Do you watch tv and at the same time surf the net?

With the advent of internet and the things it can offer. I have missed some of my TV programs since I am already busy, surfing the net doing some research and trying to make money on line. Usually while surfing I turn on my TV and try to watch. But I usually cannot focus on the TV since my brain is doing another thing. Do you still watch TV while surfing the net?

If I don't have my headphones on then I usually have the television on but I'm not paying attention to it 90% of the time. I have to have some kind of background noise to drown out the sound of the CPU fan. The CPU is on the desk right in front of me and the fan is, well, loud lol. Why not put it on the floor? It must be a female computer because it tends to give me troubles now and then and I have to reboot or switch wires. If I could multi task and watch tv, type and listen to music all at the same time, I would be extremely happy.

Man this discussion is on point, I always have the tv on when I am online I turn it to sports channels and try to listen to the commentator then react when there is some action I'll get a last glimpse or somethng but end up missing much of the game. it seems there are much entertainment available to people nowadays that they dont get around to doing everything they want. Dude welcome to the age of multi-tasking

I believe your right. It's multi tasking. I do the same like you, listen to commentaries but not basically watching sports activities but more on news. If I here the newscaster report a very interesting news, then I would watch the TV and pause my computer. But if the news does not interest me, I continue my computer activities. I just know what were gonna do next.... in this world full of technology, the brain may no longer be able to cope with it all.

I don't have cable in the basement where the computer is. If I want to watch something while I am down here I have to watch a VHS tape. Last night I was watching Girl Interrupted while on myLot.

I see, well maybe you could also find out some internet TV applications. I think you can check it out should you be interested. Then again, it would still be difficult to concentrate on both.

I watch tv while on mylot. I seem to be able to get some done during the commercials. And then I find a really good discussion topic. At that point the tv show loses out! So then the tv becomes my background noise. Mylot is once again the winner. other internet stuff, and work I don't even turn the tv on. Don't want to be distracted.

I also do the same, I continue working when the commercial are on. However, some topics in myLot are really worth the time and most often, the TV is left behind. I believe that for many people who are doing this internet thing, the TV has become the secondary choice. Most of us would usually prefer to concentrate on the internet more rather than the TV. However, if there is an episode that I really like to watch, a DVD movie or something, I would rather not turn on my laptop otherwise I will be tempted concentrate more on the internet rather than the TV and end up not understanding the episode.

I have tried doing this and I have realized that you can't do both well. If you do pay attention to what's on the computer then you can't focus on the TV. I usually go with just the internet. I think it's more likely to catch my attention, and it is time better spent than TV. I think that in the future we will see the two forms of media merge. There are signs of that already.

haha its hard to do two things at the same time! and it is very hard for me bacause when i sit near pc i am with my back to TV. I dont say that TV isnt on, but if i would like to watch both of them my head must rotate in more than 180 degrees angle :D lol

:) quiet funny that would be if i start yo use mirror to look at my TV :D i am employed as engineer and it is great when we can work on 2 monitors at the same time. so better is to use more monitors than try to put all together in one!

Sorry for getting back late on the reply. Yes, I think that would be the best option to have another monitor. Seems the most practical and reasonable thing to do. Well, do enjoy the set up!

Well that would be impossible to watch from your end since it would be impossible to rotate your head at 180 degrees. You may have an option however and that is to put a mirror slightly in front of you so you can still watch from the mirrors reflection. Take that as a joke. Hahahaha! Well its really difficult to concentrate on both. This could probably be the reason why some people invented the internet TV software.

Yes, most of us are doing that. I believe that despite what the internet can provide us, the television is still a worthy companion.

The TV is turned on and I hear bits and pieces of the programs, but I'm at the computer in another room. When I have money I'm going to get the guy from the computer store to come out and fix the wireless router so i can access via the laptop. Right now I don't care that much to do more than one thing at a time.

