Do You Know And Wear Yous Birthstone?

When I was in school birthstones were very big. Once we began dating and going steady a birthstone ring was usually the first gift given to a girl by her boyfriend. Back then every girl knew what her birthstone was, what it meant, and if she had not received one from a boyfriend, it was just a matter of time. My birthstone is the diamond and I was giddy with happiness when I received my ring from my first serious boyfriend. They weren't nearly as expensive then as they are now. How important are birthstones to you? Have they figured prominently in your life? These are my burning questions for today, lol.

Mine is topaz (November) and I don't like 'orange.' Apparently topaz can come in blue, but I've never found one so no, I don't wear my birthstone.

Really? I thought they were more like yellow colored.. Though I preferred other colors, I still liked mine which is also topaz..

I agree that the topaz is more of a yellow color, ShardAerliss, and I like them. I've seen the blue ones also, and they are beautiful.

I've always seen orange-y ones. Much like amber but more opaque. Either way, I don't like yellow either, lol.

My birthstone is garnet. I don't know what it means. I own a few but I don't wear them, they are very fancy and my life is very causal.I used to love red but now I love blue so my favorite stone is sapphire.

A responder went into a lot of detail about the garnet, sara. There seems to be a lot of myLotters with that birthstone.

I was born this month (February). My birthstone is amethyst. I wear it every day. I have several pieces of amethyst jewelry. Amethyst (I've heard) is for calming and also strengthens psychic abilities.

Happy Birthday, cblackink. Amethysts are beautiful and they are said to have those properties.

I know my birthstone and it is included in my anniversary ring, but I never took stock of their importance. No one gave birthstone rings to their girlfriends, I guess that those who get diamonds must have been in high heaven while those who got a cheaper gem felt down in the dumps. Mine is an amethyst but I would rather wear pearls. I did have a pair of earrings, but the stone came off and I never had a ring. Never had a steady boyfriend, and my husband did not give me an engagement ring, he was Mennonite then, and they did not believe in them.

I suppose it would depend upon the area you grew up in also, suspenseful. They have always been a big deal to me.

Funny to be honest I just plain was never thrilled by my birthstone which is topaz...but since I'm on the cusp of Scorpio and Sagittarius I have a love for the birthdstone of Sag. and that is turquoise. So instead of anything topaz, I have a lot of jewelry with turquoise in it..like all my Native American jewelry. I even got my college ring with a lovely big stone of turquoise on it...while my high school ring is topaz

Umm...seems quite a few people don't especially like the topaz, pyewacket. I happen to think they are very beautiful. I also love the turquoise and have many jewelry items made from them.

I guess there are modern birhtstones, traditional, and zodiac. If you go by the traditional (which is what I go by), your stone is Emerald. Pearl is your modern birthstone (whatever that means). If you go by the zodiac and your sign is Cancer (last third of June) your stone would be Ruby.

My findings , posham, were that your primary birthstone is the pearl, and your two secondary birthstones are the moonstone and Alexandrite. For the people who mentioned the Ruby, it is the birthstone for July.

I hate that too posh. I'm born in June too and it doesn't seem like a pearl should be counted as a stone. I like amethyst myself. :) Hubby did buy me a pearl ring, necklace and ear rings for my bday last year. I wear the ring daily but I'm not much for ear rings and necklaces.

That is a beautiful ring, bala, and I love sapphires. Of course, it has a special meaning because it was your dads.

I am very confused to my birthstone.
Many places are saying that it is aquamarine, green jasper or opal.
I like diamonds, turquoise and amethyst. I always atay with what I like first...

I think it is worthwhile, polachicago to investigate things pertaining to your birth since they might be helpful in a number of ways. Sure, I like many different gemstones, but I have to own a couple of the ones that are meant for me.

Mine is the blue one. I was born in March. I think its the Aquarious or something like that. I have it on my class ring and I wear my class ring 24/7. lol I never take it off. I guess you could say its kinda stuck on my finger but not literally.

