I use to respond to discussions started by newbies as a sort of helping hand... i give them tips on how to go around this site... but when i notice that most of them don't comment back... or even come back to mylot... i suddenly became weary of this helping out thing... then one time three discussions got deleted... so now... i limited myself to responding to only 3 to 4 discussion of newbies...

It's good to know that some of you will respond to people who are new and haven't made official "mylot" friends yet. I joined just the other day and my only friend is my husband who I referred to join. I didn't realize that there was a problem with newbies failing to post responses. I just respond to the topics I find interesting at the moment with no real bias one way or the other about who posted it. Maybe I'll change my tune once I learn the ropes a bit better, but my method so far entertains me enough.

Thank you! This is an interesting discussion. I'm learning a lot about what seasoned members like and dislike in behaviors of new members.

Yes I have tried this and most times have had responses but there have been times when they have not responded to any so do not do it as much anymore.

I respond to the discussions of new mylotters quite often, especially those with zero responses. I think this is the best way to encourage the new users here. I believe they might feel depressed if their discussions never receive any responses after posting out for hours or days. I couldn’t do anything sometimes when I come across any discussions that I really couldn’t understand or some even without any information for me to guess what they really want me to answer. Lol, not only newbie, I do feel depressed as well if no one replies to my new discussions.

sometimes when i can't find something interesting in my friends' discussions, i would go to the new discussions and see if i can find anything that i can respond to. i think its just a chance for me if i stumble upon a newbie's discussion. i don't really search for newbies and answer their posts. but if a newbie sent me a friend request, i would definitely answer some of her discussions first before adding her/him up. that's just my way of saying thanks for sending me a friend request and keep on creating discussions and be active on myLot. ^__^

i try to help the newbys because i know when i start any new thing like this i always need the help and i can remember getting a fair bit of help when i first started, I think it takes time to work things out but then maybe its me, i am a bit slow...but I like to help anyway...

I usually do, especially when they are asking or seeking for some tips on how this community works. I give them everything that I have learned from here, make them feel welcome and wish them to enjoy this site. I also give them helpful links, depending on what it is they'd ask for about mylot like the guidelines and FAQ's.
I understand that them being newbies, they still do not know nor understand how things work here so I don't usually get disappointed if they won't comment on it. You know, they could still be a bit shy interacting here or that somehow they were just that curious and didn't pursue their time here.
I am always all-over mylot, I respond depending on what interests me -be it friends or other mylottians..

When I browse through discussion I always hit the new user discussions and the discussion with no responses. I do it for a couple of reasons, to get a new person some responses and some action, and so that my response doesn't get stuck in the middle of a post with 20 or 30 or more responses.

It is very kind of you to do so. Most of the time I will reply to my friends' new discussions at first. Then I will reply to today's hot discussions and discussions with no responses. As I have a few discussions have no responses. So I know it doesn't feel well. And I would like to add my comments to any of no responses discussions.

If I had spare time to respond to these discussions I would do so. But anymore I do good to just to respond to my friends discussions that comes in my email notifications, just as I am doing with this one!

I'm still a newbie to this site and had a few comments to my newbie post. I'm already up a bunch of posts. I also tend to check out the new posts, posts with no responses, and new user discussions. If it's worthwhile I usually respond to them as well. I have a limited amount of friends at this time so I can't say that I just stick to their posts either. However I do like to go through a variety of discussions and read as well. Guess I need to learn how to start skimming again because when I first logged on at the beginning of the day it was like 9 am and by the time I looked at the clock again it was already after 1 pm.

I try to keep up with "my interest" whenever I am on mylot.com because it automatically updates whenever someone has a new question and I usually just go down the list and try and answer each question and then I go back to the top and do it all over again....I do try and answer more newbie ?s though because I am still a newbie(only been here like three days)I know what its like not knowing anything about mylot.com....so I try and help them...I also go out and try and help other people but I do have it set on my profile to alert me whenever my friends have posted a question so I can try and answer their question's too!
