do you keep a record of your payments?

Everytime you pay your bills or you get your payslips, do you just put them away after paying or studying them? I have seen some who have a folder of their bills payments and their payslips.
My co-worker keeps her bills payments and payslips in a folder and that's the first time I knew about it:) I am a little guilty of those too, I just tried if it would be okay for me. But being the lazy bee that I am, I didn't get to keep everything and I just put it away after.
How about you, do you keep records of your payments? Do you file them in a folder, or specific folders? Do you ever do that? What do you think about people being so organized like this?

No, after I confirm the payment has been received by the bill issuing authority, I destroy its records. I find there is no use of keeping it. It unnessarily pile up garbage, which will ultimately be destroyed by us.
Good Post!

It's indeed important to confirm if the payment has been received by the company. Through experience in working in the bank, I have encountered quite a lot of people who didn't keep records or even bothered confirming their payment and just threw away their bill notices and later had problems.

my hubby does it for me, for himself and also for the household bills. I am quite lazy in these manners. I just cant bring myself up to punch the bills and then file them neatly. But he is a great organizer. He keeps all the bills stacked neatly in individual files and has notes at the beginning of each file on the details of the connection. Like if it is the telephone bill, he has a synopsis of when the connection was taken, in whose name is it, under which telephone exchange does it come, what is the deposit money and so on.

I have a financial program on my computer in which I put the money I get in my checking, offline savings and online savings account. I sometimes download my Paypal account information, since I cannot put any paypal money in my bank account until it is at least $20 and right now with the 50 cent deduction until I make $150 and that both Canadian and American dollars are at par, I do not include that as made money until it is downloaded. My credit card statement that is also online has categories so I know where everything is going.\
Need to say, I have an excellent free anti virus and firewall and my passwords are so complicated even I have difficulty writing them down.

Oh yes, I am a tax preparer, and a bookkeeper, and that is the essential part of our job!
Personally at home, I keep everything organized, and I keep these records for the last five years! After that I start eliminating them!
It is always a good idea to keep your receipts and any other important documents!
Every year I put the years records in one box, and I start a new one for the upcoming year!
If I ever need to refer to any document or receipt, I know exactly where it's at,because I put them in order according to the date!

Yes, I do keep a record of all my bills payments and payslips. I feel that these are very important documents and need to kept safe in case if there is any discrepancy in the future. One can always feel safe and have proof at any given point of time. I keep them all sorted out accordingly in one big folder. I keep bills only of my credit cards, bank statements, telephone bills. I do not keep bills of other things. I may do away with them once I stop using the services of the products.

I have a case which i keep upsatairs..into it i pop everything that i need to keep...but lol..when i come to look for something in particular..it takes me agaes to find it ..as i have to go through the whole case!!
I bought some folders and labelled them..utilty/pensions etc...it worked for a while..but then my plan went haywire!!
I admire folks who can be so organised as to put their finger on everything.
I just wish i could!!!

i keep power, gas, phone, anything to do with my car, computer receipts, receipts for anything expensive, pay stubs, medical bills &pharmacy bills, vet bills all in a "pocket" Calendar that they give out at a farm supply store
its a regular size calendar but each month has a big pocket on it to put your bills and other records. later on i file them separately as per phone power gas and pay stubs the rest stay in the pocket.
I was taught to keep them like that and keep them for 7 years...once every 3 years i go through and dispose of any papers i dont need to keep anymore by burning them in a fire in the garden.

Yes I keep a record of all the payments I make. it is good to keep a record of the payments we make. It will be useful for future reference. and we can also realise how much we spend at a time.