I believed that I have responded to your post long ago. But when I come over today, I noticed that my reply was deleted or I could have not properly posted it. Anyway, it is really difficult to do more things at once most especially on the computer and tv since it would be confusing most of the time and it takes away the concentration from the other. Well, do enjoy your day and I hope that your wireless router is fixed already.

talk about multi-tasking. i missed some of my favorite tv shows too especially when i was just starting this whole online earning thing. but i learned to multi-task after a while. i just turn on the tv, watch my the show and during tv adverts i go back to my computer. but sometimes it's hard especially when im watching hbo coz there aren't any adverts to give me a minute to go back to my computer.

Its quite a balancing act. But when I do this like watch and during adds, I have difficulty going back on the track in the computer. Most especially when I'm into writing an article, I lose my concentration.

I always have the tv on when I am surfing the net. If nothing else just for background noise. I can't seem to concentrate on two things at once, especially two things that require absolute attention. I usually put on something light hearted, like a funny movie or sitcom and listen while I am waiting for pages to load....I'm on dial up :(

Yes, it is really difficult to concentrate on both things together. Sometimes I pause my computer activities if I find the TV show interesting. Just like you, I also take the opportunity to watch the TV when I'm waiting for the pages to load. Although I am not using a dial up but sometimes there are situations that the my server is slow.

We just got our DSL connection three months ago. Before during our dial-up days, I would spend more time watching T.V. than in front of the computer. But since the dawn of our speedy DSL era, I, too, have missed watching almost all of my shows. Then again, I thought, someone would probably upload them online anyways so I'll just watch them here when I've got time. :P

Well thats a perfect plan. It will now give you the pleasure of watching the TV and at the same time do the computer work. It amazing the things we can do nowadays.

I do this especially if I am sorting out my eBay shop or my Etsy one, I like to have some kind of background noise. If I'm at Uni and in my room though where I don't have a television I still have a film or TV show funning on my laptop at the same time. I find that I can still follow most TV shows by just listening, although yes I do occasionally miss important bits!

I only watch a few shows on TV, but I would not even get to see those if I was not multitasking being online and watching television. I usually focus more on my shows than on the computer, leaving most of what I have to focus on the computer for until commercials. It has cut down on trips to the kitchen during commercial breaks. lol

When I had my TV hooked up I used to sit on the couch with my laptop, do my work, and listen to the TV in the background, but now I'm rarely ever home, and I don't have the internet at home, so I access my e-mail and computer from the cae. There's no TV in here. I don't miss TV at all.

i do this all the time! when i go home every weekend i would turn on the tv and the computer at the same time. i have a lot of favorite tv shows which are aired every weekends but its also during the weekend when i can do uninterrupted internet surfing so i am forced to do them at the same time. ^__^;; but most of the time, the internet gets the better of my attention too and i couldn't focus on the show i am watching so i would end up surfing and watching anime ONLINE. LOL sometimes i manage to watch my favorite show and surf the net only during commercials. that's why i'm thankful whenever they are showing reruns. i won't have to be torn between my two hobbies. ^__^;;

Sometimes I may have YouTube or something like that on when I am surfing, but very rarely do I have the actual TV and computer running at the same time. Also, usually I have music in the background when I am online, not TV (TV never really interested me too much for some reason). But usually I will have something on in the background, especially when I am working just to pass the time... if it has the right effect, sometimes it actually improves my focus... other times it can be distracting and I have to turn it off. Unsolicited activity around me is especially distracting, but if I have control over it, I don't find it too difficult to keep track of what is going on.

I love to watch tv while surfing the net. Even though I do miss bits and pieces of whatever I am watching. When it is my series shows that I watch I make sure I am not on my laptop otherwise I will miss parts and I odnt want to miss anything, but other than that I just like ot have the noise in the background to where it isnt too quiet.

i personally spend more time on surfing rather than sitting before boobtube. The main reason is i can watch and see on the computer what i'm wanting on that time depending on my mood while on tv we are dependant of tv channels. Secondly surfing net is much more informative and more entertainer in many aspects.
