Do you dye your hair at home or in the hair salon?

I have never dyed my hair. Since my husband has some white hair, so he asked me about coloring the hair. I told him that I could do for him as I could buy the good quality brand for it and it will be trustworthy than going to dye the hair in the hair salon in my opinion. Today finally I bought the coloring stuff and I just finished it for my husband. Frankly, since I have never known this kind of things, so the instruction seems so complicated for me and I had to read it very carefully so that I can dye hair for my husband. Fortunately the result is good and I am quite satisfied with it.

I don't have the patience to sit in a chair and have anything done to my hair so I color my hair myself. I don't know about mens hair color but I find the instructions to do mine very easy. I've been doing it so long that I don't even need them any more. I'm glad the results came out good and you are satisfied.

I color my own hair only because it cost's too much at a salon.I love to have someone do my hair or just mess with it.I remember in school when we were watching a movie usually the girl behind me would always mess with my hair.I loved it and still do.I ask my daughter to and she won't.When I go get a shampoo and haircut and the shampoo is over I am always saying to myself,"It's over already ?" If I had the money I'd pay the lady extra to take her time. It's so relaxing.

Yep.. Something new has to learnt on a trial and error basis. Go friend.. do the coloring duty on your hubby's hair. Even if it doesnot turn to be good, why must we bother?.. hehehe..lol.. ... but make sure to tell him that " You look very smart and so young than ever before"... lol.. .. Only then he will allow you to apply dye for next time.. lol:) Just kidding.. pal. Have a good day.

I think all men think the same:) My husband already doesn't allow me to dye hair for him again as he said. He said it's quite troublesome. But it's the same for him to dye the hair in the hair salon. My friend even had stayed in the hair salon for nearly 8 hours to make her hair. She wanted to have silk flat hair. After that, she dyed her hair. This is why she spent so long time there. If my husband experiences it, he will faint:) I think I just spent him about an hour.

I have never trusted those home dye colour packets to be honest, and if you get it wrong your hair looks awful and it takes yonks to wash out, so when I used to colour my hair in my early twenties I always went to a hair salon, I have had my hair highlighted and bleached blond. When I went to college I found that they do hair well the students do the hair supervised by the teachers and the prices were fantastic, they just charge you for the stuff they use on your hair and its so reasonable that I always went back there when I wanted my hair coloured. I dont bother now Im in my late 30s although I am getting a few grey hairs!

Hmmm... I started to wonder whether the home dye colour packets I bought are expensive. You remind me of the price. It seems yes. But I hope the quality will be better, as my husband's hair looks nice now. Besides, I think it will have less harmful because it may be similar or higher price than going to the hair salon.

Since I was in my teenage years, that's all I really did was color my own hair. Just last year, I went to a lady who has her own salon in her garage and she cut and colored it for me. Since then, I wouldn't ever dye my own hair again! She did an amazing job and it never damaged my hair either.

I still think if it's not so necessary, dying the hair less is healthier. After all, this kind of things are full of chemical stuff.

lol...I don't dye my hair either. I have very few grey hair but I think they are increasing now. Anyways I'm too lazy to dye them. I did it for my husband once (because he wanted to). I had to read the instructions on the pack and do it. But we both decided it was too much work and never repeated it after doing it twice.

I've heard that myth too..but since I don't pick my white hair...I have no clue if it is true.

I heard that people said not to pick off your white hair, as it'll grow more after that. I wonder whether it's true.

Whew! You are much more daring than me. I don't think I'd trust myself to attempt dying someone's hair. But I do have to say though, that I helped a friend put highlights in her hair. . . Once. Aaack! I was a nervous wreck by the time it was all done. I think it took me something like four hours to do it--and her hair wasn't that long either. I was just so afraid I would mess up and do too much the highlighted color and she'd come out looking like a Billy Idol impersonator with all platinum hair. That and I kept poking the poor girl with that little pick-thingy you use to pull the hair through the bonnet. Glad things turned out well for you and hubby's hair. Looks like you may have just gotten yourself a standing job for whenever it needs to be dyed again. Greatest thing is that you'll probably save tons of money not having to get it professionally done. :-)

My hair is coloured about three times a year, mainly to cover the grey lol, my daughter is a hairdresser so she mainly looks after my hair but in between I use a wash out colour it seems to work for me, its usually a case of apply it all over leave for about thirty minutes and there you go. I have had the odd occassion where I have chosen the wrong colour but as its only temporary it soon washes out.

I always do my own hair. I usually get coupons that save a bit and grab them on sale also so I usually only spend a few dollars on a kit. So the cost is fabulous. A friend of mine goes to the salon and spends $85 every 6 weeks for hers! I usually do it every second month when the grays start coming through. I have to trouble with and it comes out looking good most of the time. I did have a time where is was supposed to be dark brown and end up black but I easily fixed that. I have been doing my own hair since I was about 14. I never really have been "natural" since then. I used to love changing up the colors and being funky, but now it is basically to cover grays. LOL

I have only dyed my hair three times. The first time was when I was in high school. I really wanted to have my hair turn brown so I bought this box of hair dye from the supermarket. I didn't want to ask help from my mom so I locked myself in the bathroom and did it myself. Bad idea. I put it all over my hair and it turned out really ugly. The next day, my mom took me out to the salon and that's when I got my first professional hair dye. It is a whole lot better if it were professionals handling your hair. It turned out really great. It was not just an ordinary hair dye anymore. They put some highlights and made it look really good. After that first time, I came back again when I was in college. They pretty much did the same thing. I remember it was really scary for the girl in the next seat. She was having her hair dyed into this ice queen blonde type of color. You could literally see her hands shaking and she was cringing half of the time and tears were falling down her eyes. Yikes. But her hair did turn out great. Luckily. I am glad that you are satisfied with the result of your hair dye on your husband. The one time I tried it was a mess. I guess you are better at following instructions.

I can't dye hair for myself because I found it's already not easy to do it for my husband. It will be much more difficult to do it yourself.

At home. My hair is usually long and i just ask my mum to cut the problematic edges.I also use a good hair cosmetic and that`s enough for my hair. Just at very special ocasions i go to salon for something different.

Yes, after all, dying hair isn't a healthy way. But sometimes it's hard to avoid when you have white hair and you feel annoyed to it.

I have one time had my hair dyed at the salon... it ended up looking the same when I left as when I went in. I have tried at home a couple times with not very good results. perhaps I am not meant to mess with my hair so much?

I've never dyed my hair either. Maybe I'll dye it when I get older or when it starts turning grey. If I was to dye my hair I would dye it at home. Its much cheaper that way. I'm glad to hear that the results were good.

I only had my hair dyed at a hair salon once then stopped. Now, I have my mother to do that. She volunteers to do the work, as she's frustrated to see my premature grey hairs sprouting from my head!lol! I started having premature grey hair when I was still in grade school. I think it runs in my family as I have an aunt who had the same thing, too. When my mom sees that my grey hair are just too much for her eyes to handle, she gets her stock of coloring stuff, then demands that I sit down for a hair coloring session. :) It's great because I get a free service, not to mention an extra loving hair service.

I always have it at home so then I can manage the chemicals used in my hair and at least if something happened to your hair you got no one to blame and the plus is you get to save the money specially if you know how to dye your hair..
