I cant see why it would hurt them, its just a smell... They took all the cough medicine off the shelves at the beginning of winter for 2 years and under. My daughter has a cough. she's coughing in her sleep during naps and night time waking us both up! If i can't give her cough medicine, can i at least help her with some vapour rub?! What do you think ? .

Good Morning Sunshine, The advice you have gotten here about sensitivity the rub directly on the skin is sound advice. Also the need for a humidifier is apparent. Those are useful even when we are sick.

The reason that it says that, is because vapor rub can be harsh on an infant's skin. What my doctor has reccommended, and I have done with all 5 of my kids, is to rub the vapor rub on their onesie instead of on their skin. No, the smell can't hurt them, but the rub actually can.

Do you have Oxi-Clean? I have found that if I wash the spot off in the morning (get the spot wet, rub Oxi-Clean on it and let it sit for half an hour, then wash as usual) it comes right out. Granted I can only say that about cotton clothing, as I havent tried it on other fabrics. :O)

We usually use calpol and also carvol which is a decongestant. You buy a box with capsules in then snap the top part off and put the liquid drops on the sheets in the cot. I am in the UK and am not sure if you are in America if you can get it there. Here it is available over the counter. Also try steam that's very good also and if you put a bit of eucalyptus oil with the steam that would help. Our little girl is 2 and she is always getting something. Hope your little girl gets better very quickly.

Hi Lil Sis, Yeah I can't even get that stuff on my own skin. I sure wouldn't put right onto the little one's skin. My Elizabeth always wore a stocking cap to bed and I put it on that. I don't know why I chose that, but it worked all the same, and it never got near her skin. How soon are you due now? Shalom~Adoniah

What about the new one that you plug in and gives off vapours. I think it has smething to do with them rubbing it off there body and putting it in there mouth. not too sure but they have one that you don't have to rub on it is a vapour that goes into the room!!Good luck and hope she feels better

i dont see anything wrong in using vaporub.Way back when i was small my mom used it to relieve my cold. She put it on my back and on my chest and a little on the tip of my nose. Now that i have my own kids, i used it.When i have cough, i would rub it on my chest and cover it with a piece of cloth. Keeps it warm.

I think the only concern would be if they ate it... Other than that I am sure it is safe. Most medicines say consult a physician if the child is under 2 - I think to avoid misdosing or misdiagnosing.

They make vaporub for babies,it comes in a slightly smaller container with a pink lid,it's not as strong and it has lavender it in to help sooth them when they are fussy...just a suggestion...hope she feels better soon :)

i dont think it is.. i used it on my lil man.. even when he was young we put it on his shirt and some on like his soother to help him out... it gets very warm so it would be best for only a lil bit as a trial
