Tonight begins the tedious to some and hilarious to others, auditions for American Idol...This show seems to gain popularity each season and seemingly has no quit...Are you a fan of it all...are there parts that you hate?..Do you watch it and vote when the time comes..or lurk around your television muttering comments to yourself? Or are you oblivious to it all and never even turn it on? How do you feel about American Idol returning tonight?

I"m neither. I just don't watch it:)
I don't have any special comments about it, I'm sure I have seen worse, but it's not a show that I watch either.
I am not really a big fan of tv - which I think it's not a bad thing :) And some shows don't really appeal to me even if they're big hits.

When it first came out 7 years ago it was exciting and it was fun and great to see kids get their dreams to come true. After awhile it got a little more vile, on the judging side that is. Now the only reason my hubby and I watch it is to see who is the worst singer and who goes to Hollywood. You know basically some people sing really well and they never get to go to Hollywood and some sing really bad and they get to go. The show is only fun at the beginning with all the kids trying to get their dream. But after it just becomes to much of a popularity contest and then it get's boring. I say enough is enough.

Agreed - it's acheived "lame" status in my book... same with Survivor.

I am definitely a fan of the show, always have been. Of course, it's become more about the process than it is about the star anymore. There have been recent stories about a number of former winners and contestants (Ruben Studdard, Taylor Hicks) that have waned in popularity and been subsequently dropped from their labels. It's always fun to watch the journey and the transformation of some of these contestants, and you do get people like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and Chris Daughtry that transcend the show itself.
I can't wait for tonight, I am definitely ready for the show to come back. Not only to watch the good singers but to hear the bad ones as well. It's always amusing to see some of the mroe deluded people who think that arguing with the judges will get them somewhere. When it comes down to it, I might vote depending on whether or not I like a particular contestant. Mostly, I watch for the show though.

I'm sorry, but I tend to avoid American Idol the way most people avoid the local hospital's Emergency Room on Friday evenings at five of midnight. I just don't understand the appeal of the show. Then that's just me.

I can certainly understand why the networks put it out, as it is relatively writer strike proof. All the reality shows are.

American Idol is hardly the only show I avoid with a passion. I tend also to steer clear of sitcoms.

Well i live in australia so i watch australian idol, which is pretty much the same thing but with different judges n different accents lol... but i still watch idol. like everything else that grazes over our television screens, the very first idol was the most exciting and nothing will ever compare but i think i mainly watch now to get a kick out of the crazy funny people that come in insane outfits and those poor people who think they can sing... its still entertaining... well some aspects at least =P

I'm not really a fan of the show but I do like watching it during the auditions because I find it hilarious that some of those people get on there and act foolish. You got the ones who actually think they are good but they aren't and you can see they are hurt when they hear that they are not good. And then you got my favorites, the ones who know they are bad but act like they are awesome and then blow it all out of proportion when they get turned down, haha. But I usually stop watching it once they stop the auditions, although I might watch a few shows here and there at the end of the season when they are down to the last couple contestants.
