Do you sometimes forget to pick up things like your pen, bag, wallet, mobile, umbrella I-Card or hanky etc.., while going out. I believe it happens with every one and when we come to know that we have forgotten one of the important things at our home, we feel very bad. How many times it happens with you and what do you do when you come to know that you have forgotten something important at your home. Please share your experiences. Thanks in advance.

I wasn't like that and had a perfect memory.
But now after 2 kids, I find that I am forgetful too....and I know why. There's too many things about the kids on my mind. As I leave the door, I'm mostly wondering 'Did I forget something important'. Now I've started making lists (I used to earlier too but not for general things) to remember to take things that I cannot do without.
If I forget and remember later, I buy a new one (if it is something that can be bought without spending too much and if buying then serves the purpose) or else I just have to go back and get it (like a baby bottle).

It is good that you make a list to remind yourself, it is a great idea!

I ahte it when I forget my lists. I make a list of things I want to do and get done each day and it drives me crazy when I forget it in my pocket and wash it. It also drives me nuts when i make lists for the stores I need to shop at and when I get there, I don't have it because it is at home on the table. Then I have to try and think hard of what all I needed to get.

Deepak,
I think, we all kind of forget small small things like pen, wallet, hanky and stuff like that. This, I would say carelessness more than anything else. Real forgetfulness is forgetting important dates or incidents altogether. And I hardly do that. I never miss any appointments or special occasions or incidents. In fact, sometimes I feel I would have been better off if I could forget certain gross things. But then, that's life. We have to live the hurdles as well.
However, I am very good at doing the kind of carelessness you are talking about. I keep forgetting little little things. Once I decked up in good clothes for a party, just perfectly accessorised. But when I traveled 2-5 mins, I realised that I did not change my footwear!! I was still wearing my home slippers. I was already running late but had to come back all through and change it. I did not want to look bad.
*laughs*

one time, i bought a cd in a music shop and then headed to a bookstore to browse on new titles.. i was able to get a new book and on my way out, noticed that my new pokemon cd eluded my other hand.. sigh.. even since gradeschool, i always forget my school id or wallet or cellphone.. that's why whenever in the car, my father always has this ceremonial like tradition "wallet? cellphone? id?".. i've graduated from college and i still practice that as i pass the door.. but then again, as habitual as it may sound, there are times when i still forget either my company id and cellphone.. i often just put money in my pocket instead fo bringing money - one less thing to think about..

Hello deepak! Well sometimes, I am really forgetful. Everytime I clean the house, I forgot where I put the things that when it's time for me to use it I can't remember where I put it. I also have the tendency to forget something especially everytime I plan to go out.

Hello! Aisa!
We all tend to forget sometimes, because our mind remains preoccupied with so many thoughts and tensions. I am like you, I also forget many things and then my better half shouts at me - saying - 'you are a hopeless fellow..........'
Many thanks for joing and sharing.
Deepak
Am waiting for reply to my PM.

I am definitely a victim of forgetfulness as it is just happened to me again today. When I went back to my car in the parking garage at work, I noticed that I did not close my car door completely or lock it. It was slightly open, probably not too noticeable, but I did open it without having to put the key in or having to pull the handle much. I could not believe how I could forget to close my door and lock it. Fortunately, nothing was taken from my car. Now I will probably be double or triple checking the door to make sure.

It seldom happens to me that I would forget to bring those important things while I am going out. It's like at maximum once a year! But the thing these days is I discover that I would forget to do something, like I have a list on my mind, but then I would forget one or two items in the list and the same happens during my grocery shopping *laughs*, guess I am getting old.

Who in this world hasn't had a bout of forgetfulness! I have often forgot things I needed to take with me when I left the house in the morning or even forgot what I was talking about while I was talking. I think my most embarrassing time was when I forgot to pick my grandson up at school until after I got home and realized he wasn't home yet. Of course I quickly drove to the school and got him but how awful he must have felt because grandma forgot him.
I think there are lots of reasons we forget things such as stress, too much on our minds at one time and of course age. Now that I am older I tell myself (and other people) that I am not forgetful because of my age, it is just that I know so much I have to forget things so I can learn new things. Sounds good to me.

Hi Deepak,
yes i used to forget things when i am in urgency but i remember before i reach my gate,
but i try to check everything before i go out, & never have the habbit to forget things frequently,
if you forget 1 day it is a mistake, if you forget 2 day then people around you notice you, & when it starts to continue every one will come to know that you are forgetfull,
so why take risk & a name that you are forgetfull,
rectify things when it is small & before you make it a habbit & grow..
Have a nice day

thank God i don't have this syndrome. maybe because of coffee. i heard someone say that coffee helps improve a person's memory. im a coffee lover. i know someone who forgets alot of things. and it's my cousin. she even forgets to flush the toilet bowl after pooping. really disgusting. one time i asked her to boil some water and it took about 20 minutes before she realized she forgot to turn the burner on. LOL. i don't know about her. she's only 21 and she's so forgetful.

I notice it the most when I'm under stress. I've been stressed out by ongoing layoffs with my company and lately, I can have something in my hand and less than a minute later have no idea where it went.

Nowadays I am forgetting the names of the people I have met.
This reminds me of one of Kushwant singh's jokes I read recently.
'A friend of a ninety year old gentle man was so touched and impressed with the old man calling his wife honey, darling, and sweet pumpkin every now and then. He told the old man that he is so appreciative of his affection towards his wife even at that age.
The old man replied that her darn name has slipped from my mind two years ago and I am scared to hell to ask her name.'

Hi deepak,
This is a very common problem now a days. My problems are even more acute, I open the fridge door and stand there thinking why did I open it....I come from one room to another for some work and don't remember what it was until I go back to the place from where I had started.
Now a days, I don't forget things, because things I put carefully in my purse because I know I will forget, but I forget what was told to me , or what I have to do... may be I need lot off badam pista........lol
My hubby says "you will forget me one day".......lol, and I tell him good then you can go to another beauiful young girl.....:))

If itsomething like purse or wallet then I have to go back but if it is pen or cell i don't like to go. We can manage it anyway. Once I was caught in a bank without a pen. No one had one in their hand either. So I had to go out, buy a pen, get in and sign. Sometimes itis very troublesome dear. Don't you think so?
I usually forget to do something in the kitchen. Once I forgot to put my gas stove off, luckily my husband was there at home and so he put that off before it got late.