Yes, I know my birthstone, but I do not wear it currently. I've known what my birthstone was since grade school, around 1st or 2nd grade. My mom bought my sister and I each a little pendant necklace back then and each of our pendants had our very own birthstone in it. Of course it wasn't a genuine stone, but I didn't care, I thought it was beautiful just the way it was. :)
I never received my birthstone as a gift from a boyfriend...

That's because you didn't ask for it worldwise. ;) LOL But I will tell you it now, it is ruby. :)
I don't need a piece of jewelry with my birthstone in it, I've got my husband and kids, a roof over my head and food in the fridge. That is enough for me. :)

My birthstone is the garnet, they haven't really figured prominently, however I was surprised Christmas of 06 when my s/o gave me a pair of beautiful garnet earrings, who knew, he even knew what my birthstone was! lol That time birthstones meant a lot, or maybe it was the fact that he knew what my birthstone was.lol

What's more important, palonghorn, is the fact that he took the time to find out what your birthstone is!

Birthstones have never really been significant to me. My birthstone is, apparently, opal or tourmaline. (I don't even know what tourmaline is!) I would be offended if anyone gave me a tourmaline stone because it's pink and anyone who knows me would know that I don't do pink! I think opal is a bit boring though.
I remember choosing my first pair of earrings, they'd got some birthstone ones and I chose September which is sapphire rather than my birth month of October!

My birthstone is pearl. And even though I'd love to say that it is important to me, it's not, nor has it figured prominently in my life. I just don't find them all that pretty!! I know the expense of a true pearl and know that how they are made is just out of this world, but they just don't look right on me...they aren't me. I would much rather have an emerald than a pearl. But I love green so...
Now one thing that I do want to do will be for my mom. I want to get her a mother's ring (preferably for mother's day) with one black pearl and one white. Both my sister and I have the pearl as a birthstone. I just haven't seen one that isn't so ugly or gaudy. It needs to be PERFECT!!

I have never been much of a "pearl" person either, rosey, but my first highschool boyfriend gave me a beautiful gold pendant with a single pearl encased many years ago. I really loved that pendant. I have a mother's ring and a mother's pendant which contain the birthstones of all my children along with mine. I only wear them for special occasions.

mine is the Opal.
I absolutely love it. and that has nothing to do with it being my birthstone, I just love Opals. especially black opals. I have a Watch I got for my 21st, with Opals set in the band, and a black opal ring. various other peices that I wear sometimes, but not all the time. some antique black opal earrings, a pendant, a blue opal pendant, a choker with tiny pearls and Opal chips, a few other opal rings.
I love them.

Hi Worldwise. I went to check out your link for the birthstones. I was born in Dec. and all I could remember is that the stone is blue. I didn't remember it being Blue Topaz (I remember it being something that I could not pronounce). But it did give an alternate being turquoise - which as it happens, I do were every dat. I have a turquoise ring that was given to be by a friend in high school that I still wear today.

My birthstone is Emerald... I know that it is linked to healing and health. It is thought to be associated with the ability of seeing into the future which gives it a bewitching or magical flare. (kinda cool, eh?)
I use to hate my birthstone because I really don't like green all that much, but as I got older, my taste seems to have changed. I have lots of pieces in my jewelry case that have my birthstone gem.
awesome discussion!

Emeralds are wonderful, Little_Stormy, and they just happen to be my secondary birthstone. I wear an emerald and diamond ring that was given to me by my daughter over 10 years ago, and I never take it off.

I was born in April so my birthstone is the diamond. Being that diamonds are very expensive, I don't currently own anything with my birthstone on it. However this really doesn't bother me because my birthstone really holds no meaning to me. I don't know the tradition behind birthstones nor do I care much. Really the month I was born in holds no real importance to me. I am not crazy "April Proud" and that great stuff. In retrospect, its just a rock for months, thats it!
