Do you know the tricks to cut the onions?

Cutting onions was a headache for me. In the past I wore the sunglasses but later I was still crying when I cut the onions. Later I learned that you could just cut the onions in the water and therefore you won't cry. Do you have any better ideas?

I was told once you could stick a piece of bread in your mouth, I guess to catch the juices but I never tried it. I have a mini chopper so I don't mess with onions anymore I just pop it in and chop away.

I heard rock salt will help, but i haven't tried it yet, and I agree also that not all onions made you cry. Maybe if you cut alot of onions and spend for 15 -30 mins maybe that is the time that tears will flow.

Just peel the onions, whenever you get time, put them in the refrigerator. When you want to use take it out and chop it or slice it. Tears will not come. I always do like this as we Indians need more onions for everything.. If you need it immediately then cut them into two and immerse them in water. After sometime slice or chop it. You can rest assured that tears will not come.

The trick in cutting onions is to get someone else to do it for you! I have been told that if you run cold water when you are cutting up an onion it works, I've tried that, sadly it didn't work for me, I wonder if you have to run the onion under the cold water whilst you are doing it. I love onions too much otherwise I wouldn't bother with them.

Hey my friend told me a trick and I tried and it really works. It's really simple! Just open your mouth and breathe through your mouth when you are cutting the onions. At first I thought it sounded too easy and crazy but when I try, it works nicely.

This is one of the things that I hate about onions. I love the taste of fresh onions in salads and dishes. But, I am not a fan of the actual preparing of the onion. To bad you can not buy them already prepared. I was told to run it under cold water. I have been told to also cut only one end of. But,nothing works too good. I think the best way is to get a super sharp knife and to cut it as fast as safely possible.

As fully qualified chef, I'll let you in on the secret. Cut the top off. Slice in half from top to bottom, turn flat side down on the chopping board. slice or chop as required. The reason people cry is because of the juices that are released when the blub area at the base of the onion is cut. By leaving the base as intact as possible, this reduces the amount of juices that are released. It also keeps the onion "together" when you chop it and gives you something to hold on to when you are chopping it up - no more cut fingers. Just remember not to cut into the last cm or so of the onion when cutting it up. I've cut hundreds, if not thousands, of onions and never cried. Try it.

There are many little tricks you get told, I am terrible when cutting onions, I have been told many things, even putting a match in your mouth, for me it didn't work. I bought myself a cutter where you cut the onions in to say quaters put then in this glass containee then put the chopper on the top then pump the chopper and it chops them up....

I know I hate cutting onions. What I do is peel the onion then run it under cold water for a bit. Then chop as usual. It helps alittle.

Onions do not usually bother me when chopping them. I have heard that placing them in the freezer for a few minutes before chopping them helps, but I have not tried it myself.

I read somewhere that if you put an onion in the fridge for a few minutes before slicing it helps with the tears. I have never tried it though. I usually buy sweet onions ans they do not make my eyes water.

actually i am the chef at my house and i can cut all the vegetables except onions. so my style is that i peel the outer layers of onions under running water then rinse it properly and then cut it quickly into the desired slices. i guess this is the best ida
