How would you handle fame, especially if unexpected?

The recent news about Heath Ledger's death has made me think about fame, and its possible drawbacks: I don't know the reasons of Heath's passing away, but it maybe that his being quite famous had a consistent role in what happened. Now my question is: would you rather prefer to be famous and rich, but suffering the lack of privacy and the hard feeling of "being considered" only for what you "have" (instead of "what you are", or you'd rather prefer to have a simple life, without "glory" and "wealth" but, probably, with much more attention payed to the real "insides" of existence? Is fame (most likely) a positive aspect, or are disadvantages more relevant? And would you pursuit fame regardless of any possible consequence on your intimate life?
Please share your opinion (mine is quite clear, unknown forever! :-)

I am thankful I am not a celebrity.I cannot handle fame.I don't like people messing with my personal life and privacy like it's their own business.I want to do regular things like shopping or grabbing a cup of coffee simpler.I don't want cameras flashing in my face every time I go out.

I would make sure to stay an individual, and to not sell out to the factors of money. As far as personalities go I think that many of the most successful artists are tose who are constantly trying to reimage themselves and evolve.

I think I would relish it for the first 15 minutes and then I would hate it. I think I would have to hire someone to collect money from people that want to speak with me. Eventually people would get sick of paying and go away. But I'd still have the money. And being rich is better than being famous anyway.
