I am someone who doesnt have a credit card. Reason one is that I have no credit, which is worse than bad credit. Secondly, I dont want to tempt myself. I have no cash, I cant buy it. If I had a card I would. For me, I think it is best I stay away. Also most people get them in the mail even if they have not so good credit. I have never received one. I have bought a computer system and am in the process of trying to start a small jewelry business. I dont need any financial issues. Everytime I go to post merchandise on the internet, they ask for a credit card to register. Is there any living without credit cards? What do people do when they just cant get one? I love the idea of putting my designs out there for all to enjoy, but there's got to be another way. Is there? I have put my stuff on craigslist and received emails from anyone with a cashiers check or money order. NOT! We all know thats a scam. I asked advice from a friend and she said use pay pal. Dont I need a card for them? I am sooooo confused!!!! HELP?????

I also dont have a credit card.
I don't buy things online and my small salary is always deposited in my bank account and thats where I get it from.
Please try using moneybookers. It does not require credit card as long as you have a bank account. The charges are also cheap.

I don't have a credit card either. Sometimes it does get frustrating but for the most part I am happy not to have one. Only reason I would want one is to get things online so it is probably best that I don't have one. HEHE I do have paypal and can do almost anything with it but they do hold my funds for 10 days to clear but if I had a card they would let the funds out right away.
But you may want to look into a debit card which is just like a credit card

THis kind of also the reason why I dont want credit. I think I would buy everything. Thanks for your response.

I don't have a credit card, but I do have a check card. It is a debit/check/credit card. You basically use it like you are using cash. Whatever you have in your account is what you can spend, otherwise you will get Over Draft fees. It is basically automatically taken out and put on hold for when your debits go through. It is very helpful and you can use it as a credit card. With paypal you also need a checking account (I think).

Ok. One thing that will boost your credit is your debit card if you run it as credit. Don't go and get caught up in the credit card trap in order to boost your credit. I did that and am now finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel....it is NOT worth it. DONT DO IT!! Instead take out a personal loan at your bank and pay it back really quickly....do it again. You don't need a card for paypal but it does make things easier. You should have a checking account with a debit card that will also run as credit. It won't let you spend any more than what you have in your account.

Acquiring a credit card has its advantages and disadvantages. Advantages? It gives one the convenience. I mean you can shop without carrying cash with you. You feel safe. You can also shop online using a credit card and you don't have to go to the shopping malls to shop. Disadvantages? Since it speaks of credit, a credit card holder is at risk of shopping/buying much. Having one is very tempting. But I guess it's one's choice whether to get or not to get a credit card. And if one has, it's his/her major responsibility to take charge it. And hey, you're talking about paypal. Paypal also needs credit card details cos it's also doing business transactions online. It's all up to you friend cos you got the right to make a choice for your own. :) Hope I made sense with this matter. :)

No, you don't need a credit card for PayPal, just a bank account. If you have a bank account, you can get a debit card, which works the same as a credit card. You don't HAVE to have a credit card and it's great that you realize you don't have a financial need for it. Too many people misuse credit cards and find themselves in deep holes of debt.

That is exactly what i dont want to happen is misuse of a credit card. Most of the time they are honest mistakes. I have friends that had sent payments that werent received yet and because the company hadnt received in mail the payment they were charged fees for late payment. Its a fight and a half to dispute this. Most companies go by the postmark. Credit card companies change their policies to suit themselves. I dont want any of this. I am a realist and I know that once you begin to use the card they make it impossible to pay it off unless you pay above desired amount. I am on a budget so the desired amount would be what I was able to pay. OH this is exactly why I dont have them.lol

It really just depends on how you use it. I put EVERYTHING on my credit card (to get the cash rebates) then I just pay it all off when I get the bill. I never carry a balance from month-to-month so there are no fees, and I only charge what I have money for in the first place. That way, my money sits in the bank account getting a little interest and I get cash rebates on the card.
But, there was a time that I wasn't like that and had gotten into some bad situations because of it. I've become very disciplined though and it's not a problem any more.

That's what I was thinking. I was going to purchase one just for that fact. I am beginning to sell my jewelry designs online and the only place I have found that will do it is craigslist. Everyone else charges fees that require a credit card. I feel better now. THanks. I wasnt sure the prepaid card would work online.

