A lot of people are doing that nowadays. we have too cell phones and a regular house phone I am thinking of getting rid of house phone and use cell phones. because we are not being charged if it is a local call you know how you get so many mins, well if you use the cell phone, and make local calls we are not being charged for mins, as long as the other person have AT&T. plus long distance after 9:00pm, and free long distance on the week end, I think we should get rid of our house phone we will save money if we did.

I agree with you! I don't see any use for a house phone anymore!
They are just too stationary, for this lifestyle!
A cell phone is just too versatile as far as getting things done, on the move, on the go, anywhere you are!
Sometimes I think a cell phone is cheaper on rates than the house phone is!

My son has wireless internet, and he doesn't have any problem with it! I think the difference is gonna be in the price, it's more expensive to have!

I hardly ever use my house phone because I am always online and have dialup. I don't like talking on the phone anyway. I do have a prepaid cell phone to use to text my husband while he is at work. I only use the phone if I have to call businesses or something like that. I use a calling card for my long distance calls if I ever have to make them.
I think you would be wise to get rid of the house phone also. You would definitely save money.

I have Netscape. It is dialup. It costs $6.95 a month, plus I have a phone bill for $35.00 a month. I also pay $20.00 a month for my cell phone because I only use it to text with and the minutes last me about a month. I have a prepaid cell phone to use to text my husband while he is away so we don't have to call and waist alot of extra minutes. Texting is alot cheaper. My home phone is only used for the internet and to make business calls.
I'm confused as to what your question is, LOL. Sorry.

As I am on dial up I need a land line. My husband and I rarely use our house phone to make phone calls as we mainly use it for Internet service. My husband uses his cell phone for business and to keep in touch with me. We use my cell phone for almost all other calls, except long distance. As my plan isn't set up for long distance calling it eats up the minutes and costs a fortune. So long distance calls are made with the home phone instead.

I have long-distance on my cell-phones after 9:00pm, and on weerk-ends. I had them on the phone but I took it off, why have it for both, hat was extra money.

I have a cell and a land line. I have to keep the land line because right now all I have is dial up to connect to the internet. I'd like to find away around not having a land line, but for the moment I don't see any way around it.

I do have a wireless card in my desktop, but you have to be able to pick up a connection from someone that has wireless service, and there isn't anyone that close enough to me for that to work. I did have it working for about a month, and I think I was picking up a connection from my neighbor, but they must have their settings set different and I can no longer pick up a connection.

I use my cellular phone instead of my house phone for the very simple practicality of it. First I am not home more than fifty percent of the time so to have a house phone right there is practical. Also, I prefer the cell phone because when I am not in the mood to talk to people I can then just turn it off and not have to deal with people at all (as pesimestic as that sounds). I aswell do a lot of traveling so of course that is also beneficial. The main and best reason for having a cell phone over a home phone has presented itself recently though. The relationship I am in got fairly serious a couple of months ago and though we are currently planning to move in with each other we have not done it yet so now I am away from my home for days at a time so no one would have been able to get a hold of me at all which I think has been the best of the entire cell phone only senerio.

Yes, if I were to choose then of course I still choose the cell phone. It’s more convenient than landlines you know. You can carry it wherever you go. Though there are wireless landlines these days but cell phones are more portable than those obviously.

I would recommend thinking about it very carefully! I haven't had a house phone since living where I am now and I didn't in another place for a while. It is good because it's one less bill to pay but sometimes I do wish we had one, sometimes just for silly things like there might be a freephone number to contact a company but it costs from a mobile or something like that. I only have a Pay as you go but my partner has a contract phone which has probably been better for him than a house phone because everything is included in one price. There are also things such as applying for loans where you have to give a home phone number. There have been a few times when we haven't been able to do things like that just because we don't have a home phone.
I'm not trying to discourage you from getting rid of your house phone, just suggesting a few practicalities to consider before you do.

We have an internet service which doesn't require a house phone. I know most of them do but you could see if there is one that doesn't if that's the only thing stopping you.

I get rid of my house phone 3 years ago...I don't miss it at all...
I was paying for telemarketers to leave me messages on my answering machine...when not at home...
Plus, I paid 0.15/min if I call my friend who lives in the same town (over 15 miles away)...so overall I paid mostly monthly usage plus maybe 2 phone calls made per month...

We were using cell phones after our move here. Well, my plan gives me about 900 anytime minutes, and after running over for two months, I got a house phone along with my internet lines and cable. The phone costs be about $13.00 a month with all the taxes etc. A little more expense, but I can make unlimited local calls now.

I used to have a house phone, but gave it up. I really don't need a house phone as I live alone. I have a really good plan with Sprint. 300 free outgoing minutes. Totally Free Incoming minutes anytime day or night 24/7. I can talk as long as I like! Free long distance. Free outgoing at 7pm. And free minutes on the weekends. I really can't beat this plan.

we ditched our house phone years ago. considering that nobody's home during daytime, it's more convenient if people would just call to us directly instead of calling at home.
local telcos here in fact are desperate to bring back their customers by offering flat-rate, wireless landlines(haven't they heard of cellphones?) free calls, etc.

no... i have a desktop at home, which is hooked up to the internet. telcos here offer internet only packages. you can also tap broadband internet from cable companies if they support it.

We used to have a house phone through Vonage. We also each had a cell phone. we had different cell phone providers though. Recently we switched to T-Mobile and went on the family share plan. We share 700 minutes, plus we each have 5 people that we can call for free.
He usually uses most of those talking to work people, I don't normally call more than 5 people. I talk to everyone else over the internet or not for very long on the phone. It works well for us.
The house phone just wasn't worth it anymore.

I have both cell and a home phone. I couldn't get rid of my house phone, I get my internet through it. I have Verizon for cell, so any of my friends and family that have Verizon doesn't take away any minutes. Huh? I don't get charged for any local calls with my house phone, anyone within my area code is free. I have Alltel, so maybe that's the difference there. I know my one Dr is a half hour drive from me, yet he's a local call because he's got the same area code. I doubt that I'd get rid of my house phone, just because of the internet (even though all I can get for now is dial up lol) Yeah, I'll bet you'd save a lot of money just sticking with the cell.

No I do not. I only use my cell phone for emergencies that is why I have a no contract flat rate cell phone which only costs me $10.00 a month.

We have a house phone and I have a cell phone. In Canada, we are allowed so many free minutes, I think it is 150 or so up to the evening that starts at six, and we get the weekends free. If I phone someone who deals with the same cell phone company, I am not charged for that nor is he charged for calling me during weekdays.
However we have a digital house phone and with that we get caller id free and we also can make free long distance calls to the States and we have a discounted rate to the U.K. and since Canada thinks that East Indians are so wonderful, to India as well.

Yes, you should do that. Thats another expense. We also cut off our house phone and we stick with our cell phones. Anyway, in our case, we were always out of the house and no one is there so no need of a house phone.
