Why don't people have discussion?

Okay this is a discussion place right? Why don't people go back and leave comments? I give a lot of responses expecting the person who started the discussion to leave a comment. I don't get it. If this is a discussion board where's all the discussions? I try to leave a comment on most of my responses. What do you do?

Its not that they don't want to leave a comment on some of the discussions. It just so happens that they don't have anything to share in regards to a particular topic.
Would you like to receive a vague response or one that could still suffice a nice discussion?

Those words you just mentioned are just tags. It really depends on the content of the discussion which would really make it a hot topic or not in regards to the amount of responses that you'd get.
Start an interesting topic. ^_^ You've already done that with this one that we're responding to.

I think its the common problem here with users. may be people are just busy starting and answering discussion. May be they think why waste time when it is not going to pay you all. But i believe it increases the visibility of the discussion anyway.

First off I love your pic SOO cute!
Second... I don't know if commenting gets you more money it is some thing that I read different every where. It does keep you getting responses which does bring in more pennies. Its just 1 more penny in the bucket one day its gonna add up.

eb... like i was talking to you about i dont think its a directly more money but instead its about the overall. My understanding is this... imagine the overall discussion is orange at the grocery store. the orange is evaluated and placed in a bin for individual sell or could be baged for sell as part of a group depending on quality. the price per pound is based on quality of the orange. now to make the quality of our orange on here be higher is to comment and respond as much as possible. with all the replies to this one for example it will be judged to be worth more then say the discussion on where you want to vacation. the algorithm that mylot uses for payment will asign a higher "price per pound" everyone involved there for will get a little bit more when it sales. now of course there is other factors. this was just an attempt to better explain why commenting is important. basicly they WANT us to be chating not just answering. hoping that helps out and made a little sense.

I read all the replies and answer some, some times I do not have anything to say to a reply, some times I have said what I would say in another response - but I usually do not attempt to reply to all simply because it takes about 3 minutes to refresh a page at mylot for me. it is a major time constraint.

I think that you are completely right, I expect people to comment and repsond to my insight. Most of the time I don't get that, and its very annoying. I try my best to respond at least to most of the comments in my discussions, leaving some kind of conversation. I think that lots of people get on here and just want a whole lot of comments, which is obsurd. You will receive more comments and better pay if you do better, which means putting some effort forth. These people aren't putting any effort forth at all, and it makes me sick.

Thank you for your response! On the dumb questions like whats your favorite color I don't expect to make a whole discussion out of it. But when your talking about say parenting and you answer and the person doesn't acknowlegde that you responded its discougaging.

I remember when some higher up discussion people would get upset if I just said thank you for your input. They would report me and stuff, which I think is simply ridiculous. I find myself having more bad responses than good, but you know its about discussion you can't be good at everything. You certainly can't make everyone happy lol.

I was thinking the same thing. Most of my comments are unreplied, so it pretty much takes the fun and excitement out of it. This is my third week on mylot, so I'm taking it slowly and just commenting for now. When I get the hang of things then, I will be starting discussions.
So far, not even a handful of people responded to me... so I was beginning to think that perhaps my comments are boring and not worth responding to? LOL.. I don't know.

Hey Lady! Going slow is a great way to start out until you get the hang of it and see what kind of discussions get good responses and therefore will earn you the most pennies. And, of course, many people are under the impression that you don't get paid for responding to responses. But, according to Crash, you do. Welcome and good luck!

Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't depending on my family demands and time. I don't always get back. In fact today is the first time in months I actually have spent a lot of time on discussions and comments and not getting disturbed by kids and demands. Probably cause their mom is now done with school and home now and taking over their homeschooling and I get more time to be on the net than I have since last spring.

I try to go back and comment on the responses to my discussions. But sometimes I forget. Also, if there is only a few words left as an answer, I don't feel that it requires acknowledgment on my part. According to Crash, we do get paid for responding to others responses. I had been under the impression that additional responses to discussions did not have an impact on earnings.

We don't get paid for commenting so some people probably don't for that reason, I like to anyway because as you say the point of starting a discussion is to discuss the subject you bought up.
commenting on a response also bumps your discussion back up to the top of the list of "discussions my friends started" so even if you are only out to make money it helps to get more responses to your discussion if you comment.

I thought the same thing until I read some of the answers from Crash. Reading through those it says that if you comment and comment back it brings the discussion higher which makes you more money. So I guess it helps the person who started the discussion not necessarly the commenters.

