I heard a saying once, 'The less you talk, the more you are listened to.' Do you think that this is true? Explain?

Look at my personal profile and read my slogan. Listening and waiting for others to talk first is the best way to do. Only in quiet time we are able to hear what we are thinking...:)))

Yes, I agree. I talk too much and I know that my husband would listen to the important things that I say much more if I didn't talk as much. WHen someone talks alot, like me, it's hard for others to decipher what is important to listen to and what not to listen to. Also, if you talk alot at work, people have to tune the 'talker' out so they can get their work done. We used to host a bible study at our home, we had one man who RARELY spoke up. But, when he did, we KNEW it was from his heart and very important. So, I totally agree with this statement.

In some ways I sort of think there's a ring of truth to this saying. When somebody is known for talking excessively, lots of times others end up tuning them out. The person who only talks when they have something to say might seen as being a thinker...one who only replies when they have something valid and important to add.

rotflmao Cnurse I have always heard it, "the more you talk the less I listen". Either one is very hard for me to do, for I am a talker, and I do not stop talking until I feel I have been heard and understood. But I see the merit here in the saying, sometimes our own insistent gibbering keeps us from being heard the way we want to to. If we would just shut up and do some listening ourselves the issue becomes so much clearer for all.

Yes, I think this is true. When man talk, mostly it is kind of reaction according to a small part of his knowledge. So talking is a action to release already owned knowledge, but listening can give many information you never know before. Hence, we need to stop talking and try to listen to others. Thats my point.
