Oh wow I cannot believe how you felt daily knowing what a dangerous job that is, my husband is in maintance and althou he is a little safe the danger factor is always there.. It's sad that Policemen and FIreman risk there lives just as much as our Militray but we get paid so much less.

i know exactly what you mean. i dont even think military is treated as highly as they should be, just like the police and firefighters are.

Not even close and I'm not just saying that because my husband is military. They risk their lives all because they are following orders to protect our country (whether you agree with the war or not that is why they do what they do) and we pay them squat.

yes and did everyone hear they're considering giving those serving in Iraq a yearly bonus....i think it will come out to less than 1000 for a year over there...while the spouses sit in worry....

Did these service men and women sign up to be in the military? Don't get me wrong, I appreciate every freedom they fight for and hand over to use civilian's. But, they signed up for it, they most get bonus, let's not forget, the Nex, commisary, housing, insurance, VA loan's. As a tax payer, I know I don't get those benefit's. I know they put their life on the line for us, but they signed up for it. How much more money and benefit's would be enough? I am a military brat, wife, and hopefully mother but, how much more can we do, really?

United States Marine Corps - US Marine Corps emblem
after 20 of my husband being a Marine Corps it was never enough. There is not enough base housing to help out, there is not enough money at the end of the month to cover the bills. It is hard for a spouse of a service member to get a job even to help out due to moving around and the need to be home with the kids going through the hardship of the other parent not being there. I think the spouse should get an income as well since they are often left playing the role of both parents. Some people think the benefits are wonderful. I've never found a military family yet that was satisfide with the health care system of the military. It's like we get what we get. It is unreal what these men and women get paid. They are protecting our country and yet there are security guards with no training at all getting paid more. What would this country do if our men and women went on strike until they got more money. Who would speak up then? Who would be saying we stand behind you to these families? Where would this country be without our military families? I say they should be the top paid people in the world. Not only does our country depend on them but other countries as well.

No they aren't getting paid enough. End of story. They can go over to Iraq as a civilian and make upwards of $200,000 doing the same thing they do in the military. Yea, our benefits are nice, but there's a lot of people who have never had to deal with a naval doctor!!!!

absolutely not. military aren't getting paid enough. basically one can't value arm force efforts in money. They are invaluable. Secoundly they derserve much more than what they are getting now (not just in cash but also in kinds).

NO WAY! I don't see how they think military families can survive on such little income. Even with taking all the withholdings we can, we barely can keep our kitchen stocked with food!

Thank you, it needs to be said over and over again, we struggle to survive from one day to the next. Then aren't even entitled to gov't assistance because we're "military"...

I don't think they're being paid enough money. I think they're the only people that are getting less than the average working people.

I have no idea what kind of pay they get, but it surely can't be enough to put their lives on the line. I SO appreciate every military family for their sacrifice, and commitment to protect this country on a daily basis.

No way!!My father was in the Navy for 28 years and we struggled.(Of course, I never noticed)Instead of the politicians getting their pockets fatter they need to spread some money over to our military. After all, they are the ones with their lives on the line everyday not these pompous, arrogant politicians.

No way! My husband and I don't/didn't have dangerous jobs as air traffic controllers, yet the FAA pays 4+ times what the military pays. I think there should be some kind of a tax on celebrities and sports guys and that extra money should go towards military pay checks, teachers and police/firemen. I'm also tired of how the officers are treated compared to the enlisted. Both in pay and living quarters. My husband is an awesome leader and Marine and has 3 1/2 years left until he retires. He deserves the pay and such that the officers get. In fact, two houses down from us lived the base SgtMaj. He lives in the same crappy(ish) house that we live in. I said "ish" because the housing was WAY worse and dilapidated in Okinawa, Japan. Huff!

Good luck with that! My husband was stuck because we don't have any Warrant Officers in our MOS. Oh and he just got passed over for 1stSgt and MSgt the other day. He's such a great Marine too but never had a B-billet and hasn't been to Iraq yet. He's going to Iraq soon but we think this was his last chance for a promotion. Sigh.

the government could never pay these men and women enough to do what they do. My ex husband was in the army and those were some rough times finacially when he was in the military.

Of course they do not get paid enough. The hardships they face, and the hardships us family members endure, is never figured in to the amount they pay. I mean we were an equal earning family, in fact, in the states I made more than my husband working in the medical field, and now we are stationed overseas and I cannot work in my educated and trained career. So, we lose my income and have to rely on the little he makes. There is never any compensation. However, you have to know the old saying is, "we didn't tell them to get married and start families." So, we don't have the right to expect more in pay. Sad but true...those with the cushy jobs making decisions that affect our spouses get paid nicely.

HELL NO WE AIN'T! We go into a war zone, and some of us are only getting like $25000 a year. Now granted, when actually *IN* a combat zone, the money is tax free, but still, $25000??? Look at the blood-sucking politicians! They get like a 6-figure pay, and how often do they actually meet in session? Most of them already have a lot of other money coming in. Plus they get like paid, even once they're out of office! WTF's up with that? Then, they want to jerk us Vets around, by cutting funding out the wazoo! We put our lives on the line, fighting to protect our nation's way of life, only to have the very people that send us off not want to give us what we're worth! What's wrong with that?

great answer, yep tax free does not really mean crap, my husband is in iraq right now and he is onlt getting like 500.00 extra a month, all of that for working 7 days a week 8-12 hrs a day or more.. In a war zone. something is not right
