Sweet or Savory ?

Paula Deen said something on her show the other day that rings true with me. I am wondering if any one else out there is the same as me and Paula......I don't like to leave the table with the taste of sweet in my mouth. I have to have a savory or salty bite as my last bite. I am thinking it's because I am heading for my diet coke or iced tea and I don't like sweets with that. I'm not quite sure, but this morning for breakfast, I made waffles and bacon. I had to have the bacon as my last bite, not the waffle and syrup. Even if I crave a sweet taste, I finish up after that with a cracker or piece of cheese. Is this strange or usual? Curious minds want to know :)

I like finishing up with something sweet. I guess that's why I can't get out of the dessert habit, even if it's just a piece of fruit or a yogurt, that's what I like to have last.

I can enjoy the taste of sweet sometimes, but typically, it has to be the salty or savory. I love the Dove Dark Chocolate and bought a bag of them yesterday. I ate 3 in a row and didn't have anything else until dinner. They are so good! Once you have had them, you just can't go back to any other chocolate.

I'm definitely much more a salt addict than sweet. We really don't do sweets/desserts too often in our house. I even like salt in my sweets occasionally...like trail mix with salty nuts and seeds and sweet dried fruit or salty nuts and pretzels covered in dark chocolate. I liked a salty caramel ice cream I tried once too.

I like trail mix too. In fact, I made my own once and it turned out real good! Sunflower seeds are good as well. I'm not crazy about the chocolate covered pretzels, but don't mind if others do :) I was thinking of honey roasted peanuts, there is a sweet and salty mix and it's good.

i don't really like the sweet taste that much...for me, my meals must consist of a sweet and a salty taste...but most of the time i can go with only salty taste. For breakfast, I love to have a salty taste rather than the sweet one. But if i have the sweet one like pancake, i will prepare something else which is salty to be pair with them such as fried sausage, or omelette's or fried chicken.

You know what I think I am the same. If we are having pancakes and bacon or ham. I eat the pancake first. I don't remember what show it was now, but I got a recipe for a Apple sausage crumb pie. Sweet and Savory at the same time. This was a breakfast entree. Man it looked fantastic. OHHH yuk. That was one of the biggest no go's in my home. My family made it clear that they want their savory separate from the sweet!

I must prefer sweet because I always have bubble gum after every meal. So it doesn't matter what the last bite was it will be followed by sweet bubble gum.Oh, I use bubble gum so I don't have heartburn.

Wow. Bubble gum too sweet.Suggestion if you ever want some gum , try Wrigley's Spearmint. It isn't that sweet.

Bubble gum for heartburn? I used to chew bubble gum all of the time, but it is just too sweet for me now. Sounds like a good plan for you though!

I didn't know they made spearment bubble gum? Cool! I'll have to try that. The only gum I chew these days is Altoids gum, it's pretty good. But, one container will last me a few months!

Hmm. I never really thought about it that way, but I do know that I rarely eat dessert after dinner but, instead, prefer to save my sweets for mornings. So, now that I'm thinking about it, I guess I do the same thing that you do. I would probably prefer the bacon to be my last bite rather than the waffle.

I don't think I have a time of the day I save for sweets. However, certain times of the month, for get about it! I can eat an entire chocolate cake (and have been this week in fact). If there is a particular time of day, it would be about an hour after lunch, or right when I get home, about 7pm. Then, I dive into the salty, or svory with my iced tea or diet coke. The waffles and bacon were real good today too :)

Funny you should mention this, but a few weeks ago when my brother was visiting I had some ice cream in the evening and then had a craving for something like chips. I asked my brother if he had the same craving after eating something sweet like ice cream and he said he did also. It must be normal for us to want something salty after something sweet, I'm not sure why but it happens to me too. Annie

Well, I'm not quite sure pizza would be savory, I think it could be. Anyway, when we have pizza, we get a craving for something sweet right after. Usually chocolate. It's been that way for years now. And, when Paula Deen says "savory", and then takes the wonderful bite of something, I want savory right that minute. Actually, when Paula takes that bite of anything, I want to go make that recipe right away. Whit

Oh, probably just personal preference. I can go either way. However, I'd rather have more bacon than waffles!! Instead of a dessert, I'd rather have extra bacon! I know it is not good for you and fattening and all, so I really strick myself to eating it - (fact that is is rather high priced, helps me stay "strong") but forget the sweet desserts and give me BACON!!!!

I don't make pancakes well, so they are not very good! Those little mini frozen ones that you nuke are pretty good tho! But I make the waffles with my waffle iron that makes stick shapes for dunking! I just would love ot deep fry them for that crispyness fast food french toast sticks get, but oh well! I like French Toast better than both anyway!!

Oh, yes, the microwave pancakes are terrific. However, If you have the right griddle, you can make perfect pancakes too. I have a great griddle and my pancakes turn out real good! I'm getting hungry now. Not much of a lunch today :)

I agree, I prefer the bacon to the waffles. I actually prefer pancakes to waffles, but my sweetie likes waffles best. I'll make pancakes next time, maybe with sausage. I like sausage too. Patties more than the links.

i don't think i have a preference as to which needs to be the last taste in my mouth, but i do definitely like to alternate bits of sweet and savory throughout a meal or snack. usually i prefer my last bite to be of whichever dish i like best in the meal be it sweet or savory. but this is why snacks like trail mix with chocolate in them as so great for me - sweet *and* savory all in one bite!

I like trail mix too. Have you ever made your own? It's real easy. I have found many recipes on line.
