My friend sent me an email with a few tips of things I might want to know. I don't know where she got it from but I thought I would share a couple of them with you about bananas. Peel a banana from the bottom and you won't have to pick the little "stringy things" off of it. That's how the primates do it. Those little strings are annoying sometimes so I like that tip. Do you? Here is the other one. Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster. I didn't know that did you? I have always liked leavig them attached in a bowl on my counter but now I will pull them apart and see how true this is. Will you be giving it a try?

Well that is a first. I have never seen nor heard of anyone peelaing their banana this way. I will have to do it the next time I buy bananas for sure.

Good tips! I usually only buy a few bananas at a time so they don't get overripe before I can finish them. Here's another one I've found- if you keep them in the fridge they get brown a lot faster, so now I always leave my bananas out on the counter and they last longer.

Bananas are an interesting fruit. There are many old wives tales about them, some true, some not. Here are some I've heard:
Put a banana with other fruits you want to ripen quickly. True - Bananas release a natural ripening agent, ask any greengrocer how they store their bananas and why.
Bananas are a good substitute for meat - False - bananas cannot replace protiens found in meat
Banana eaters will be bitten more by mozzies- True - I dont know why but It seems to be true, i used to get bitten all the time.

Those are interesting tips about banana's that I did not know. I have always kept them bunched together after I get them home from the store. I will try peeling the banana from the bottom next time I pick up one of my banana's. Very interesting and useful information. Thanks for the posting.
