I went to my fridge to make a salad for supper and I took out the lettuce and tomatoe and shrimp , and reached in to grab the cucumber as I love cucumber nice and crispy thats why I keep it in the fridge , but I didn`t have room in my crisper so I just had the cucumber on the fridge door ///
WELL to my surprise I went to pick it up and the thing exploded in my hands , water and the seeds flew everywhere , needless to say I didn`t get my salad ...
FREAK ME OUT !!!
What a mess , I just finished cleaning the fridge , and don`t think I`ll eat tonite as now I have no appetite ...
Oh the cucumber was only three days old thats why it surprised me ...
I have never in my life seen a cucumber explode like that ...
Have you ever had something like this happen . I have see potatoes do this but never a cucumber ...
YUCK

I'm guessing it was probably in the store for well over a week or so. Perhaps they didn't even have the temperatures set correctly in the produce area either and it subsequently went through periods of coolness, room temperature, then heat, while it was awaiting purchase?

It was fresh but I wonder how old it was , the place I got it from never has good produce , I normally get my veggies at another place but with the weather I can`t get there , so I go there as its alot closer and the walk ways were clear , and this week it gonna snow all week so I won`t be getting any this week either unless it blows over ....
I`m hoping it does

Yes, they will do that. When they are picked before they are ready, they are not kept in storage like they should be so they do just explode. I used to work in a produce department. Just be thankful that it was not a watermelon that exploded. They stink! LOL

My goodness, I have never seen any food explode that I can remember. I'm sorry you lost your appetite though, but I have seem many other things in fridges, not mine of course lol, and they have not been a pretty sight.

OMG! I am sorry you missed out on your salad. That sounds really gross. I have never seen it happen either. I didn't even know cucumbers could explode. I wonder what made it happen since it couldn't have gone bad in 3 days.

Thats what I figure happened is the warmth of the door and the oxidents of the other vegetables in the fridge all wworked against the poor cucumber ...

I almost wish I had a picture of my face when it happened
LOL LOO L LOL that would have been a funny one and I hate having my picture taken ...

Maybe your cucumber wasn't fresh to begin with. I have seen few products at local grocery store that look not fresh when sold....
Take care,
Hugs!

That is so very gross. I would have likely 'lost my religion' and been ranting/cursing as I cleaned the refridgerator. I wonder why it did that? I know that bacteria gives off gas, I wonder if it had some bacterial contamination inside of it from soemthing? I too would have lost my appetite and not been able to eat after cleaning that!

Really glad this didnt happen to me, I think it would have put me off them for life, I can honestly say that I have never ever had a vegetable explode on me. I shall now be keeping my eye closely on my veggies just in case they decide to explode on me!
