How do these pop ups happen even when the pop up blocker is enabled?

I've been getting this same pop up all week that says System Status: Your urgent attention is required...and of course if I were to click on it I would end up on a site that wants me to buy or download a program. Not to mention the spam I would probably get from it. Even though it says "blocked" this stupid thing still gets through and I can't figure it out because I never get any other pop ups.
It's obviously an advertisement but how does it get through since nothing else ever does? Could my pc really have a problem and this thing is warning me?

I get the same thing all the time and I have a pop-up blocker too. I think we are probably getting the same one because it sure sounds like it. I am also wondering the same thing as you, am I having a problem and not be aware of it? Is this legit? Is it coming from microsoft? The main reason why I have responded to this discussion is because I want to see what others have to say to you on this subject, and since I am responding through my eamil I only get to see the responses once I have posted mine. So it will be interesting to read what others have to say about this.

The problem that your pc has is that you most likely have contracted an adware trojan or virus if I may. Your best bet is to run an antivirus program, and not the one they are trying to sell you. Kasperky (SP?) offers a free 30 day trial that works really well.

It is my belief that some of those pesky popups will manage to get through no matter how good your pop-up blocker is, ctry. If you use Firefox, they have a handy application that can handle this problem. It is called ADblock Plus. It sits in your browser where you can enable or disable it as you see fit. To get it just go to Mozilla Firefox Addons.

Get Adware 2007 and run a scan. Get AVG Antivirus 7.5 and run that scan to.
Delete cookies and temporary internet files along with this. If the scans come up with nothing, try restarting your computer and getting into safe mode. Should be F5, F6 or F8. Run the antivirus and antispyware scans in safe mode to get another file check without potential malware running.
You can also try Process Explorer to see what's really running on the computer.

The previous responses are good and you should heed them.
But also take note that there are certain typs of popups that they have yet to figure out how to block completely, and these are those flash media type. Those you usually can ignore or close the with the proper X.
