bottles of lemon and lime juice, they might work but they don't do alot for the taste. I have found the real lemon fruit to be best. Love lemonade it is my favorite summer drink besides ice tea .Maybe lemonade would work if it was made with a sugar sub. or maybe honey? Wrongway: I don't like drinking my tap water, The city water taste to much like chlorine. I usually make teas or coffee with it. Occasionally I will get bottled water to drink. I quit drinking pop to help me lose weight since i heard that the pop makes it harder to lose it.

I agree with you on that one. I had a friend who drank that and I tried it...once! I couldn't do it as it gagged me. I recently had some problems with kidney stones and I told the doctor I don't really drink water, except when I make tea or hot chocolate. I do however drink lemon propel water and I like it. I don't know if it is the flavor of the water or the water itself but my kidneys seem to be doing better (less problems than I had before). Maybe you could drink that.

Well my late grandmother taught me that when you have a sore throat to mix honey with lemon juice and take a tablespoon of it. Also when you have a stuffy nose to snort some salt water. I too have suffered in the past with no health insurance of course I got pregnant so the welfare department gave me health insurance that is until after I have the baby then they take it away. I learned that when you have a toothache to put a piece of clove next to the tooth and it takes away the pain. For hives mix up some oatmeal and put on the hives it takes away the itch. Their was an old tale that said when you have a headache to put a rose quartz stone against your head or wear it around your neck. My grandmother and great grandmother knew plenty if only I could remember them.

Yeah, my great grandmother and grandma and grandpa used the home remedies alot that is who got me into doing them and like you I would know alot and for what if i could just remember then. I wish now that I wrote it all down. Where I live you get a medical card for as long as your child is in your home till they reach 18 years of age. I actually did the clove thing once when I was at my grandmas it worked great.I have took many oatmean bathes and had oatmeal filled sock slightly mushy rubbed all over when I had poison ivy. Haven't heard about the rose quartz stone though I should look into that because I get alot of headaches and migraines. Thanks for the suggestions and the response to my discussion.

Cool Thanks, Almost sounds like a witchs brew. But the ingredients you can get online or in a chinese herb place or in health stores. Most of these are chinese herbs, estern herbs, but it is best to consult a chinese medicine practitioner or a homeopathic practitioner before using these herbs. Wild yam has been used since the 18th century for menstrual cramps and to help relieve pains of childbearing..but it is also good for reducing the swelling caused by rheuatoid arthritis.

Your grandfather's book sounds like one that I would not be able to put down until I had read it cover to cover! As for home remedies, my grandmother swore by vinegar too! She used it for everything. Another home remedy that others in my family used to do was to mix lemon juice and honey and take that for cough and congestion. Some people put a bit of whiskey in it too, but my family didn't.

I believe that is what I did..lol read it from front to back. It has some great things in it that the apple cider vinegar is supposed to help or cure you wouldn't believe that money you'd save. Take for instance if you feel a cold coming on start taking the apple cider vinegar 2-3 times a day (1) tablespoon each time and you can stop a cold coming on in its tracks. I eat alot of garlic to help me keep colds at bay also..Also you can make up a solution of 1 cup of warm water and 1/2 teaspoon of kosher salt and it is great for a sore throat gargle and to help clear the nasal passages for the nasal passages just use a eye dropper to drop solution into your nasal passages with your head back.I tried this and it worked very well you can also gargle apple cider vinegar and it helps with the throat as well.

I've read that taken a teaspoon of honey with a bit of fresh garlic a few times a day or so when sick can actually help get rid of your cold. My partner is currently sick and I reminded her of this when it started. She's been taking that mixture every day and has been feeling better, but is still sick. But let's just say, she doesn't sound nearly as bad as she did when she first got sick.

Alot of people forget about home remedies because now days it is just so easy to go to the store to the cold/flu isle and grab a box or bottle of something to take. Which most of these cost alot, when most people have things right at home that will fix what ails them with less money and less side effects and they don't harm the liver. I am glad your partener is feeling alot better. Thanks for the response I appreciate it alot.

Yes, I have heard that this is a good cure all. I've also mixed cayenne pepper in tooth paste for my daughters before when they have had a tooth ache. Clove is also supposed to be good for tooth aches. Cayenne pepper is also good when mixed in lotion for joint and muscle pain. That's all I can think of at the moment.

I have got to try that. My husband and I suffer from joint pain and muscle pain alot. I have heard that 2 glasses of hot chocolate a day will help lower your blood pressure. I tried that and it worked. Don't know if it is because it relaxed me which would drop my blood pressure since I was calm. But it was a good and tasty way to lower it beats medication anyday.lol Thanks for responding to my discussion I really appreciate it and the tips and suggestions you gave me. Have a nice day.

Gargling can moisten a sore throat and bring some relief. Try a teaspoon of salt dissolved in warm water, four times daily. Other than that tea and rest.Hot steamy shows help with the aches and pains of cold and flu, too. Mostly the resting is the difficult part.

Honey is the best all around remedy for many things....even without the vinegar!!! When you can afford a cold remedy a great one to reduce your symptoms and to ward off the cold is made by Nature's Way and is called Umcka...it is a liquid and is made from African Geraniums...I use it whenever I feel a cold coming on ...Sambucol is another product by a virologist that is made from Black elderberry....the oatmeal is great for itchy skin and dry skin ( like the expensive Aveeno products) and lately they have even been touting honey as a product to help arthritis!!! Good luck with everything!!
