Every year we sell flowers for mother's day and valentine's day. A friend of ours that owns a flower farm gives us flowers for free that we sell infront of my parents house. I cant remember how much we have raised over the past 5 years but I would say we make about $1500 each year. We choose an organisation each time and we take the money to them. so far we gave to: the cancer council (or something like that), breast cancer, an organisation for the blind, kids camp (which is for kids with disability), deaf kids and this year Autism Australia. All of this causes are close to our hearts and we like to help them as much as we can.

Hello Dear,I can see that you have a new Avatar!Nice! In my opinion the best way to celebrate Valentines Day and Mothers Day as well is some kind of work for charity!
This year,my children and me made more than 10 kg of all kind of cookies and we all sell for about $190US dollar!
We all donate for Green Organization in Croatia to save Adriatic seal/we are not sure but there are still from 2-10 seal families in our sea/!
Happy Valentines Day and i wish You That all Your Days became Valentines Day!
See You and Regards Silvana

That is great that you were able to raise so much money in one day for Charity. It is so nice of your friend to donate the flowers so you can donate all of the money that comes in instead of having to pay for the flowers with part of it.

The flowers usually would end up in the bin anyway as shops buy a lot and they use what is left for months (they keep them in a freezer) so after valentines day he has a quet period where he has lots of first grade flowers just seeting in the cooler. So it wors out great for everyone.

The sad thing here in Minneapolis Minnesota is that there are homeless people that rummage through the garbage bins on days like tomorrow to get the flowers then they travel from bar to bar selling them to get their own stuff. Maybe I can see it being done for food etc. But a lot use the cash from these "stolen" flowers for booze which is so wrong in my eyes.

Thanks dear yes I do hope that people are more caring somethimes as a lot of organisations do a lot for people in need and they are doing it with minimum money. I feel great knowing that our help might do some good for someone. eg the money we raised will mean that 1 child is closer to a proper assestment sooner (as it takes years on the waiting list or if you have $1200 they will do it in a week)

That's a noble thing Violeta. I also commend your neighbor who supplies you with free flowers. What you are doing is not only helpful to the needy but also very self-fulling I'm sure. You are a very helpful person and I'm sure many people are praying to bless you.

Thank for the kind words it means a lot. As the organisations we help have helped us at one point in our lifes (I am talking about my family) I feel great helping them or paying them back in some way.

Your sacrifice for the unprivileged is a humbling and noble calling. You could have gone out to celebrate on a special day like that but instead, your thoughts were on those who were in worse circumstances and who could benefit from someone's labor of love. I admire people like you and applaud what you do for these people. Please continue in your ways - God will reward you for your sacrifices. Oh yes, your friend who owns the flower farm deserves commendation too for making this all possible through the gift of these flowers. I truly feel humbled by what you do.

That's a most wonderful testimony. Your family must be lifted up as a fine example of how benevolence still exists in our cold and harsh society today. Through their participation, your children will learn from young the blessed virtues of humility and self-sacrifice, and grow up to be fine citizens and responsible people. ~ Victor

Thanks to you as well for the lovely and kind words. I feel blessed to be able to do it and to give something back to those that help people in a large scale. We often forget that every $ makes a difference to someone. Yes we could have gone out yesterday but working together with my family ment a lot more to me. My son kept calling people over (he is 4) to buy flowers (very cute), my 8 year old helped by colecting the money, giving change and puting the flowers in bags, my mother made the bunches, my father helped me when I had to go in the house or had to many people, sister and my husband helped as well so it was a family thing.

My youngest grandson has Autism. My wife, myself, our daughter and the oldest grandson did the Walk For Autism here in Minnesota in October. We raised $410 for them from friends etc. I actually got a couple members from here on myLot to donate as well. One was from Australia actually. I also give a lot of cash to the Salvation Army as we have used their services in the past and are ever so grateful for them. Grats to you for your charitable donations. Here is a picture of us just prior to the walk in the shirts for Autism we got for raising $100 minimum donation each.
