Hey guys (mylotters),
These days, I have got interest in doing medical transcription course. I am a very good typist, but, I am a bit scared to do the course. Is there anyone out there who has done this course or worked in this line? How is the course like? Do we need to learn lots of medical terms? Is it really tough? Can anyone give me full details about medical transcription.

I know the value of medical transcriptions because most of my friends joined that course and they finished so they got jobs immediately so it is very useful course no need to worry in the initial stage because they can teach you in good way.

The medical transcription course I am taking through the US Career Institute is a very good one. You do have to learn a lot of medical terms but they give you a lot of materials and learning procedures to go through. When I have followed their recommended learning procedures I have not had a bit of trouble learning the material. It has been an enjoyable experience for me. I started the course in Februrary 2008 and should be finished by the end of May.
You can order the course and look it over for several days within which time if you decide it is not for you you can send it back for a refund. One of the best things is you can get the course sent to you for $5 and then pay the $49 a month until your tuition is paid off, no finance charges, interest or anything. Good luck.

I took a course through careerstep.com and it was great. You do need to learn medical terminology as well as other things. Their site has a description of what is offered. There are some really good schools online, but also some bad ones. So be sure to research all of them so you don't waste your time or money.

Hi villagebrat,
I have checked careerstep.com site but I learnt that it is available only for US residents. I am quite disappointed. Singapore doesn't have good MT schools, so I've decided to do it online. Can you please recommend me really good that accepts international students plus that gives placement as well. By the way, how much does it cost to do the MT course? Is it really really tough? Is there a good scope? Thanks for your help

thanks a lot
by luck tomorrow or day after i am going to undertake a training at a MT center. i think a person to person training is the best. though some online training is also available.
on my inquiry learnt that course is of 4 months, 4 hours each day. the fees are Rs 15000/- ( Rs 40 = 1$ )
i am seriously interested , and i shall join the course. it is very remunerative so far my i have inquired.
yes it should be tedious , learning the medical technologies, it is for serious workers , but with the working knowledge of typing and computer and net working , it should be some what easy, i expect.

Thanks for your response. The fee is so cheap in India!! I thought it would be a very huge amount. Anyways, I will find out more with Singapore medical transcription course. As you said, I too prefer to be trained person to person; it is better.

I almost worked with an MT company but I refused because I'd have to be in the graveyard shift and I was pregnant at that time. You really have to learn a lot of medical terms, especially abbreviations and acronyms because you have to transcribe it in its full version. You will also undergo grammar lessons especially restating phrases or commands into a statement. It's a tough job that needs good listening skill since you will be listening to sound files and then write it down in a manner that most people would understand.
For full details of the course, you can try surfing the internet. I think the courses/subjects offered would depend on what you finished. If it is an medicine allied course, you will be focusing more in developing your listening and writing skills.
