I think that is not a vegetarian food. Milk is full and high in calcium. Like meat is also high in calcium so thats why milk and meat are the same and it is not vegetarian.

Have you heard of Soya which is the biggest protein, calcium source and its vegetarian. Also there can absolutely be no comparison between meat and milk .the one comparison thats possible is both start with the letter m and so does my name.

For me, milk is non-vegetarian product because it comes from "cow" also "beef~meat"... everything from meat is considered as non-vegetarian food. So, for vegetarian, if you are really "totally veggies mania" :
thou shall not drink milk... cow also vegetarian... joke~lol
vegetarian is ok to drink milk since its not meat itself. hehehe

Milk is vegetarian product. It's consumed by lacto-vegetarian people. Btw, the term "vegetarian " is not derived form "vegetable" but "vegetus" (latin). It means strong, vigor.

Milk is acceptable on a vegetarian diet, but not on a vegan diet. More specifically, a lacto or ovo-lacto vegetarian would consume milk.
There is a good list of definitions at the International Vegetarian Union site: www.ivu.org/faq/definitions.html

Milk is generally considered vegetarian since it's not "meat," but not vegan, since it's derived from animals.

I think milk is purely vegetarian.
Simply because milk doesn't include any form of life in it.
Apart from philosophy(that its an animal product), practically I see it as vegetarian because when it is derived from an animal (cow or goat or buffalo) there's no life in that.
While considering beaf, chicken , mutton etc these all contained life before and when produced in the form of an edible product it mandatories the killing of the animal/living being.
Hence the idea is clear. It is perfectly vegetarian product.
I think the debate should be on whether egg is vegetarian or not?

There are so many kinds of vegetarians, that milk may be fine for some and not for others.
I think that it is a product derived from an animal, but since you are not eating or harming the animal that it would be ok to drink or use if you were a vegetarian.
Maybe some true vegetarians will answer and help us out here!
