Hi! I always love watching fishes in an aquarium. It gives me a light feeling and sense of serenity. And so, i've been planning of having one. A single fish in a fish bowl may do. But i'm skeptical because it will be placed in my room where the temperature would be a bit hot specially during noon time, and i think it's not so ideal for an aquarium to be placed in that kind of sorrounding. Could i be right? or could anyone tell me it's just ok and i need not worry about the temperature because it doesn't really matter. Please give me your opinion or share to me if you have some idea on how to take care a pet fish. What could be the things that i should anticipate in having an aquarium. Thank you in advance friends...

Some people I used to know who were veterinarians, and when I was contemplating getting an aquarium, they said that if you are going to own even one fish, you shouldn't use a fish bowl. You need something a little bigger, with an air filter. The reason gold fish die so often is because they don't have an air filter. Also, they told me to avoid those flat aquariums that you can post on a wall like a picture. Even though they look cool, they give the fish no room to swim and they are not good for the fish!

I really think you are just worrying yourself I dont thinkt he temperature will affect the fish too much. If you worry that it will hurt the fish with just putting one in a fishbowl than do a whole aquarium where you will have pumps to regulate the water temp. I also enjoy a whole tank a lot more because of the whole noise of the water and the light and it is just so beautiful. Well I hope this has helped at all and take care. Also enjoy your fishtank!

Yes the temp change from day to night will matter since the fishes body temp is the same as the water temp. If you change the temp of the water to fast you will stress the fish and stressing the fish will lower the fishes resistance to diseases. In a larger body of water the temp will not change as fast as in smaller bodies of water. Also you need to have enough air surface for each fish to be able to "breath" in the oxygen that is brought in at the surface of the water and the carbon dioxide is released into the air. Yes the Betta and a few other fish can breath air at the top of the water , even these need to have a constant temp to stay healthy. Some fish can take higher temp than others.
My recommendation is to buy as large a tank as you have space for and can afford because later on you will regret that you did not get a larger tank to put more fish in. I have been in the hobby for over 55 years and have talked to many newbies about this and they mostly wish that they had bought a larger tank to begin with.
