After a long strained reading mostly I have severe headache but rarely it lasts too long, but after I had consulted with a doctor it is known that I have to have good relaxation methods adopted after reading or just avoid continuous reading. Any other methods to share

Hi,
Just give some rest to your brain or just give relaxation. I home it might be because over functioning of brain a rest for brain and head is most needed while head ache in normal case. If not stopped better consult with neurologist.

METHODS TO AVOID HEADACHE
The following self-care measures will relieve your headache
1.- Make healthy lifestyle choices
a.- eat healthy foods
- do not skip meals - especially breakfast
b.- exercise regularly
- during physical activity, your body releases certain chemicals that block pain signals to your brain
- if your doctor agrees, choose any exercise you enjoy
- walking, swimming and cycling are often good choices
- but it is important to start slowly
- exercising too vigorously can trigger some types of headaches
c.- get enough sleep
- wake up and go to bed at the same time every day - even on weekends
- relax before you go to bed
- if you don't fall asleep within 15 minutes, get up
- read or do another quiet activity until you become drowsy
- keep in mind that medications that contain caffeine or other stimulants, including some headache medications, may interfere with sleep
d.- avoid excess caffeine
- sometimes caffeine helps curb headaches
- in fact, many headache medications contain caffeine
- but heavy daily caffeine use - more than 600 mgs of caffeine a day, or about 4 to 7 cups of coffee - can cause headaches and irritability
.....................................................
2.- Keep stress under control
a.- simplify your life
- rather than looking for ways to squeeze more activities or chores into the day, find a way to leave some things out
b.- manage your time wisely
- update your to-do list every day - both at work and at home
- delegate what you can, and break large projects into manageable chunks
c.- take a break
- if you feel overwhelmed, a few slow stretches or a quick walk may renew your energy for the task at hand
d.- adjust your attitude
- stay positive
- if you find yourself thinking, "This can't be done," switch gears
- think instead, "This will be tough. But I can make it work."e.- let go
- don't worry about things you can't control
.....................................................
3.- Ease muscle tension
- if you're feeling tense, apply heat or ice to soothe sore neck and shouder muscles
a.- use a heating pad set on low, a hot-water bottle, a warm compress or a hot towel. A hot bath or shower may help, too
b.- if you'd rather use ice, wrap the ice pack in a cloth to protect your skin
c.- massage also can relieve muscle tension - and sometimes headache pain
- gently massage your temples, scalp, neck and shoulders with your fingertips
or
- ask someone else to do the honors
.....................................................
4.- Relax
a.- take time to unwind every day. Try this deep-breathing exercise
- lie down on your back or sit comfortably with your feet flat on the floor
- rest one hand on your abdomen and one hand on your chest. this will help you feel the natural movements of your breathing
- inhale through your nose or mouth while pushing out your abdominal muscles
- slowly exhale while gently relaxing your abdomen
b.- it also may help to consciously relax your muscles, one group at a time. When you're done, sit quietly for a minute or two.

Hi Deepa333, my worst headaches are those I have at night, where I am trying to sleep. I do not want to take tablets. Then I give up and go looking for the tablets, but I find that I have no paracetmol. Then the tension induced headache gets worse.
On these occasions I have a number of routines. I drink a cup of tea withz sugar and eat chocolate. Then I try to take my mind off the headache by watching TV. If that does not work, then I will have a shower and go back to bed. I may also do some yoga. Usually these routines work for me, although there was one occasion last year where nothing worked and I had to wait until the chemists opened the next morning, so I could get something... Have a good weekend. Umart

I find that listening to my favorite classical music
will help me to relax and not have a stress headache.
I usually listen to Mozart mixed in with a little'
haydn and Beethoven. these pieces relax me and
unstress me and any headache pain is well gone. I just
then enjoy my music and later may read a bit. lol.