Because I get email notification on my discussions, it seems very easy to go back and leave a comment. I almost always do - maybe not in a few hours or a day, but I try to do so usually in a very short time. It's just good manners to acknowledge the person I think. I'm cleaning house today tying up any discussion left open ended. I go through my discussions started and see if I'm the last person who responded, so I may miss a few every now and then. I probably won't make more than a few cents today, but no big difference anyway there. Whit

i don't make many discussions as i have no idea what to talk about thus i'm usually responding to posts most of the time. but for the few discussions i have, i definitely make it a point to post no matter how long it takes me. i won't be online all the time so i won't be able to do it fast but still i will post.
like someone said, they probably do not post due to not getting paid for the comments. but we do actually get paid. it's just that the pay for comments differ. we get paid more if the reply back is valuable and helpful.
well as for some, it could also be due to valid reasons. maybe there is some problem thus they are not online at all.

i know what you mean. one of my discussions was a simple one. i mean the answer was basically the same you could say. but it was tough responding to all. had to write the same thing. in fact, i think i too missed a few there. but now, i try to at least just say thank you too.

well it's maybe the thread owner have no intantion in future discussion... so he/she just made the first post and give the rest to others.
But i agree with you that it will become no discussion if no reply. I try to leave my comment to, not only to answer but also to respect someone who replies mine :)

I am 100% with you. I always leave comments for all responds to my discussions.
One year ago, it was one discussion that gave me over 700 responds...I comment maybe 400....the only discussion that I didn't or couldn't do it all by myself...
This is what happen. Mylot pointed many times that comments are not paid. People rush for money and don't comment.
I stopped responding to users who don't care.
HUGS!

Before when i was still new i always leave comments to everyone who responded my post but after a couple of months i have tried my best to respond to even just for few but i as i only have limited time i couldn't respond to all. I know some of my friend wonder but i only have an hour in the internet cafe and i have to do a lot of multi-tasking so i can't respond to all. You're good you can respond to all. Some mylotters like me has only limited time or busy on their work and family and other staff. All have different reason but i'm sure even they don't responf or leave comments they appreciate the respond as i do appreciate all friends and mylottters that respond on my discussion. Have a nice day to you!

You may simply need to choose more responsible friends for your myLot buddy list, as quite a few of us here are very conscientious about replying, and it shouldn't be an issue of whether we get paid for the responses or not (even though of course we do!), it is just common courtesy to discuss things in a discussion rather than doing the hit and run kind of penny grabbing some folks here are guilty of.
You might take note of which people do reply and start following them around to see who their friends are and follow them, too, in order to broaden your network. :-)

I have plenty of good discussion friends but I don't just answer there questions. I answer a lot of questions from people that are not friends. I just think that a lot of people don't understand what this site is. If you have commen sence its easy to figure out. When you want to ask a question you go to "start a discussion" because its a discussion not just you ask a question you get an answer and thats the end of it. They have a comment place for the continuation of the discussion.

One person who had been on my friend list actually posted a follow-up "discussion" for the sole purpose of telling the people on her friend list that SHE didn't have TIME to reply to any of the individual comments she got to her previous discussion so she would just give one answer! Well, that was NOT a discussion, and blissfully was removed by myLot staff. What you say is so true. We shouldn't have to go to the profile of each person we might wish to reply to and check out the reputation, so to speak, before joining a discussion. The problem you are exposing here tends to create insular behavior here, because when people abuse the concept of a discussion then some of us tend to cling more closely to our trusted friends. Great point.

I try to respond to everyone but I have found a few times when it is hard so I dont. For instance if everyone had about the same reponse I dont want to repeat my response 30 times because it would not seem genuine. I also dont want to reply to just one and offend the rest even though I have nothing different to say. The other situatoin is sometimes I vehemently object to the response but I didnt start the discussion to argue or bash anyone elses belief or opinion so I do not respond. Maybe I am wrong in this but I thought I was doing a good thing, lol. Advise me on these situations if you like.

Thats what I like about MyLot you can disagree and thats what can make the discussion so much fun. I have a couple discussions going on right now that I keep going back to and its ongoing. I look forward to getting a response back even from the people that I disagree with. Thanks for your response. And by the way I repeted myself A LOT on this discussion because a lot of the answers we repetes. I personally would rather the discussion starter to say some thing rather then nothing.

I have onlybeen here for 4 weeks and I have responded to every single response and back again if the discussion is continuing rather than just a comment with the exception of one and they just answered yes so there was not a lot I could say. I suppose I could have put thank you for your response but it was a discussion that really needed more than a yes no answer. I think by responding that is when friendships build, the money is just a bonus. I am not actively trying to achieve a payout as some do but of course a little extra helps. I totally agree with you and it is also polite to reply, manners cost nothing as they say. Ellie :D
