I keep my own private as well. They're to many lurkers on that website. I don't feel comfortable keeping it open to the public. I only allow my friends to view my personal pictures.

Mine is not private. I just recently learned how to navigate better on myspace. When I first got it I did it mainly to get extra chips on my poker website and add just poker friends. Then I added a few bands I like and listen to their music. I think I have lessoned my logging in on myspace to three times a week anyhow. So now I have several friends on there and find it nice to not see this users profile is set to private. I don't display my personal family pics for anyone to see because my friends can see them on my yahoo messenger when I show them pics of the kids.

Mine is open, but then, mine's not 100% personal. I work with various people who are wanting to network: bands, filmmakers, tv producers, etc. We are all independent workers, and we use Myspace to not only try and find new people to work with, but new fans to produce for. Some do this exclusively. I'm a F/T college guy, so my GI Bill helps pay, and I can do this part time. What's really big is that Myspace has been in the top 10 sites, worldwide, for a couple of years. This means, to us, that if we'd like to get a decent following, and not have big labels jerk us around, we have that option, thanks to myspace, as well as some other sites, like youtube!

mines private.. there was a case of people stealing baby pictures, and ultrasound pictures, so thats when mine when private. i know now there are ways to see pictures and profiles that are private, but i would rather not let the average creep steal my pics. sometimes i will take it off private, but my pics are always set to friends only..
i HATE when i get to a profile thats private lol it annoys me soo much, but normally they are doing it for the same reason as me.. i think if i were to be "single" and not in a serious relationship, and was TRYING to find men, then i wouldn't have it private lol but i have no interest in meeting other men, and women if they wanna see a profile will normally just add you anyway.

Mine is non-private, but then again it's also very nonpersonal :P (eg i have no real life contacts, no personal information about me and absolutely no pictures of me or people i know)
As one user commented, it IS a social network, so i don't mind it being public, also i am not that active so i guess any kind of probability a creep will come across it or something like that gets lowered :P
I believe in your case it'd make a whole lot of sense to have it on private tho, i try to be extra careful not to give personal info around...i'm probably being paranoid but better safe than sorry :P

mine is not private I feel why have one if its just gonna be private. everyone has their own reasons but im on there to find new friends and old friends. I really cant stand when someone wants to add me with a private profile, cause then I have no idea who it even is or why they would want to add me.

Well, my site is public, because I think, the whole intention of a web community like MySpace is about showing off yourself a little for others to read and see.
But for the protection of teenagers and children, it's a good idea to have the option to set it on private status.

My MySpace page is public. If I wanted to remain private, I would not put my profile on a site like MySpace, but for those who prefer to do so, or who prefer only to be known by their family members and those they choose, I'm glad they have the option.

Mine is not private... you know what... if anyone wants to know anything about you.. they will find it out...
I just got done finding my birth mom... and I had nothing ... not even a name to start with... after figuring out how to get her name... with in 4 months I was talking to my birth grandmother...
and they did not even know how to work a computer... so they were not activily on the net...
so basically... if I wanted to know anything about someone... I could figure out a way to do it... so why hide it... kwim???

My MySpace page is not private. I think it would defeat the purpose of being on a social networking site. I always hope to find people that I used to go to school with and old friends that knew me by a different name. If I made my page private, they would never find me. I'm always looking for new friends that might actually talk on MySpace anyway instead of just posting graphic comments back and forth.
