Everyone in my home has a cell phone exept my 12 year old son. So I was thinking if I put him on my cell phone plan and cut of my house phone I will save $30 per month on my monthly bills. So I was thinking with everyone have cell phones now, how many people still have a regular house phone?

Before you cancel your landline, find out if your local 911 can trace cell phone locations. Not a lot of places can do this; it requires special equipment. If they can't trace cell phones, then having a landline is an important emergency backup.
As it happens I still have a regular house phone, but that's because my broadband access is DSL. If your broadband is via cable modem, then the landline's main function can be emergency calls.

If you have the phone through your high speed internet and call 911 off of that, it won't show up when you call 911 as a physical address. It'll come up as unknown.
My best friend is a dispatcher for the fire department. The other weekend, a woman with Vonage called 911 and the dispatcher kept asking her what her address was and she was so hysterical over her emergency, she couldn't think of it and due to her Vonage service, it did not show up.
With cell phones, sometimes it'll patch you through to the 911 center where your phone number is. For instance, my sister has a cell phone number out of Little Rock, AR but she lives in Russelville, AR so if she calls 911 she has to be tansferred to Russelville.
It's no big thing if you have the actual emergency number other than 911 entered into your cell phone.

I have a cellphone and a land line (telephone) as well, we have them for emergency use and if ever we want to contact some of our friends or relatives with no cellphones.
Here in my country, we can choose plan or either pre-paid. Most of the cellphone user's chose pre-paid since that's cheaper than paying monthly bills, because most of us only use it for texting/SMS sending.

yes, i still maintain a house/landline phone on top of my mobile phone. Actually i prefer to use the landline more because i can talk to friends and relatives on a "talk all you want" basis at a very cheap flat rate as offered by the telephone company. I only use my cell phone for texting and for those calls when i'm out of the house.

I only use a cell phone also. My husband and I both have one so I really see no point to having a house phone. The cell phone picks up just the same here as a house phone so why waste the money. I just really need to find a cheaper plan for us.

We have both cell phones and a land line. I use my cell phone when I am not home but if I'm home I use my land line. Personally I have a great plan on my land line that is 33 a month and that includes long distance. I talk long distance a lot due to my family living in FL and me in PA. I also use my land line for my Mary Kay business.

I have given up on the land line a long long time ago.
Every one in my home has his or her own handphone.
Everyone is always using their own handphone by default.
So my land line was always collecting dust. And it is silly to be paying a fee just to let the phone collect dust.
So I canceled it and have never looked back since.

I have only cellphone when I'm living in my apartment. I travel a lot and it saves me money because I know that I will rarely use it. And i also don't have to deal with missed (unknown) calls and answering machines.

I keep a regular house phone because I have vonage and it's free long distance I don't have to worry about going over on plans and I don't have to worry about what is a roaming or not call I use my cell phone very little except when I'm out of the house and I have it transferred from my home to my cell. I think that I like having a land line and a moving line. LOL!! Have a nice day.

I am the only one in my family that has a cell phone. I have been wanting my hubby to get one for emergencies but he says he hardly uses one now so why should he get one? umm incase i need to call him for something LOL so we have one cell phone and a landline. We use the landline mostly for receiving messages and making local calls. I mostly use my cellphone for emergencies or if I really need to make a call. Most of the time its our landline.
I think its a good idea to get your 12 year old a cell and then cut your landline, especially if you don't use it that much.

Everyone in my house has a cell phone, but they are only used for outside the house. At home we use the house phone to call people and when any of us goes out we take our cell phones.

I haven't had a "land" line in almost three years. We are all cell phone users here, I couldn't see paying two phone bills! Saved about $40 dollars a month, as well as eliminating those pesty "local-long distance calls" (you know the ones that weren't quite long distance, but say out of the city you were calling from?)

I have both. Yes, like all of you... I LOVE MY CELL PHONE, and probably wouldn't be alive without it (lol)!
However, I am extremely glad I have my landline. My landline is connected to my home security system. If someone were to cut the wires (on my outside phone line), police would come. If there is an interruption in service, same deal...
Also, when we had a cable interruption last month, I wouldn't have been able to get anything on television. But... since my computer is cross-connected to my landline (you know... gotta get those faxes...), I was able to access a dial-up connection and watch some of my favorite shows! It was a complete back-up for my broadband going out!.
Faxes are another thing my landline provides well for me. Cell phones won't take a fax. I save trips to local companies, the school district, etc. by "faxing" them signature papers. It also helps with home-based employment. I couldn't do without it!
Yes, you could save money if you cancel your landline, but you can save money without cancelling it, as well. Call your phone company and decrease your plan. Since I don't use it that much (to make calls), I have a limited plan. Long distance is blocked, 411 calls are blocked (except the 2 free calls each month!), and I have no "extra services" on my landline. This costs me around $25 with taxes, city fees, and all of the other junk. It is well worth the cost.
But then again... it is whatever works for you. But think about it. When your cell phone goes "kaput" and the replacement from the company isn't coming quickly, if you keep your landline at an inexpensive plan, at least you have a back up! It's always nice (and secure, too!) to have a back-up plan.
