Do you eat while you're on the computer? Do you spill stuff on the computer?

I've given up eating while I'm on the computer. I don't even put a cup of coffee on the desk beside it anymore. I'm sick of sticky keyboards from kids spilling stuff and dribbling crumbs on it. And I ruined a keyboard with a coffee spill. I keep food nearby within a long stretch to reach. LOL. Have you ever had food accidents by your computer? Do you have food and drink nearby while you are working away online? What do you like to have nearby to munch on while your're there?

I chew on ice all the time, I don't know what it is, I just simply have a penchant for ice. Anyway, I'm always dropping ice in the keyboard and I'm waiting for it one day short out. My boyfriend will kill me when that happens and I'll be ticked because I'll have to buy a new keyboard.

Eating ice is usually an iron deficiency... get some B- complex vitamins so you can draw iron from your food.

Thankfully no accidents yet. I only drink my cup of coffee in the morning ocassionally while on the computer. My hubby used to be a web developer for a major company. The no crumbs thing came into play when he was showing me how to operate a MAC. So far so good.

Oh couldn't those crumbs be vacuumed up? Actually, it's good not to start, we are such creatures of habit...whit

I am not a huge eater or muncher but always have something to drink near the computer. Have a cup of coffee to the right of the mouse. I also ruined a keyboard with a regular soda months ago.I have a water resistant keyboard now but am still not running the risk of having a drink real close by. I also have a tv tray to the left of the keyboard where I keep crafts and have a coaster for water or soda later in the day. I eat up here all the time when I am home alone. It's boring sitting at the kitchen table alone. I might miss something on myLot! Our kids are grown so don't have to worry about spills with kids. We do have a cat but she's not interested in what I'm drinking and won't bother anything. She's older just like myself..lol

I'm not feeling brave enough to spill water purposely on the keyboard to find out if it's waterproof...lol It wasn't an expensive keyboard but is black and my tower and screen are off white. Looks rather dumb but it all works fine for me. I do work on crafts when I get tired of sitting at the computer face to face.

I had to go see about these water resistant keyboards. Very cool - also contaminant resistant as far as that goes. Also saw the waterproof one that folds up. I'm getting a visual of you at the computer, crafts to do at your side in-between myLot?, drinks at the ready...You are way so prepared. Found my dog on the computer desk the other day looking out the window - you never know. whit

I am eating while I'm reading/responding to this. How? Well, I have my keyboard on the keyboard tray UNDER the surface the food is on.... It also keeps the cats off the keyboard.

Taj - a pix of my baby, Taj
The cats aren't supposed to be in here, but the kitten can still crawl under the door - well, maybe not, he hasn't the last 2 days... but I have Taj who sometimes gets in and he is all over me when he does. The roomie, on the other hand, has a problem with the cats sending IMs and they cannot spell!

I had one of those trays when I had a real desk, sigh, I'll have another one soon. I've heard about cats that surf the internet...haha

I eat thing like grapes, or baby carrots and cauliflower... I can't spill those! I have my coffe when I get up once an hour... I don't need to get saddlebags and a sore back from sitting here too long... I'm trying hard to get well!

You must be trying hard to get well - that's healty snacking. I know what you mean about getting up every hour too - I get way too sore and hurting and I should know better.

Sadly, despite knowing the risks, I often have a beverage of some sort sitting right beside me on the desk...within inches of my laptop! Luckily, I have not had any liquid to spill into the keyboard. I did have one spill, but the liquid went the opposite direction of the computer! I often eat while sitting at the computer too. There are crumbs around my desk! The things I am most likely to be caught with at the computer are: hot tea, occassional soft drink, cereal, pretzels and toast. (not at the same time of course!)

The eating must be a sort of multi-tasking then, or just like eating in front of the tv which is another great habit I'm getting rid of. Whit

Yes, I've been known to eat and drink near my computer. And there have been many mishaps. Nothing like a dirty keyboard. The incident I remember is when there was a glass left on the desk and during the night, the cat knocked it over onto the keyboard. So I always make sure now that there isn't anything left on the desk to spill onto the keyboard.

Hmm, maybe the cat is surfing at night unbeknownst? Over here, it could be anyone knocking stuff over and saying "I didn't know, what did you put that there for anyway, etc etc.."

I do eat by the computer but I try not to lean ver it to eat and it is only stuff like potatoe chips and things like that that are super easy to clean up. My pop and coffee are always on the table beside the computer cause if something happened I would feel soooo bad!

Easy for you to clean up maybe. My family either 1) can't close their mouth while chewing, or can't get the food to their mouth, because the crumbs fall like rain... And I'm voting for no liquids on the same surface too...whit

i don't have a dining room table, so i often eat at my desk while on the computer. however, i'm very careful not to spill anything on the computer. this thing was expensive and i wouldn't want to damage it!

Like I just said, I wouldn't want to replace this computer, because I don't know when the next one would be here. I bought low end stuff this time around and did some very fancy budget juggling for a few months.

It's one of those habits I can't break. I never did spill stuff but I often leave crumbs behind which prompted me to occasionally clean the computer area.

Haha see above giftsandbags technique of turning over keyboard and wacking it, I really like that one. I have a tiny vaccuum I should use occasionally. Can't seem to bring myself to buying the cans of air..whit

Country Valentine - Valentines Day
Good morning Whittby:)) yes indeed my friend I have had numerous accidents at my desk here. By far the worst one was when I spilled a whole bowl of campbells chicken and stars soup all over my keyboard and desk. Man you just have no idea how many stars are in a can until you are trying to clean it up. There has been coffee spills, baby puke, and once a slice of pizza hit cheese side down. My computer tower and other peripherals are well protected, it's usually my keyboard taking the hits. Its a good thing I work in a computer shop as I go through about 5 keyboards a year.

Yes, I have had more than one accident spilling something on my computer. I grit my teeth when I have done that and swear that I will never have drinks near my computer again. But since I like to drink water a lot I end up still bring water to the computer while I am on there. Most time I don't have food here though. I generally am busy typing so I really don't have time to eat anything though. Only once when I spilled something on my keyboard did I have to replace it. I am very careful now. Of course the only thing I drink is water especially while I am on the computer.

My husband and I only have laptops. While we have a desk we keep these on we try to keep the drinks as far away as we can. Our cats like to jump up there sometimes. We never keep cups full of drinks so a little jolt won't spill it and caps are always kept on bottled water. With laptops, we can't afford to spill any drinks on it. If we ruin our keyboard it sort of ruins the whole computer if you know what I mean. We have been lucky so far and I hope this question doesn't jinx us lol. We will snack around the computers but the large and messy meals are done farther away. We try to keep our computers food and spill free.

I trust we didn't jinx you either! My dog gets up on the desk where I have the computer to look at the window so I understand about the cat business.. I can just see how a nice drink would be tempting to them.
