It looks like an average person in virtually living on Caffeine. It's in the coffee, in the tea, in most of the cold beverages and we are having it early morning, after lunch, in the evening and around dinner. Caffeine has it's many disadvantages besides keeping us awake and one of the major problem is that it blocks the absorption of different vitamins and minerals in our body. So ideally no body should be taking in any caffeine before and after a meal or while taking any vitamin but I guess not many people know about it and may be that's why we are unable to get the most out of our natural diet and have to rely on artificial supplements. Any thought?

I avoid caffeine and artificial sweeteners/ingredients. I know some people who practically live on coffee and/or soda pop. I feel terrible when I consume caffeine and junk food so I've cut it out of my diet. I have as many whole/fresh foods as possible...fruits and veggies, nuts, beans, whole grains...

you are absolutely right. We've no idea how damaging are the caffeine and artificial sweeteners (in fact everything artificial). People think drink a diet drink saves them but they've no idea that aspartame is carcinogenic (something which can cause cancer) and it's a well established fact.

I am trying to drink less caffeine. Its not easy, as its in a lot of drinks. I have heard that absorption of vitamins is less.

I've switched to green tea/ white tea (with citrus) to avoid the caffeine from coffee, tea and other pops. Green tea has anti oxidants and less (sometimes none) caffeine than regular tea/coffee. The other best choice is fruit juice which would be an excellent replacement for pop and now there are juices available with no extra sugar added.

Well, I had no idea that caffine blocked certain vitamins from absorption! The only thing thats people don't consider when taking the other supplements is how much is actually being absorbed..if they are drinking caffine and taking vitamins how would one know if they have outweighed the absorption factor of caffine!
