How often do you buy take-away (fast food) food?

I probably buy take away food once a week, such as MeDonalds. Even then I still get annoyed thinking how much money I wasted on junk food. However I find I usually buy a snack or drink from the shop everyday. I often wonder how much money I would save if I did not impulse buy when out and about and just ate and drank at home.
How about you, do you buy fast food a lot? Do you find you are spending a lot of money each week on take-aways?

Hi dear
i am not much fan of fast food and prefer to eat home. home cooked food is best, its healthy and tasty. if i eat out a lot then i feel acidity and i dont like it
but if i have to buy from outside then i prefer KFC and Pizza hut more than Mc donald
sure its saving of money as well saving of health
and one week ends we can make good burgers at home
LOl
see how wise we are, but i dont mind dinning out with family once in a while as outing
Take care

I agree with you cupid, you can cut back on fast foods but it is still nice to dine out with family one in a while. Thanks for your reply.

We were having a lot of takeways up to the beginning of the year, probably about 2 a week and then sandwiches and things from the shop as well. But this year I wanted to save and have my garden done, so I wrote down each week what I was spending then looked at what could be cut out or cut down on and when we stopped buying all the snacks and takeaways I was able to put a lot more away. So hopefully if I keep this up I will get my garden done ready for the summer. You will be surprised how much you save if you dont buy snacks and takeways each week I was!

Hi geminirose, yeah I have started last couple of weeks writing down exactly where all my money went. And that is why I am shocked to see how much money actually goes on snacks here and there and take away food. I am currently looking at how I can cut back as my goal is to pay off some of my debts. I think it is good that you have goal to get your garden done that way you are more likely to stay on track and not spend money of take outs. Thanks for your response.

I seldom by some, if ever they were only meant for snacks and not as a heavy meal. I have worked on food chains and restaurants here, I got used of the food they serve.
For me, nothing still beats freshly home-cooked meals. It has a longer shelf life and the taste still stays the same, even though the food gets cold. Not to mention the money we saved, since the prices of such foods bought from these restaurants can provide you a whole day's meal already..

i love mcdonalds. there is a mcdonalds at where i work. every morning or every other day, i always go down to mcdonalds to get something to eat for breakfast. my favorite for breakfast in their menu are burritos with hot sauce and with large ice coffee vanilla. i love their ice coffee. i wonder if starbucks have a better ice coffee than mcdonalds. although i know that i should not be always eating mcdonalds because it is not good for my health, i could not always stop myself from eating from mcdonalds because i have no other choice unless i eat or prepare my own food in my apartment before i go to work.

I think everyone goes through this once they start working full-time, they think I can do this and still have money. It didn't really bother me when I was single, it was just me and I was lucky to still be living at home, so the expenses weren't high. This was also 20+ years ago.
We treat ourselves maybe once a week out, either to the Chinese Buffett or a fast-food if we are out running errands.
The money does add up. We were living in a hotel for 4 months due to our home being destroyed thanks to a lovely toilet. Luckily the hotel provided a hot wonderful breakfast every day and dinner two nights a week. We did have a small kitchen but by the time we would buy all the little things and try to store it someplace, it was just easier to eat take out food. So since we have been back home, I have been trying really hard to make sure we eat all our meals here.
Now today the girls are home from school, so that means no work for me. We will run and grab a burger somewhere because they haven't been out to lunch for a long time.
My biggest downfall is Starbucks and their frozen drinks. Unfortunately, there is one in our Target store. My girls love them also so today they have a choice either lunch somewhere or they can have a frozen drink but not both.
I back my husband lunch every day and that saves a ton. He might once every two weeks treat himself to the sushi bar at the local market.
I take my lunch because I work at two different schools and sometimes I don't like the food they are serving. One school does take care of the adults and will give you a nice size portion, while the other school gives you a child size portion.
I always try to have yogurt and fruit stashed at home for a quick lunch if there are not leftovers from the night before.
You are on the right track of keeping tabs on how much you spend. At the end of the month you will be surprised how quickly it adds up. You could buy more food and healthier too to take along.
I even try to grab a water and drinks for the girls if we are running errands because stopping for drinks for the three us adds up to $5.00. Crazy but are society has gotten out of hand with this type of stuff just for convenience sake.

I usually buy fastfood items once or twice a week. Although not the Mcdonald type but rather the Chinese food type. Its actually a treat for the family since we really love the taste of Chinese food. I would have to agree that if I skip this part of the buying, I would be saving although not that much but it would really make an additional savings. However, we love the taste and we don't know how to cook such kind of food since each I believe have their own secret and special recipe. But actually we don't mind spending for this since it taste good and we consider it a treat for ourselves since we work day to day and at least its sort of a reward to enjoy the food, its like enjoying the fruits of labor.

i would like to eat out more often (lol) but we just cant afford it, not for a family of 4 and todays prices for just a single burger.
we order pizza about once a month and on average go to a fast food place for lunch or dinner maybe once every 2 months.
i would surely enjoy not having to cook and and clean up more often, but the prices are just too high, for the cost of one meal for 4 of us at a fast food place i can get enough groceries for at least two dinners!

I get take out about once a week, more often if I'm stressed. I try to get stuff from the 99 cent menu if I'm going to Burger King or McD's and don't get the drinks because that really adds up. We get pizza every two weeks - I love the good stuff and will get it if I have a coupon - otherwise we go to Little Caesar's (a chain) and get their $5.00 pizzas. And yes, I spend too much money and have been trying to keep good stuff already cooked in the fridge so I have something waiting to jump out of the fridge at me when I get home. Low fat healthy stuff if possible. whit

My husband and I make it a habit to spend at least once a week as treat to ourselves in a fast food chain or restaurant. It's our just-the-two-of-us event. And I always look forward to that day in the week. We always buy take out for the ones left at home, after the meal though. We do this as a sort-of reward to ourselves for the busy week at work.

i used to eat a lot of fast food, mostly just because i was lazy and it was easy to just go pick something to eat up real quick, i'd say that over the past year i average eating fast food maybe 1 or 2 times every 2 months, so it has definately slowed down.

Not so much on fast food, but moreso on impulse snacking! Money has been tight so eating fast food is not always an option here.

I try an stay away from fast food. Mainly to save money and because it just isnt very good for you. But i would say I eat fast food about 1-3 times a week.

Tend to have about one a week. But then again MacDonalds could be a cheap option depending on what you have, would say often have Domino's pizza and shocks me how a take away meal can cost
