If you had a choice, how long would you like to be alive? Why? I notice that in most European countries, you need to be rich when you grow old because you will have to pay for expensive nursing homes. Fortunately for Asians like me, family takes care of family and very seldom are the elderly sent to hospices or nursing homes.

I want to live to an age to where i am able to take care of myself.I have no idea when that will be..It could be i will be 70,80, or 100, or it might be 5 or 10 years...When i get to the point that i cannot do for myself and i am beginning to be a burden to others than my life would be just mondane, and i do not want that at all...I never want to be a burden to anyone..I feel like a person can live to long but when they do,they are not really living they are just exsisting...I don't think any of us really want to die but we will thats one thing we will all do..If i could live to a ripe old age and not be helpless then of course i would be happy with that...I know somw vwry old people, some of them have to depend on others to care for them,to me thats living too long...

I want to live up to 80 years old. The women in my family are known to live longer. My paternal grandmother is already 93 years old and can still move very well and not bed ridden. She isn't one of those who needs a caregiver yet at her age.

I'd like to live a long healthy life, as long as I would never become a burden on my family. My girls have always said that there is no way they'd let me go to a nursing home. Our whole family has always been like that though. I took care of my Dad in his last years, his sister, and many other relatives and friends. I did home hospice for lots of the neighborhood, and it's a wonderful thing if the parent/patient can stay home while being cared for rather than relegated to a nursing home. Our parents took care of us when we were young and unable to do for ourselves, it's a labor of love to do it for them when they are old. If I would become totally bedridden, and it was harder on my family to keep me home, I'd probably sign myself in (if I could afford it) for my final days rather than make it hard for them. It's very expensive in the U.S. to be in a nursing home.

My family often live until they are 90 years or so. I wouldn't mind living that long if I remain in reasonable health. Especially I would like to be able to stay in my own home. You are quite right. Elderly people in Australia who can't manage on their own, with some outside help, need to go into a nursing home. They can be very expensive. People on a very low income can get into a Government nursing home, but there is a very long waiting list.

Hi emilieespino! Well, same here. We do care for our elders in our own homes. But I really don't want to get that old when I won't be able to function independently. I guess, I don't want to grow old and helpless. Just my thoughts. Take care and have a nice day! :)
