I want to make money but I'm not going to bombard friends, bulletin boards and forums trying to get referrals.
I'd love some legitimate, honest work in which I don't have to accept trial offers and remember to cancel them, sign up for surveys and then get survey offers only to find out I don't qualify.
Mostly, though -- I'm not gonna beg everybody I know and don't know to join me. I also don't trust those sites after some of the posts I've read on this site.

Joyce- If you enjoy crafts. Etsy.com is a great site where you can sell your items. I make jewelry, knit scarves/hats and make polymer clay creations and have found a bit of success selling my items there.
A listing last 4 months, costs .20 cents and you can get to includ 5 pictures with each listing.
They have a promotion forum, where you can add your item to an ongoing thread (by cutting and pasting the link) and quite often buyers have found my items this way.
I think it's a great site and there's a wonderful community of talented artisians there. If you haven't check it out, you should take a quick look. I think it's awesome.

I did a discussion about people who bombard everyone with their referral links, either in PMs to me or placing their referral money making scheme in my comments section....it infuriates me no end. I did a quick check on your profile and see you were "zapped" by the same person who had done the same to me...like this one doesn't know when to quit..I've notice her link on all my other friends profile pages as well....As a so-called friend she's never participated in any of my discussions, but she seems to have time to leave her referral link everywhere. I have to admit I do have a few "links" to some of the places I participate in, like Associated Content, MyPowerMall, etc..but they're on my page...I don't go or would have the nerve to post links on friends profile pages or PM them--if people are interested in what I have to offer then they can look at my page...but I'm not about to harass my friends or sink so low as some who do post their links all over the place. Besides...I thought it was against MyLot policies to do this

Yeesh,...you're right...I just checked out her profile...none of her discussions she's started is "younger" than a year ago, and the discussions she's replied to are about 4 months old, yet she just logged in 2 hours ago...curioser and curioser LOL

I was reading MyLot policies, but I guess it takes the gremlins awhile to zap those policy breakers.
That's another thing, I do not see her participating in any area.
Thanks for your response, pye.

Like you, I am not into badgering people into referrals, I have two (inactive) referrals on MyLot, I have mentioned MyLot on a blog, but I wouldn't stoop to the level of trying to say that it was a great way to make money because it blatantly isn't... I do enjoy participating, but I wouldn't bother if it were just for the money - hence how could I honestly promote it as a 'make money' service knowing that it takes a lot of work just to make a dollar?
I have written an article on make money scam sites here:
http://www.livewyre.net/internet_scams.php
(there are two pages)
Also feel free to browse the site as there are articles on legitimate make money online methods.

Personally I've found that most of the money to be made online is not in the form of "easy" things to do. My husband and I made a decent living for a while doing phone sales work (inbound NOT outbound) off the internet for a while. There is money in that, much more like a regular job.
The other thing would be to find something to either buy/resell or make/sell on ebay/amazon/your own website. Personally I buy used books to resell, its not a lot of money on a small scale but if I had more time to put into it, I'm sure it would make more. I know of people who have created full time incomes reselling different things online.
It really just depends on what you're willing to do, and what you're looking for. However, I do agree that most of the Pay for "xxxxxx" sites won't leave you making much but spending money (the reason I'm here, besides I just enjoy it).

Thanks so much for your feedback. You've given me some food for thought.

Wow, from your name I'd say you crochet. I like to write, too, and think the Paid-to-Write sites are wonderful, because they get me in the mood to write and also pay royalties, which although they are not huge, are fun. My favorite one is Triond because it doesn't even have referrals, so there is no bugging friends and family! I made about $400 this year on survey sites. Some of them are legit, but one has to avoid the scam ones. Good luck!

Yes, that is why I like Triond, actually, but since you write on Helium, too, I am curious. I have seen other Triond writers recommend that after Triond publishes an article it is OK for the writer to submit the exact same article to Helium, and others suggest doing a bit of a rewrite. Since you mention it, do you know if it is against Triond's terms to republish something elsewhere once they have already accepted it?

you'll need to look at Triond's terms and conditions. I don't recall if you're giving them exclusive publishing rights. I sure hope not!

Thank you for your thoughts. I have published on Triond and Helium. I'm going to go to Associated Content now. Triond insists that the writing be totally original (unpublished anywhere else).
I'm glad to hear you've been successful on survey sites.

I'm a professional. I need assistance in my projects. Work is simple. So, you can't expect a huge payout. I need some information to be collected from the internet. Knowledge in excel is a must. If you're interested respond.

IVE A NASTY FEELING legitimate earning oppertunities on the internet are a thing of the past. Like you, i refuse to get others involved in som ething just because i want more money. I totally agree with you... i so hate it when we have to get referrals and do surveys that in the long run would say that i don't qualify... that is why i stopped doing them and opted to just stay here in mylot... i don't go around the internet looking for referrals... i just do it on my own... and i love it...
There are so many scam sites out there so just like in the real world... the web is no longer a safe place to be in on your own...

Making money versus being foolish. Like you said, too many scam sites.
It's not enough to pay my bills, but mylot is the greatest as far as making money while doing something I'm going to do anyway.

Definitely be cautious when signing up. I could never remember to cancel trial offers. So, I do not even attempt. I have found a few suvrey sites that I like. I have recently received two checks for surveys. The total is $55.00. So, no its not enough to pay my bills. But, its enough for my husband and I to go to dinner or to take the kids shipping for a toy. If you want, I can send you the site. Its not one that I would get a "referral" for. But, I really like it. They send several attempts at surveys a day. Some you get 1.00 for others .50 or 3.00. There have been a couple of times I Received 5.00 for a survey as well

I have never and never will "shop around" for referrals. My feeling is that if I can't do it on my own then I didn't earn the money myself and had to rely on others. I don't join any site where the earnings are basically by how many referrals I can bring in.

I think making money from others' efforts is okay. I'm not willing to "shop around" (bug people) either.

That's a very honest way of going about it. It's really no use hustling a friend into something they dont want to do or wont do it unless you requested him to do so. Making money online almost always leads you to scam sites and one needs to be careful about it as well. Thankfully this one is good. But there's absolutely no need to go running after everybody to make them join it. Well said!! :)

I agree Joyce with your first post. Ive tried various ways to make money from home and always ended up feeling tacky when I bombarded everyone ...
I too hope to find a way to earn extra income online without turning everyone away (from me!)
