Basically driving while drinking is dangerous. Nowadays, vehicular accident are not only caused by alcohol drinking but by some other factors. One of which is using the mobile phone while driving a vehicle. Do you drive and use your phone? Or do pull over beside the road once you use your phone?

I am constantly on the phone in the car. I grew up doing it and unfortunately it is a bad habit that is hard to break, like biting your nails. In fact, I think that most of the time I am on the phone is when I am in the car. Its the only time I have to catch up with people while doing something else... seems unsafe now that I thinka about it. I see a lot of other people, now though, who pull over to the side of the road to talk on their phones. Even more people have those crazy head set things- take them off if you aren't on the phone, people! You aren't a customer service representative while you're shopping at the mall.

Well people have their way of doing things. Some might look at it as irritating like what you said, the head set thing. It might be uncomfortable for us to look at but probably practical to other people. Thanks for your thoughts.

I have seen here in my country, people have their headsets on and walk across the road talking to someone or listening to songs. They can't hear the cars honking their horns behind them. There are many cases of students getting hit by speeding trains, who were either talking or listening. They couldn't hear the speeding train coming behind them because of the headsets. No one ever seems to learn from these.

Here in Europe, it is not allowed to use your cellphone while you are driving. if the police catch you, you need to pay a lot for this. So better not to use it or just pull over beside the road if there is a phone call in the cellular.

It's nice to hear from you. Actually I was in Belgium once. I had my training in Netherlands for a month and did a quick tour in Brussels, I just wasn't able to ask if using cellphone was illegal since when I was there, I was not the one driving. Obviously, its very dangerous to drive and use the cellphone in countries such as yours since the cars runs so fast and a little distraction could cause catastrophic effect.

Actually, using cell phone while driving is not legal in China and maybe some other countries. As it can cause serious accidents. No matter what we are doing,we should pay our full attention on it,especially when we are driving. We should be responsible for both our security and our family.

I often avoid talking on cell phone while driving. But if I think the call is important then only I receive the call. That also I stop the car and answer the call. Actually the driving rules here are very strict ur licence can be taken up by police if they found u talking while driving.

Same here, I do answer phone calls when I'm driving most especially if the call is very important. The only difference is, in our country, the law is not very strict in using the phone while your driving.

I have a mobile but do not drive the car.. But have seen many doing it. Worse still is riding a bike and talking over the mobile. I can see their necks bent and strain to hear the voice at the other end. Their head will be at an angle, they cannot even see the road properly. It is very dangerous to ride like that. Don't you all think so?

It's worst here in our country. I don't know if your heard about it, our country is the text capital of the world. I have seen people driving and still have time to text. Really amazing but absolutely dangerous.

Yes they really do it. In fact they can converse with you while there hand is texting. You had the same reaction to a friend of mine who visited me here. He saw people texting while conversing with him.... God, how are you able to do that, that's what he said.

Sadly... yes I talk while driving... but funny... i think I concentrate more on driving when I am on the phone then when I am not... only because i know I have to pay attention...if I am not talking I feel I am looking for something else to do or fiddling with the radio or something else!

Thought I had better add to this after I really thought about it... TOWN driving I really try not to... but we live 12 minutes out of town... so that is where most of my talking time is! LOL

It seems you can do multi tasking even when driving. Well from traveling in town with lesser traffic, I think we can have a little leeway and enjoy the conversation. Much of severe traffic accidents happens in super highways, denting and bumping of vehicles happen in severe traffic conditions. Town roads are safer and clearer to drive. So its a not much of a problem, yet we will just have to be careful. As they say.. Safety first.

I have to admit that I do use my phone while I drive. I think its a bad habit, and when we drive we should keep our focus on driving. When I do talk on the phone, I try to keep it short and sweet. I know thats not good enough, and I should work on it more. Did you know that in many places it is becoming illegal to use your phone and drive at the same time.

Don't worry, I also do the same thing despite the fact of knowing that it is dangerous. just with the post that we have read, we can tell that slowly other countries have mandated or enacted some procedures regarding use of mobile phones while driving.

Yes it is really unsafe and just like you and almost everyone else, we use the phone while driving. I have seen some people involving themselves in traffic accidents simply because they cannot resist using the phone while driving.

If you have to please do go off the road or just use ear phones for that. Sometimes we just cannot avoid answering the phones, that is become a necessity in the recent times.

In England they tightened up the law and now using cell phone while driving is severely punishable offense and affects one's insurance policy as well.

Here in Chicago you can get a ticket for driving and talking on a cell-phone without a hands-free device. I use a hands-free earphone whenever possible for my phone usage in the car. Quite frankly the car is where I get the most done on the phone - it's not as difficult waiting on hold when yer driving then when you're sitting at work or at home with things to do. Btw, I my commute is 1 hour long- that's why I do alot of phone usage while driving. Tink

Tinkerick that is perhaps an in genius way of solving the problem. Using the a hands free device if possible since this will free both your hands during driving allowing you complete control on your driving. Although you don't have full concentration while driving, somehow, it makes driving a little bit safer.

This is exactly why I do it. I live out in the country and everywhere I go takes a while to get to. Sometimes during my really long commutes, I will call a friend to help keep me awake.

I use my cell phone while driving. I think if you are responsible enough to know when it is not appropriate to be distracted by a phone call and when you can safely focus on both that it should be just fine. It's a matter of knowing your limitations, if you driving is altered by talking on a cell phone, then don't do it or pull over. I knew a girl who would send text messages while she was driving and I thought that was horrid because she took her eyes off the road entirely. Priorities should be safety first, socializing later.

Hahahaha! You have a point there. Its a matter of knowing your abilities and how you handle the situation. Basically some people still manage to do some things while doing another. For instance, I saw a person who can still text and not look at the phone since he has memorized the keypads already while he is conversing with a friend. Maybe this is how they do it, they can still focus on the road and do text on the phone without looking at the keypad.

I think you should say drink driving. Driving while drinking water is not that dangerous.. provided you're stopping at the traffic lights. I dont have a vehicle, so I wont be in a position where I will drive while using the mobile phone but I have seen lots of people do that while I'm on a bus and looking out of the window. I have seen people sending sms while driving too. Its dangerous yeah... but people still do it.

Yes indeed it is a bad habit to break. Maybe perhaps that is the reason why some areas are creating laws that penalizes this act considering that it has become a habit and is dangerous along the road. So this laws will discourage people from doing so and make the road a safer road to drive.

If there is another person in my car, I will ask him/her to answer the phone call. Safety is the most important thing.
