Do You Enjoy Cooking, Or Just Do It Out of Necessity?

Personally, I absolutely love getting in the kitchen and cooking up a storm, experimenting with new ideas, and knowing at the end that I have created the scrumptious result.
It seems, though, that so many people only cook because no-one else in the family will and they need to eat, so it's just out of necessity, and they actually hate doing it - even if they're not that bad.
How is it for you?

I really love to cook. I like creating a dish and getting the reaction to it. I have a really small kitchen so its kind of hard to get in there and cook. Also I have been so busy with work, school, kids, and housework that I only have time to cook the basics. But soon thats all going to change and i'll be able to get my cookbooks out and create.

I know exactly what you mean, my mum has a great industrial gas stove and oven, and a heap of bench space that made loving cooking even easier because it was just so simple to move and there was plenty of room.
I only have a teeny kitchen and a two burner electric stove, but that just means I've had to adapt to cooking great meals with little help from my environment =P
You're moving, then?
Good luck, and have fun in your new kitchen! =D

I definitely love to cook. When I was younger, one of the things that kept me busy at home when I was bored was watching my mom and my grandmother cook, and they in turn taught me how to cook their dishes. When I perfected those, I went through and began to teach myself some other dishes. I love getting new recipes from different places and trying them out, and I also love trying new combinations and making new creations. It is not bad at all for me, I love it and it's never really a hassle for me.

Same here.
My mum is an amazing cook, and she had the same passion when she was younger, watching her mother and aunties cook, that I developed from her.
It was always something that I saw as interesting, exciting and fun, not to mention getting to taste the food as you go =P
Sometimes I have dreams about different meals, and the next day I buy the ingredients (if I don't have them already) and try it out.
I feel that cooking is an artform =)

I do not like to cook at all. I only do it because my husband won't do it. If he would I would gladly turn the job over to him. I would rather scrub walls down and wash dishes or anything else that is cleaning. I never have liked to cook at all.

I don't love to cook every single night because sometimes I get in a rut where I can't think of anything new to cook.
When I get a good idea or find an interesting new recipe I really have fun cooking. I have more fun cooking when my husband is home "helping" me too.

I love to cook but I am not that good in it but still, some people appreciate because I deviate from the usual recipes that mama has. I would love to do it all the time but since I have other things to do, I onlt cook when necessary and no other available cook are there to prepare our food.

I used to be terrible, but I was still really enthusiastic and my mum gave me great advice and was always happy to show me how to do things.
It's a shame that you enjoy it but rarely get the time.
As your kid/s grow up, hopefully you'll have the time to teach them =)

It depends on what I'm cooking. Most of the time it is out of necessity but other times I do it for fun. When my Nephew stays the night we often bake cookies or make our own pizza's. I like teaching him to cook and it gives us extra time together.

I think cook is not only a skill but also an art. It is quite a good experience to cooking food for someone, but also tasting them.
But cooking is quite hard for us, for it needs time, energy and heart to prepare a good dish for other. But with good cooking skill you can live a better life than other people.

If it's just me and my hubby eating then I don't paticualarly like cooking but if we are having company over then I love to cook. My problem is I cook way too much when it is just the two of us and I end up with so much leftovers. Also my hubby isn't very grateful for my cooking and he never tells me the food is good, where as when I have company they always say it is good.
On the weekends my hubby does the cooking and I always tell him its good, even if it isn't.

I deeply enjoy cooking and it is a labor of love for my family. Granted, no one else will cook anything more than heating up something up. But I really don't mind the cooking part. The only part of cooking I dislike is the cleanup afterwards and unfortunately, no one in my family is enthusiastic about doing that either.

In theory I enjoy cooking, but there are a couple of factors that put me off in a major way:
1) The mess involved - if cooking means that you have to clean the kitchen all over again, forget it.
2) Time - when you are starving hungry and have a million and one other things to do, the last thing you want to do is cook.
3) Money - when you are on a budget, I frequently find that recipes can work out quite expensive, unless you go for those ones that use storecupboard ingredients which I frequently do.
If, I could get past these factors I would be a true cook.

i think im in between lol..for me its a necessity and at the same time love also to cook..all my children cook but if theyre not around im the one who will do the chores..sometimes i dont feel like cooking though(just lazy or whatever)...so i had to buy some on restaurants..but at the same time i had the passion to cook and collect some recipes...maybe its just my mood that affects me..

I like cooking up new recipes but once they get old i hate to cook em. lol. Im usually the only one cooking in this house. My husband dont like to cook and usually just opens a can of speggetios and eats em straight from the can when he is hungry.

I don't know what it is but I have never really liked cooking. I do cook most nights during the week and my husband cooks in the weekends. He is a much better cook than me or shall i say his meals are much yummier than mine LOL. I have never wanted to learn and just do simple meals. I would prefer he cooks everyday as I don't mind cleaning up after him.

I fall in the category of hating to cook. Its not really a total dislike for cooking. I just hate the feel of raw meat!!! If I could just cook side dishes or meats that go straight from frozen to the cooking apparatus I would be fine. But I hate having to rinse, cut, and season raw meat. It just feels nasty. And I can't say it's because I am a vegetarian, because I have no qualms about eating, much less touching it once its done!!!!

I used to love to cook, bake, and can..Now there just doesn't be enough time..But it was passed on to my youngest daugher (who is 30).. She does all those things and I think better than I do.. Now, my older daughter -- If it can't be nuked, then forget it!! Luckily her daughter goes to her Aunts' often and is learning many of the principles of doing all those things..
