Just received my new electric bill in the mail.....

My goal was to cut our electric bill in half. Last months bill was 59.00....This months bill was 34.00. We purchased a new fridge and I'm sure that is where the most savings came from. The one the landlord gave us was old and ran all the time. We have also been turning lights out in the rooms and not using as many lights at night. I've been only washing full loads of laundry. I think this has all helped. I'm almost happy to pay my bill this month.

Well, I'm very happy for you. I almost had a heart attack when I opened my gas bill. It was $283!!! It's rediculous!!! My electric bill was $100. I hate bills. I've weather proofed this house as much as I possibly can with no luck. I think it might be time to move again soon! I wish summer would hurry up and get here!

Our gas bill was 200.00 this month and we keep our thermostat at 62 degrees in the day time and 55 degrees at night. I even turn it down to 45 degrees when we are all gone for the entire day. I used to love winter, now i just want it to be over.

62??? I'd be froze! I have to have mine at 70-72! And even then I'm still cold and I always wear a sweat shirt or sweater around the house. I think my thermostat is messed up though. I really need a new one. That might help with the bill too, I don't know.

Terrific! The new energy efficient appliances are a wonderful help. We reroofed our home and cut our electric bill in half in the winter. But this year with the wind and sub-zero, we're not doing as well as we did last year. When my washer and dryer die (Maytags-bought in 1985 and only 1 repair each, last fall), I want really good energy efficient ones. That should help us alot. Take care

Wow only one repair each on 1985's seems really good. You definitely got your money worth from these appliances. I guess the Maytag commercials were right.

Yeah, and that's with some seriously hard water (iron, tons of used up iron mines all over my area). Ray, the guy that sold them to me is still in business, he wants to sell me a couple of new ones, but he said not to expect anything to work this well and this long again.

We need to replace our bulbs with those new ones too. I'm hoping this wasn't a fluke and our bill will stay low.

Wow, I wish my electric bill was as low as yours. There was one time a few years back that it was $37.00, but that was when it wasn't too hot or too cold out so I didn't need to run the heater (wintertime) or a/c (summertime). It could have been a fluke as I tried getting it this low again during the same time of year, but with no luck. My current electric bill is over $200 and we aren't even heating up the entire house, just two of the three bedrooms. Every other room is COLD! I only do one or 2 FULL loads of laundry, though it is everyday. My electrical appliances are a few years old (with the stove being the newest), but they all work efficiently. And I turn off lights when I lam not using them. Hopefully once the weather starts to warm up my bill will be significantly lower. I hate these high electric bills.

I'm hoping this wasn't a fluke. I checked the bill twice and it says actual reading. I hope it stays this low.

Wow that is excellent lightningMD.I wish I could cutback my electric bills too but not quite much.Does unplugging appliances from the socket helped lower the consumption and your bills? Have you tried this, just wondering...

I have heard that it does help. I have not tried it yet though. Maybe that should be my next step.

Glad that you were able to reduce your electric bill. Not sure if mine will go down this month or not due to the colder weather that we have had this month. Though I am only using space heaters to heat my home, since it is only me now. I do know it would be cheaper this way than using my gas furnace that is old and heating the whole house.

Our gas furnace is old too. I'm sure it isnt very efficient. We also have no insulation in the upstairs walls. We use a kerosene heater to help warm the house on really cold days.

So how much is your gas bill running? Granted I am only heating 3 rooms since I am the only one home. My electric bill using the electric space heaters was only $121 and that was for a very cold month we had too.

congratulation dear lightningMD. you already save about 25.00 from previous month for electric bill. i trully wish that you can reduce more your electricity bill or if not stay the same at this moment. and you know, by saving energy of electricity, you can reduce your bill payment per month also participate to conserve natural resources which becoming hot issue at this moment since globar warminmg effect rising up in everywhere. at least turn off two unnecessary lamp in your home and use electricity only for your needing ;)

You have some really good ideas. And the fact that your bill was $25 less than your previous one is great! The light thing is a great idea, and so is the laundry. Also, by washing less loads of laundry, you are also saving your laundry detergent. Another saving! :)
