Naming children

Do you know someone or did you name your children with a theme or for instance all the names start with the same letter? Did you do this as a tradition or why? I ask because my best friend from high school carried out her mother's tradition of naming the kids with the letter "J". She has three boys, Jeremy, Jared and Justin. Do you have a similar tradition? Or know someone who has done something like this?

My family never does that. They tend to try and pass down names that would otherwise be forgotton. My Grampa Hollis for instance. My son intends to name his son (should arive around August) after him. After I told him that it would also be a great girl's name, he said that he would name the baby Hollis no matter what.

We did that with our little one. My partner gave me no choice, bot or girl, only the spelling would be slightly different. I'm just glad my partner chose his grandads first name and not his middle name which was more like a dog's name!

That's a great old fashioned name! I love it! Will be unique no matter if for a boy or girl.

Oh that's funny. My husband has an odd name. We have always asked my mother in law where it came from. She had 5 boys so was running out of names by the time he was born. He is the youngest. She finally told us that he was named after a childhood friend.

Hummm maybe :) My children are Shawn, Shannon, Valerie, and Shane. Can you guess which one I Didn't name? Originally I wanted to name my first born after a dear dear friend of mine "John" - well that was just too boring but found Shawn and feel in love with the name it just followed from there. Each of them have a middle name that is the first name of another family member, grandfather or such. We do have 4 generations of 'Austin's My grandfather's first name, my father's middle name, Shawn's middle name, and Shawn's only son who is Shawn Austin Jr. but we call Austin rather than Shawn.

Ironic that we are dwelling over the name of Shawn here in reference to a letter received trying to figure out if this one is male or female. I voted male but the boss is saying female. I have a nephew named Shawn also :)

My parents named me Samuel Adam Gordon, my brother Justin Allen Gordon, and my other brother Ben Arthur Gordon. SAG, JAG and BAG. I dont think they purposely did this, but all my friends think it's quite funny. especially my initials lol. SAG or backwards its GAS. yeah. i've learned to laugh at it too instead of getting upset. Oh well.

I didn't make the connection to the initials until you pointed it out. How funny! I bet your parents didn't realize it either at the time of naming.

Having rhyming names would be very confusing--especially that many! Wowzers! Ummm and having 17 kids would be insane! haha

Yes, I have a friend who all of her daughters names start with a K and all of their names have the exact same amount of letters as well. Her husband is very anal about things like that. I never thought to do that at all. I only have one child but if I were to have more, I wouldn't have done that I don't think.

My brother and his ex wife did that. Both of their names began with a K, Kevin & Kim so they named their two kids, Kevin Jr and Kathryn. All were born in the month of June except for Kim. Kathryn was born on their wedding anniversary.

I used to have a bf named Matthew Meeker. He had a twin brother named Miles. He had a sister named Margaret, and another brother named Mark. Neither of their parents had names that started with "m" so that would not explain it but if they had been wealthy just think of all the money they could save in Monogramed towels nd hand me down sweaters!

That's one advantage of naming all with the same letter! I hadn't thought of that!

We have a family friend that had about 7 kids - every single kid has a name that starts with a T. Well, it's cute, but... I think it would be irritating for the kids. Some of the names are similar and it might be hard for them to hear which one their mom was calling. My husband and I haven't any traditions about this. At one time I thought it would be cute to name them both names that start with an S, but I don't think we can agree on a boy's name that starts with an S. I love the name Sebastian, but so far, he's not into it at all. We'll wait til the time comes and see if I can change his mind!!

Good luck!! It was funny when I was pregnant both times, once with a single and second time twins (for those that don't know me) and we always agreed on names for girls. We didn't agree on any names for boys. Luckily (I guess) we had three girls!

I have a sister that did that; she thought it was cute that she and her husband had the same first letter (C) in their name so when she started having kids they gave them all names that started with the same letter (C). When she had her last child she wanted to name her (the only girl) something different and went with the name Zoe. When Zoe was old enough to realize that everyone but her had a name that started with C she was really confused. Even though they told her they gave her an extra special name, I don;t think she ever got over everyone else having a name that started with C except her.

A friend of mine up North has had 3 girls and they are Shelby, Satina and Skylar. She is pg again and her b/f says if it is a girl he's naming Kiarra...we'll see if she goes along with it. On my Dad's side of the family, my Grandfathers name was Charles Anthony, my Dad's is Anthony Ace, my oldest Brother is Anthony Charles and my Nephew is Anthony Charles, Jr. There has been an Anthony in that line for as far back as we can go which is like the 1700's. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

We personally don't have any naming traditions in my family. I just gave my children names that I liked. My husband was named after his biological father, but didn't want to pass on the name. He doesn't even go by it himself and had little to no contact with his father after he turned 4 years old. My brother has two children. My niece has my sister-in-law's middle name as her first name. My nephew has my brother's first name as his middle name. My sister has 4 children. The oldest daughter has my brother-in-law's mother's first name as her middle name. The two middle children were just names that they liked. The youngest daughter has my mom's middle name as her middle name.

My boys and I all have the same initials. MBB. The thing is, my favorite boy's name is Michael, so my first son was named Michael. Mitchell is a form of the name Michael. It means Gift from God. Michael's middle name is Brian after his father, and Mitchell's middle name is my maiden name which begins with B. Their father's last name also begins with B.

My mom's family - all of the children (8) were named with the initials DMW (except the first boy, whose middle name followed that of his father). This went Diane, Drinda, Denise, Deborah, David, Darrell, Duane, and Della. Many of them do not like their middle names, so I don't know all of them. Another similar family is that of my friend, who has 4 children. All of their initials are KFC (no joke!). But, the funny thing is, they can't shorten their first names either, as everyone's name is a version with "Kris" in it! (Kristy, Kris (male), Krista, and Kristina) I think people think it is "cute," but don't realize the big picture... It will change when the daughter(s) get married!!!

Yup I know some parents who do that. One family had all their kids name start with J and the other one with A. Another couple put their names VIC or LUZ on their kids name (Vera Luz, Jonah Luc, Rovic, Victor, etc.)

I know of one family who named all their kids beginning with "C". They've got 6 (or possibly more) kids and I think they must have made up some names or spelt names which would usually begin with a "K" with a "C". I don't think I know anyone else who has used a theme. But if I'd have had girls I might have called them Holly and Ivy!

my sister named her 3 children that way. her name starts with the letter "A" and her husbands name starts with the letter "B", so all their childrens name starts with the letters A & B.
