Are you the "trial and error" type person or do you check things out first?

Ok, I'll explain what I mean. I have a pair of curtains that I took from my Moms apartment when we were cleaning it out. I have a room where they would look great but I didn't bother to check them out. I just took the old curtains down and started to put these up when I realized they are the old fashioned kind that need hooks. I don't have any hooks and didn't bother to get any from my Moms apartment. I'm thinking about just cutting the pleats in the curtain and that would take forever but I may eventually do it! Do you check things out before you do it or do you just go for it and hope it's going to work? I do this with almost everything and never learn my lesson!

I have to agree with tink - buying some hooks would be easier and possibly save you some time. I kind of do both. I get excited and get it - let's say curtains - then it just doesn't fit right. Then my husband or I have to figure out way to make it work. Now the next time I go looking for curtain, I'll check them out closer, but let's say I go out looking for tablecloths. I might buy the wrong size because I didn't check out what size I needed before I left. I guess my lessons don't transfer in my brain. lol

I don't have that track for that type of drape since this is an older building. I know my Mom did have it in her apartment which is probably why there were no hooks on them.

PS - don't you need a special track for those types of curtains?

I believe there is a special track made for this type of hook, but based on the basic design of the hook itself, it's not absolutely necessary. Since it is a hook, it should fit over most rods - perhaps with a little shaping from a pliers.

Right when I started reading the discussion I knew I was a trial and error kinda person. Especially with curtains AHHHH I think for me it is that I want to get it done fast and also I sometimes think I am a know it all and just do things without checking everything first. Good example would be the kids fort outside I built without measuring anything at all. But we have had it for over 3 years and it is still standing so HAHAHA take that measuring tape. Just kidding. I probably should take things a little slower but I go by the motto learn to do by doing.

lol....I wanted to get those drapes up just to get the bag out of the way. Like you I think I know it all when it comes to things like this.

I do a bit of both. Sometimes I check it out to see if it's going to work and other times I just assume it is and do what I got to do. It doesn't always work out which is ok. I either give it away or find something that does work.

I am a trial and error type person. I like to try to do things myself. If after numerous tries I still can't do it then I'll go find someone that can. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Oh I am very much like you. I never check things out before doing and I sometimes end up paying the price afterwards when it doesn't work out. I not only do this with material things, but also with things on the internet. For example, I joined an affiliate site where you sell satelite TV dishes and I signed up to a one year contract. What a mistake that was. I had to pay $29.95 a month to AOL for this and I never sold a single dish. After about 5 months the manager at AOL finailly let me out of my contract. That was a costly mistake and if I had checked things out first I would have realized it was something that would be very difficult for me to sell because they weren't sold in Canada and I live in Canada.

LOL. I do that kind of thing alot too! But I'm resourceful and usually end up figuring out a way to jerry-rig whatever it is. In your case I'd just go to the hardware store and buy a box of hooks. They should have the kind that can just stab into the curtain pleats and then hook over the rod. Believe they should be pretty cheap too. It'd be a lot less work then cutting! -Tink Here is a picture (from the web) of what I'm talking about: http://tinyurl.com/292ryz

I know about the hooks and when I go to an appointment tomorrow I'll probably pick them up. Looking at those drapes I realize the work it would be to do what I was thinking of doing...no thanks!

To some extent I am trial and error person. I don't mind wasting time in calculating silly things. But for serious and important matters I take time and study each and every aspects.

its me... - this is my pic.. this was the time when i was trying to make a code for a java program.. its more of a trial and error..
Well, im a person who tries everything. So i can say that im more of a trial and error person. Its good because im learning from my mistake rather than just experiencing things and not learning from them. But sometimes i make sure that im doing what is right so that no more trial and error.

i wish i could do just that, the trial and error things but i am not like that, i am the type of person who never likes gambling into thin possibilities of things, i always want to lay my cards to where i can be sure of, that way there will be no regrets on my part. my type is those who think many times before doing something and i weigh things first before going through it.

I must admit, I am a 'trail & error" sometimes. But since I already have children, I am more cautious now. I scrutinize things first before using or doing anything with it. I am avoiding any accidents may occur.

What a great way to describe it! I just always thought I was impulsive. As much as I try to think about things and weight them up I end up just doing or going with what I wanted when the thought first struck me. I base decisions on how I feel not whether it's practical - like the excess of clothes I have in my cupboard that I never wear as nothing goes with them :-)

I am also a trial and error person. With that sometimes I am impulsive too. That's why I take care nowadays when I go shopping. I never take cards with me. I just take the cash , enough for my purchase and go. Many times the impulsiveness has made me buy things with which I get stuck at times. Now in your case you can adjust easily by buying some hooks and pinning it up.

I always check everything before I do it as just going for it is very much risky cause if you now find it unwanted later you will be in trouble.

I would have done the same thing you did! I am a 'grab the bull by the horns' type person and yes, often have to drop back and punt when I realize that something isn't going to work. however, interestingly, people come to me wanting help with projects because they are ususally 'afraid to try' something and like that I have tried and made something work. So it is a double-edged sword! I have numerous friends who say things like, "I'd be afraid to try something like that for fear that it wouldn't work..." about something I have done in my house. I say go for it, you'll never know if you don't try! By doing this, I have learned to improvise and find that often there are ways to make things work, even if you don't have all the exact pieces or equipment!

I am pretty much a trial and error person, ctry, and I can usually come up with a solution to any problem. Why not try to find some of those hooks? I know they are still around because I have some stored away myself. You might try finding them in a thrift store or Goodwill, or, barring that, a store like Joanne's that specializes in those types of things.

I am the same like you. I would just take the stuff hope it will fit and then i come home and i am all dissapointed and mad at myself, why i didn't check out. i mean speacialy when i am doing something and want it right now and buy all the stuff and then come home and realize something is missing, or something should be different. Oh, i get crazy

i usually study things first before i make a go. coz im a very impatient person. if i get a hard time doing it -- i end up letting it go. so what i do is sit and study it for a while before i start something. much like about handling dilemma's. but sometimes when im time pressured, my adventurous streak comes to life... i just go and go. compulsive behavior.