I understand your frustration! I, too, do not own a credit card. I found that I just don't do well with the temptation. I paid off all my debts and now live on a cash basis. I do have a debit card through my checking account. I have found that the debit card works perfectly fine in the place of a credit card for everything I have needed to do- make on-line purchases, reserve airline tickets, etc. I do have one suggestion. Have you seen the Visa gift cards? I wonder if that would work for the things you need to do. You could just pre-load them with whatever amount you need. I don't know... that does sound like a lot of hassle. PayPal is a great idea. You don't need a card to use PayPal. You can link it to a checking or savings account, as far as I can remember.

Yes of course it is .Just think how the younger or earlier generations lived they gone to ages and still credit cards never exist but they lived..
In all honesty, I never liked credit cards I treat them like demons coz it will really pull you down and make you lock yourself in your room for the whole week. Coz when the time comes and bills are coming to get you.. theres nothing you can do and the interest is always adding up to the major problem.

That is a great way to look at it. I am going to follow your lead and treat them as the enemy. The only one I think I could be interested in is the prepaid. I would know how much is on at all times because I put it there. For now that is all I would be interested in. I actuallly purchased two of them for my daughters. They are doing great with them. thanks for your response.d

Ok ,by now you know the answer is a debitcard attached to a checking-account that you can use as a credit card!, Next ,I hear you are fearfull of bouncing checks. You also told me here that you got a computer and obviously an internet connection!, Now here is the beauty my dear, you go to the bank and while you setup the checking-account with $50 al you have to say is that you would like to have online-access with billpay!, now the billpay will cost you $3-5 per month and your checking-account also, so here you roughly lose $10 per month for both of them ,.....................UNLESS you go afterwards to INGDIRECT.com and link a checking-account to your excisting account, they do NOT charge for billpay or a monthly fee and they give you interest on checking and savings account with automatic savings-plan that you can save money with from 1 cent to infinity per day or week or month etc , you are in control of your money, no one else, I did the same thing 2 years ago and have a checking with them with a debit-card offcourse, and 4 savings accounts with ASP (automatic savings plan)and a regular IRA and a ROTH IRA and I LOVE IT. I have not used a stamp in ten years (don't know what the going rate is even).
On top of that I check my account online 24-7-365 even at Sunday-night ,or whenever if you need to check the balance, now you are in control my FRIEND, ! GOOD LUCK and my God bless you.

I didn't have a credit card when I signed up with Paypal, I used my debit card which has a Visa logo. You can get one from your bank--and if you have a bank, switch to a credit union! They have cheaper everything and even free checking and savings.
I had bad experiences with credit cards when I was younger--due to my own ineptitude--and didn't have one again till recently. It gives me 1% of my purchases back in the form of contributing towards my mortgage principal. I charge everything but gas and food on there--things I can't get out of control on!--and pay it off in full every month. My credit is better than before (it was good enough to get me a house then!) and it's helping pay off my house.
You don't have to have a credit card and if you don't want to, don't. But a debit card will open doors for you that are shut if you have no type of card at all.

For paypal you need not have credit card, just a visa / master card ATM or debit card is enough. You can connect the paypal account with your savings account in your bank. You can get the money transferred to your savings account and use as you would otherwise.
No don't go in for a credit card, all are trying to get out of it. I have also and got a debit card now. I also have a paypal account. As soon as you can give them your Bank code and link them both. That should be enough for you.

I would start out with 1 card. With a $300 limit. Make sure to pay at least the minimum payment EVERY month. This way, you will build a good credit report. Eventually your credit card company will give you a bigger limit for paying on time. If you want to get a house or a car in the future, I would suggest doing that. If you know you can't handle more than 1 card, I would just stick with 1 card.

I am also someone who doesn't have a credit card. I think I don't really need a credit card. If I can afford buying something I will do it cash, I quite fear of using credit card too much until I can't afford it. I want to avoid it and that's why I never applied for it until today.
I always try to find another solution for any international payment issues. back then I used moneygram and asked the people if they could receive / send moneygram to me. some of them said they could. maybe you have to find out the best payment processor that works for you too.
but each person has each way of thinking. I think as long as you are careful enough in using your credit card, there will not too much problem.

Hello! you should do what I do and buy a Greendot prepaid card at Walgreens! That's the ONLY credit card I ever have over the internet. However much cash you put in to it is your choice, so you know what your limit is! Plus you can "reload" it at anytime by buying dollars. There is a $4.95 monthly fee, but that's nothing compared to high interest Credit Cards! You can use it just like a credit card anywhere, even online. I wish you luck in your business :)
