I have decided I am afraid of food. I am 48 years old and I have had a weight problem my entire life. I guess that is true since it was when I was about 8 years old that I heard my aunt say to my mother she's the fat one! I look back at the picture that was taken that day and I think to myself what the heck was she talking about and I look at myself today and say she must of been right. I have lost and I have gained many many times through the years. Right now I am afraid to eat I can not bare to gain another pound. Does anyone else feel this way?

I am sorry that you are afraid of food. Please don't starve yourself though. Maybe you can find healthy alternative to your favorite fatty foods. Instead of a fried chicken do grilled chicken. Don't go to fast food places..a.k.a. mcdonalds. Eat grapefruit or drink it, that helps burn up your fat in your system, then drink plenty of water. Then maybe at night or early morning walk around your neighborhood for a quick way to help burn up some of the calories you eat throughout the day. What can also help keep a calorie diary. Write down what you don't want to go over. Ex: 2000 calories. Then write down what you eat and how many calories and just keep adding what you eat up until you reach 2000 and then don't eat anymore that day. Just some suggestions!

Writing it down is a good idea. I never thought of that but maybe it will help as sometimes seeing is believing. It sure would be hard to be in denial of the amount I eat wouldn't it.

oh dear, so sorry to hear about this. personally i must say that i love food. i guess i try to eat healthily, and don't overeat, so the rule is to stop when you are 70% full, and not when you are 100% full like every meal is a buffet spread.
i think you have to start thinking of food as your friend, as food as what nourishes you, gives you strong bones and great silky hair instead of just adding pounds. We all need food. jus perhaps less oily deep fried food.
do take care.

I know your right. I realize I am in a bad state of mind right now and have to be careful so it doesn't take over me. For the past few days I am thinking that food is my enemy and this is wrong. I do not want to trade one problem for another. I just have to get a grip. I like what you said about not eating until I am 100 percent full.

I wouldn't worry about gaining but focus on staying healthy.
I don't have the best eating habits since I'm not hungry at normal times of the day or evening. I generally eat one meal a day and that's not good at all but don't want to force myself to eat if I'm not hungry. Don't believe I have a problem with it because weight gain is not a problem. Have always been thin and right now am very happy with my weight. For my age, I am right where I should be and hope to remain at this weight for a long time.
Do you exercise and watch what you eat?

I do watch what I eat and it is mostly healthy but it is that I eat to much for the amount of activity I do. I just hate to break a sweat. I tend to be a low energy person so I have to eat less to accomidate that life style I guess. Really I have no one to blame for this but myself. You would think if I had this problem sense I was a child I would be mature about it and have it under control now.

Good for you. I guess if you love food to much then that is a good way to look at it.

I'am not afraid of food.It usually depends on your genes and the metabolism you have. If you have fat genes, most likely you will become fat too. But if your genes are skinny you will be skinny too. Now, if your metabolism is fast, most likely you will become either skinny or medium built body. But if your metabolism is slow, almost everything of the food will be absorbed by your body.
What you eat is what you are,as they would say. But i disagree with it because I know for myself that i can eat lots of foods specially fatty foods. But look at me now i am not fat.
So, i therefore conclude that it really depends on your genes and metabolism.

I believe that too. When I was a teenagers I would eat the same as my friends at least I would think so. Then come a monday morning when I weighed myself I had gained 5 pounds over a weekend and they were the same or less. I know I retained some water but not 5 pds. My body as always had a water retention problem but hey how much water can a body hold. LOL I could never blame my weight on water not even back then. But I do know my metabolisim is a bit slower and I don't burn food fast and I need to eat accordingly for sure. I guess I am addicted!

Okay so what does hftbn actually mean? I notice you have 7 behind your name so that tells me you must be new to myLot. Did you read the guidelines for this community? You can get booted off for leaving one word comments. If you have not read the guidelines then you might want to do that because this is a great community for making a few bucks and friends; I am sure you don't want to get booted off.

Oh no, I'm so sorry you are feeling this way. Don't be afraid of food because we all need it to survive. Maybe you could see a dietician and let them help you make out some kind of plan and you stick to it.

i am really concerned about you being afraid of food! You have to have food, but it's the quality of food that you eat! You will not (unless medical issues) gain weight with a proper diet & exercise/fresh air! Sedentary life-styles, lead to eating "junk" because you are bored!
I once had a Doctor whom told me that you never see "fat" wild animals. They listen to the tune of their bodies, and eat only when hungry.
I live on a small island, where there is absolutely NO fast food available. Have done so for 28 years. Now when I take the ferry & go to the nearest "Metro" centre, I will sometimes give-in to fast food, only to find myself quite ill, shortly thereafter. Could be mind-set, cuz I know that it is bad for me.
Please don't be afraid of food......just processed, junk food!

Thank you for your concern. I appreciate that! When I saw it said you lived on a small island I was picturing it was it the hot hot tropics some where. It isn't but I am sure it is just as beautiful. Canada has many beautiful little islands to live on. I sure wouldn't mind living on one of them myself.

I am sorry to hear that you are afraid of food.
It sounds as though you are very much afraid of gaining weight.
Perhaps you might want to consider stocking your home with foods that are low in calories, so that if you are tempted to eat alot, you won't be eating fattening foods?
I think it is always helpful to be in a support group with others who have weight problems.
Good luck to you!
You are not alone. A great many people have problems with their weight.

I am so shy around people I just dread having to go to a group but maybe I have to. I obviously can not do this on my own.

I am not totally a junk food eater. I do eat mostly the healthy foods. My problem is I eat to much and I don't exercise or do much of anything to burn off the extra I eat. This does have to change I know.
